FROM THE ACTIVITY DIRECTORS DESK
I hope you are all enjoying the summer and staying cool by the pool. And don’t forget to come and sign up
for the 4th of July picnic and parade. The parade will be down VORP Blvd and staging will be at the
clubhouse at 9:45am with the parade starting at 10:00am. So decorate your cars, bikes, dog carriages, golf
carts or anything you can push, pull or shove down the street to impress your neighbors with your patriotism.
And if you can’t participate, just bring your lawn chairs and come sit along the boulevard and watch.
Following the parade, there will be a picnic by the pool starting at 1:00pm. The cost is $8.00pp and includes
food and non-alcoholic beverages. Sign up with Fran in the clubhouse office by June 24.
And on Friday, August 5th, we’ll be travelling to Paris for a delightful evening in a quaint little bistro serving
wonderful French cuisine and superb French wines. The cost is a mere $50.0pp and you will have spectacular
views of the Eiffel Tower. Sign up now as this one is nearly full.
And guess what’s coming back this summer……..Beat the Heat 4-peat!!! Party starts at 6:00pm on Saturday,
August 20. Lorraine and Roy Morgal are hosting again and invite all those who have not flown the coup for
the summer to come to the clubhouse for a cool relaxing evening with DJ Roy. Cost is $5.00pp and Lorraine
wants you to bring your “best” homemade dish (You can tell Fran what that is when you sign up). Beer and
Wine are included.
Pickleball play will continue over the summer months. This is a great opportunity for anyone
interested in learning the game to join the group. If you have played before and want to improve your game
or if you have never played before, even with the Snowbirds gone there are still players at all skill levels who
would like to meet you. No equipment? No problem—extra paddles are available. Meet the group at the
courts any Tuesday or Thursday morning after 9:30 am.
The Royal Palm Sew and Sews fashioned several “fidget” items which were delivered to Brookdale. Residents
there use the quilts or muffs for stimulation. Brookdale’s activity director has a request for the group when
we resume activity in the fall. See you in September.
And if you want to stay cool—come to the Brown Bag Lunch on Tuesday, July 19 at Noon where Jack
Seaquist will take you on a Tour of Antarctica. Chilling!
The Astronomy course “Our Night Sky” continues Friday evenings from 7:00-8:00pm in July. July 8th will
cover Telescopes, Meteors, and Comets. July 22nd the topics will be the Northern Sky and the Fall Sky.
Please sign up on the Happenings board. Coffee and cookies will be provided.
There will be a slight increase in event pricing starting September. Please watch the August
newsletter for details.
