Roll-Top Desks and Fine Office Furniture
River Woodworking
As a second-generation wood craftsman,
Paul Yoder, along with his wife Ida, founded
River Woodworking in 2000. Having learned the art
of crafting fine quality, roll-top desks from his father,
Paul continued the family tradition designing and
building a full line of computer and standard roll top
and flat top desks along with other fine furniture
pieces to complement any home or office interior.
Today, River Woodworking offers over 30 styles of
desks and furnishings in both mission and classic
styling. Each piece is handcrafted from one-inch
solid hardwood in a variety of wood species. Quality
construction and finishing combined with a host of
extra features have placed River Woodworking at
the top of its class creating fine desks and furnishings
that will endure decades of service.
Table of Contents
Natural hardwood varies in its color and grain. These wood
characteristics give each piece of solid wood furniture its
unique charm, and, although the finishing processes are
identical, no two pieces will be exactly the same. River
Woodworking strives to bring out that natural beauty and
character in each desk it produces.
Because most hardwood is open grained, furniture made from
solid wood tends to expand and contract with changes in
humidity and temperature, even after protective finishes have
been applied. Care in controlling the furniture’s environment
should be exercised in order to minimize the minor cracking
and warping that is a natural part of the wood’s character.
Indoor humidity should be kept in the 35 to 40 percent range
to minimize these effects. Additionally, direct sunlight and
florescent fixtures that contain ultra-violet rays can cause
chemical changes in the wood and finish and should be
avoided. Furniture should also be kept away from direct
sources of heating and cooling and out of attic or
basement storing environments.
With proper care, solid wood furniture will provide a lifetime
of enjoyment and can be passed on to future generations.

Quality Construction
Drawers in all roll top and flat top desks are constructed
using dovetail joints for maximum strength. These joints are
glued, assembled and sanded for the most solid construction.
All River Woodworking desktops and cabinets
are constructed of one-inch solid hardwood
for years of durable service.
All roll-tops are constructed from a solid piece of wood to
maintain the consistent wood grain. Wood tops are slit to
provide flexibility and backed with webbing to provide
year of smooth operation.
