Figure 11.5 Cromer sea front in August 1941. In the foreground planks
have been removed from the pier to prevent it from being used as a landing
stage, with a temporary footbridge providing access to the lifeboat station at
its end. To the left of centre is a Type 22 pillbox camouflaged as an ice
cream stand. Above it on the walkway is an additional gun emplacement. A
second pillbox is built into the sea wall immediately to the right of the pier.

were camouflaged as haystacks (the haystack in the field behind is
