WMF History – Life tastes great. Since 1853.
WMF was founded in 1853 in Geislingen, Southern Germany. From an initial workforce of 16 employees, WMF
now has more than 6,000 employees globally who are dedicated in enabling the emotional connection between
WMF and households all over the world. The WMF brand stands for competence of the highest degree, evident
in high quality cutlery, tableware, cookware, knives, kitchen helpers and both residential and commercial coffee
machines. For 160 years, the WMF brand has also been – and still is – known worldwide for its zest and passion,

Knives
Forging – a craft with tradition.
Knives rank among man’s oldest hand crafted objects. The knife has always been an implement, a tool, a household
utensil and a weapon. In the 18th century it developed into the most important piece of cutlery and was elevated to
an object of decoration and art. Quality knives have been forged since the early Middle Ages. WMF is part of this handicraft tradition and applies particular care. In WMF’s own blade forge the blades, made of special blade steel, are
worked over the whole
length with the forging hammer, ground several times and polished until they have a perfectly smooth surface. Despite modern technology a great deal of handcrafting with over 30 manufacturing steps are necessary for this. Lastly
each step is checked using laser technology. This results in blades that are perfectly sharp and that stay therefore
sharp for a long time.
