Puja Brochure 2015 - BASC - Bengali Association of Southern
From President’s Desk
Dear Friends,
With great pleasure, we welcome you to the BASC
Durga Puja 2015.
community. We would request all parents to
encourage their kids in doing so.
As an organization BASC has evolved over the past
few decades into one of the largest association of
Bengalis in this part of the world. Today the
organization is founded on a great platform on which
the current and future committee can build on.
However this did not happen overnight. It took a lot of
time, effort and sacrifice on part of many individuals,
groups and committee to get the organization to this
point. The current committee sincerely appreciates
their sacrifices and will make every attempt to
recognize them.
Now some exciting news regarding the present. This
year we got a fantastic facility which includes a great
place for worship, a nice cafeteria and a state of the
art auditorium and we are all very excited about the
venue. The theme of this year's Puja is Kolkata, our
city of joy. A conscious effort has been made to
create fond memories of our beloved city to give you
an ambience which would make you reminiscent of
good old Kolkata days. We sincerely hope you will
enjoy the experience.
Equally important from the organization standpoint is
the involvement of the youth and kids in BASC. You
are going to see more and more of these youngsters
volunteering in BASC activities and serving the
Last but not the least, BASC is like a home away
from home for all of us. With that spirit in mind, let
us set aside the differences and let us all celebrate
the Puja as one single family, the "BASC Family".
Saikat Chakraborty, President
On behalf of Team BASC

BASC Felicitations
Every year BASC thank and congratulate those individuals who have
gone above and beyond their duties. This year we recognize ..
Prabir Bakshi
Prabir Bakshi has been one of the biggest sponsors for BASC for years and has always
supported the organization. We are honored and privileged to felicitate him this year, a small
token of appreciation for always being there for us.
Tara Mitra, Makhan Ray, Jyotishko Ganguly, Rathin Bose, Sandip Sengupta,
Mitra Nag, and Prabir Bhattacharya.
Starting in the early 1980s and until the late 1990s when the BASC fund collections were low,
cooking food two times a day in the rented site's kitchen during the annual Durga Puja,
Saraswati Puja and Lakshmi Puja was a must. During these first two decades of BASC's past,
there was not enough donation related funds available to have food catered for the three-day
celebration or even the one day events. Planning, buying all of the necessary groceries, besides
tasks such as preparing fresh "kasundi", soaking the "posto" in water etc began long before the
Friday when Mother Durga's worship began. It was a highly joyous and collective effort in which
few of our own members participated. Some of these long term and veteran BASC members are
being recognized this year with a BASC plaque for their backbreaking hard work and dedication
year after year for over twenty years.

Prasun Dutta, a promising young photographer from Kolkata, has graciously contributed the photo of a
historic mansion in Kolkata for its use as the backdrop of this year's Durga Protima. Prasun sent the
following note conveying his best wishes for BASC.
I am Prasun Dutta (Dweep) from Kolkata, India, and I work as a Sr. Web Developer in a
IT Company (Indus Net Technologies Pvt. Ltd.). Photography is my passion. From my
childhood I love to click whatever I see. Also I am a big "Foodie" and love to travel,
explore new places and eat new food. Besides photography, I usually write reviews for
Food & Travel websites. I am also a member of two leading photgraphy associations.
Previously my photography was
published in an Indian travel magazine. I love to
participate in & organize events and social activities, too.
Thanks “Bengali Association of Southern California (BASC)” for choosing my photography
for this auspicious occasion of Durga Puja. Though I am far away from your place, my
best wishes are always with your association. I hope one day I will get a chance to be a
part of this association.
Wish you a very happy puja.
Thanks & Regards,
