Foster and Adoptive Parent Association of Lane County
September 2010
Hello All,
I can hear the school bells a ringing! I hope that each of you are prepared for
the school year to begin. If you receive a child into your home in the next 2
weeks, give me a call and I will get a backpack full of school supplies to you as
soon as possible. We still have extra backpacks, so just let me know. A HUGE
thanks to Junior League of Eugene and Sleep Country for supporting our
children with supplies and backpacks. We appreciate you from the bottom of
our hearts! (Love you Whitney!!!)
September brings in another school year and learning new things. Well FAAPA
has the class for you! Our monthly meeting this month is on new regulations
that have changed drastically in the last 2 years. If you haven't been to the
core classes in the last 2 years, you are probably not aware of some of the huge
changes. We have seen a lot of homes getting into really hard places due to
just not knowing. Our own Tricia Brown is going to be our DHS lady of the
night. Details here in this Newsletter... (Sept 20th, 7pm. Child care provided
and doors open at 6:30). Hope to see you there!!
As our very short summer comes to an end, try to sneak in those moments that
we will remember for a lifetime. Lie outside on a blanket with your child on a
clear night and watch for shooting stars. Such a beautiful site! If you are in
need of any support please feel free to contact me at any time!
Proud to be your President,
Tammy Hadley

FAAPA and Bags of Love are teaming up to support Foster Parents and the children
that come into care by getting you the Bags of Love faster!
If you receive a child into care just give us a call and we will get the bag to you.
The bag is full of emergent items that will assist in taking care of your kiddo during the first 48
hours. It has things like a quilt, pj's, a few diapers, toys, toiletries, books etc. No bag is the
same and every bag differs due to the donations they receive.
We look forward to supporting you and getting the bags to you! Call Tammy Hadley,
(541) 729-6309 or Brigette Sherman (623)204-3654
as soon as you are notified of the new child.

GOODWILL VOUCHER PROGRAM TO BENEFIT DHS FOSTER FAMILIES
Goodwill has once again come through to help foster parents through its Good Samaritan Program. Here's
how it works:
Drop off your used-goods donations at any Goodwill Industries of Lane and South Coast County's Donation
Centers. Tell the attendant how much the donation weighs and that the donation is designated for the "DHS
Foster Care Program." You will receive a receipt for tax purposes. Your donation will be recorded and sent to
the Goodwill administration office. Donations can be gently used items such as clothing, shoes, housewares,
dishes, utensils, books or small electrical items. (Furniture and large items are not included.)
For every 200 pounds of donations dropped off at Goodwill Industries of Lane and South Coast County's
Donation Centers, a $10.00 voucher will be issued to DHS. Foster parents can request vouchers by calling
their certifier. They will be issued on the basis of economic need and are to be used for items for foster
children. If you have questions, please call Ashley Herbert at 726-6644 x 2238.
PHONE NUMBERS
Remember it is policy to notify your certifier if you change your phone number - we need to know how to
contact you! If you have multiple cell phones, tell us those too!
HARD TO PLACE SUPPORT GROUP
Due to lack of enough attendees to keep this support group open that was meeting every 3rd Thursday at the
1899 Willamette office from 6-8 p.m. will no longer be meeting.
An announcement in the newsletter will be made in the event a new group in future should be opened up to
support families who are struggling with challenging behaviors and or difficult situations.
It is recommended that you approach your certifier about valuable trainings offered in the community to help
offer tools to assist foster parents and or look into already existing support groups for foster parents in the
community that are mentioned in the newsletter.
Check out our updated website!

WE NEED YOUR EMAIL ADDRESSES! Email [email protected] or visit the
