Pro bono and Community
Allen & Overy is very active in pro bono both globally and here in Australia. In
Australia, we have established A&O Communitas, which is a committee comprised
of staff who are dedicated to community volunteering and building our pro bono
practice. Currently we support Opportunity International Australia, an innovative
organisation that uses microfinance technology to combat poverty in the most
disadvantaged regions of Indonesia.
Globally, the firm has been working with AfriKids in support of its work with
children in Northern Ghana. The AfriKids programs that are supported by Allen &
Overy have taken hundreds of children off the street and developed education
programs that have reached many more.
Your summer clerk experience
As a Summer Clerk, you will be exposed to premium quality domestic and
international work from day one and will also participate in various exercises that
simulate real transactions from beginning to end, providing a valuable insight into
the role of an Allen & Overy lawyer.
During your rotation you will be supervised by a partner and work closely with
other senior associates and lawyers who are part of that team. You will work on
current matters and be encouraged to get involved in all elements of the deal.
Feedback will be provided to all clerks and informal feedback is provided
throughout the clerkship period to help you to progress and enhance your skills as
a junior lawyer.
As well as the practical element to the clerkship, you will also be encouraged to
participate in firm related activities, including our firm Christmas Party and other
events that have ‘getting to know more about us’ in mind.

taken over summer, however none are taken in winter.
Casual Employment

Clerkship Program
We recruit most of our graduates through our clerkship programs – a great way for

Perth, we run three clerkships each year, two in summer and one in winter.

During your law graduate and restricted practice years, you will rotate through
approximately three of our main practice areas. Each rotation, usually eight
months in duration, will allow you to gain skills and experience in the practice of a
