Orland Park Public Library is
embracing the next generation
of technology with new additions
to the SMART Lab like the
Makerbot 3D printer, VHS to
DVD converter, an SLR camera
capable of filming in HD, and four
additional computers that include
Adobe Creative Cloud suite,
3D modeling software, video
editing software, faster Intel
core processors, and powerful
graphics cards.
Video editing is aided by a
green screen, lighting kit, and
professional grade microphones
added for special effects and
voice-over recording.

iMACs, and two are Dells, giving
the community the ability to gain

Friends of the Library
The Friends of the Orland Park Public Library presented
Library Director Mary Weimar with a check for $7,000 at
the opening of the Kurt Vonnegut exhibit.
The Friends maintain Recycled Reads, an everchanging selection of used books, DVDs, CDs, and
video games available for purchase, located in the
northwest corner of the lobby.
The proceeds from the sale of these gently-used
items are donated to the library for a wide variety
of programming.

Orland Park Public Library’s paver program
gives everyone a chance to add a part
of themselves to the building. A $75 gift
entitles supporters to a 4” x 8” paver with
three lines for personalization. A gift of
$150 entitles supporters to an 8” x 8” paver
with five lines for personalization. Spring
orders will be placed in late May. For more

the Civil War as care providers and how their work challenged
the preconceived notions during the American Civil War.

Forgotten Soldiers:
Health Care for the Colored Troops during the Civil War

The 180,000 African American soldiers who enlisted beginning
in 1862 faced degrading inequalities and a lack of proper
medical treatment. A shortage of doctors exacerbated an
already intolerable situation for these dedicated soldiers.

Celebrate National Library Week April 10–16. We planned
special programs for adults like Ann Stokes: African
American Civil War Nurse on Tuesday, April 12 at 7 p.m.
and Showcase: Adam Miller on Friday, April 15 at 7 p.m.

Bright Starts: Earth Day storytime. Take time during this

Spotlight on Databases
NoveList Plus
Many of us know a staff member at the library who can always recommend
a great book. But, what do you do when they’re not around? NoveList Plus
offers custom recommendations based on your reading appeal. Simply
complete the “Appeal Mix” form found in the database’s orange ribbon under
‘browse by’. A custom list of titles will be created for you. The titles generated
by your search have brief explanations of why they were recommended.
You can also search for series books in order, or simply by your favorite
genre. Try it out today. Need help? Staff at the reference desk would be
happy to assist you.
