JULY 2016 Back-to-School! August 1 From The Supe’s Desk: Back to School Info! SEE INSIDE ➤ Summer is upon us and no sooner did we close out the 2015-16 school year, than we began a fast and furious effort to prepare for the 2016-17 school year. While the class of ‘16 will be missed, they leave behind a legacy of being the first class to lead the district’s 1:1 blended technology learning environment and were a big part of its success. With a full year of working in a blended learning environment under our belts, we can now focus on perfecting our trade as we continue to forge ahead and provide our students with a high quality 21st century learning environment. Let me segway into saying, many districts have struggled to find the resources that would enable them to provide students with robust engaging technology. As a district that was once in the middle of a financial crisis, we have risen like a phoenix from the ashes and are able to financially support this endeavor. Get Ready... School Begins Monday, August 1 The best thing about this is that we are doing so by not raising our bottom line. How you may ask? We have leveraged a variety of prudent business practices that have allowed our district to save money through such tactics as requiring vendors to competitively bid for our services. Furthermore, we are actively researching revenue producing opportunities that will in turn allow us to increase programming for our students. Are you new to Mt. Vernon Schools? Welcome!! Please fill out the enrollment form on www.mvcsc.k12.in.us, under the “Choose MV” tab. The in-district and out-ofdistrict enrollment forms are both available online. Bring the enrollment form and all information requested to the child’s intended school during summer hours or on a registration day. One such revenue producing venture will be the expansion of the “Mini-Marauder Preschool Early Learning Academy” that will be housed at the MVCSC Administrative Service Center. This program will not only provide revenue for the Special Registration Days are Offered: Mt. Vernon Middle School - July 25 & 26 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Mt. Vernon High School - July 19 & 26 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. SUPE’S DESK continued on page 2 BACK TO SCHOOL continued on page 2 “Engage, Educate & Empower Today’s Students” Facebook.com/MtVernonSchoolDistrict | Twitter.com/MVCSC_District www.mvcsc.k12.in.us | 1806 W. State Rd 234, Fortville, IN 46040 Back to School!!! School Begins Monday, August 1 Returning Students: Parents of students returning to Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation (MVCSC) should expect an email announcing the dates to register, verify and update student, family, emergency and Skylert information through their Skyward family access account (not student access account). New for 2016-2017! Once students are registered in Skyward, all MVCSC students will receive Hancock County Library cards. The Hancock County Library cards will be used as an online educational tool in the classroom setting. School Bus Transportation On the first day of school, students should be ready for their bus at least one hour before school starts. Approximate pick-up times will be set within a few days of the start of school and will be posted on the MVCSC Transportation Department website page by July 27. School Office Summer Hours: All elementary schools’ front offices will be open from 7 a.m. 3 p.m. from July 25-29. Mt. Vernon Middle School will be open from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. July 21 - 29. Mt. Vernon High School will be open all summer Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. The Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation Administrative Service Center will be open throughout the summer, Monday Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Supe’s Desk continued district, but it will also provide early literacy and preschool opportunities for parents at a reasonable rate. These initiatives, as well as our increased enrollment, have allowed our district to be the first one in the state of Indiana to make the decision to not collect our third and final year of the General Fund Operating Referendum. We are excited for what the future has in store for our school district and are cognizant to the fact that none of this could be accomplished without the support of our community. With that “Engage, Educate & Empower Today’s Students” Up To Date Immunizations School begins August 1, are your child’s immunizations upto-date? Indiana law requires each child enrolled in school to be completely immunized against communicable diseases. For students new to the school system - including kindergartners this record must be on file before the child can attend classes. Please refer to the Health Services Department website page for immunization details, including the new requirements for continued said, I would like to end by saying I hope that you have a safe and happy summer. As always, from the students and staff of the Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation, we thank you for your ongoing belief and support. Shane Dr. W. Shane Robbins, ATC, LAT Superintendent of Schools @Dr_ShaneRobbins New for 2016-2017! Once students are registered in Skyward, all MVCSC students will receive Hancock County Library cards. Paying Textbook/Device Rental Fees Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation is a 1:1 Technology district, which means every K-5 student has an iPad and grades 6-12 have a Google Chromebook. The device rental fees replaced the former textbook rental fees and cover the entire year. Parents will receive device rental fee information by mid-July. Middle School and High School students may have additional class fees for specific courses. Fees are due at the beginning of the school year after the invoice is posted in the Skyward accounts. Payments can be made by cash, check, Visa or Mastercard. Parents will have the opportunity to purchase insurance for the device. Information will be distributed at the beginning of the school year. For further device questions, please see the “1:1 Technology” tab on www.mvcsc.k12.in.us. To apply for book rental assistance, mark the appropriate box on the school meal assistance application at www.schoollunchapp.com.
