EDUCATION WEEK AT ASHTONFIELD
Last night I had the pleasure of attending the Education Week awards night. Not only did
it showcase the talent of our students but it also highlighted the wonderful work of our
teachers, non teaching staff, community members and school programs across the
region.

Caitlyn O’Brien (Student award) - Commitment and application to all aspects of
school at Ashtonfield PS
Mr Phil Cliff (Excellence in Teaching Award) - Commitment to Aboriginal education
across the school and the region.
Melinda Oke (Non Teaching Award) - Consistently displaying professionalism and
proficiency and ‘going above and beyond’ at school.
Lindy Tuck (Community Member Award) - Commitment to Ashtonfield Public
School
Cool Kids Program (School Achievement Award) - A social skills program aimed at
equipping students with the strategies and skills to minimise worries and anxieties,
accepted by Mrs Melissa McMellon.
Today we celebrated Education Week at Ashtonfield with classroom visits and activities,
a show case of our talented musicians, dancers and singers in the hall and a menu of
foods from across the world - pizzas, sushi, Indian foods, nachos and a sausage sizzle.
Thank you to the many parents, friends and family members who joined us for the day,
despite the wet weather.
SPORTING SUCCESS
Our cricket team was successful in the Reg Kelly Shield against Paterson Public School.
The boys basketball team won their second game at the Maitland Gala day against
Woodberry Pubic School. The girls team won the Maitland Gala day and will now
compete against the winning Newcastle team in the hope of progressing to the NSW
finals day.
ZONE ATHLETICS
Zone Athletics has been postponed until next Friday. The council has closed the grounds
due to the wet weather.
P&C MOVIE FUNDRAISER NIGHT will be held at Maitland Reading Cinema on
Thursday, 11th August, starting at 6pm for raffles and refreshments. Tickets cost $20
each and are available to purchase from the Uniform Shop and the school office.

WE ARE TAKING ENROLMENTS NOW FOR 2017 FOR STUDENTS LIVING IN THE ASHTONFIELD AREA.
Please contact the school office if you have a child starting school next year.
LET’S RUN NEWCASTLE Run Newcastle is back on Sunday, 7th August. And we want you to run, walk or roll
with us to raise much needed funds for the refurbishment of the Adolescent Ward at John Hunter Children’s Hospital. Run Newcastle is a one of a kind charity fun run that donates 100% of every registration fee. There is a 12km
run, a 6km run & walk and also a 1km Kids run so an event to suit the whole community. Ashtonfield Public School
has registered to participate. Go online to www.runaustralia.com.au to join a team.

CADBURY CHOCOLATES / NATURAL CONFECTIONERY LOLLIES FUNDRAISER BOXES are available to
pick up from the Uniform Shop on a Tuesday and Thursday morning for those parents who would like to sell to
family and friends.
Uniform Shop News
The Uniform Shop is now open Tuesdays, 8.30am—9am and 2.30pm—3pm and Thursdays, 8.30am—9am. We
are pleased to advise that EFTPos facilities are now available at the Uniform shop ONLY.
Canteen News
The canteen is open every Monday and Tuesday. However, this will
depend on the number of volunteers available. VOLUNTEERS ARE
NEEDED. As of Friday, 12th August the canteen will consider reopening each Friday if we have enough volunteers. If you are able to
assist please contact Tracy on 0411 184 571.
