SALES FUN DAY
MAY 5, 2015
Teamwork Garners $900K in Revenue
for Sales FUN Day
Basketball great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has a philosophy when it
comes to teamwork. He said, “Five guys on the court working
together can achieve more than five talented individuals who come
and go as individuals.”
Our corporate and franchise Motel 6/Studio 6 teams used a full-court
press during this spring’s Sales FUN Day on April 22. We studied our
selling playbooks, stretched to reach those potential customers and
slam-dunked on the sale. We may be good at selling individually, but
what a difference it makes when we team up and show everyone
why Motel 6/Studio 6 is the best.
In one day, we made nearly 7,000 points of contacts and converted
15 percent of those into room sales right away. All of this equates to
over $900,000 in revenue!
Joe Christie, Vice President—sales, couldn’t be more pleased with
the work of the team members at our properties, both corporateowned and franchise, as well as the regional staff and sales teams to
achieve these results. “Thanks to all our participants who took 100%
Responsibility and made this a great Sales FUN Day,” he said. “It
was an outstanding effort all across the enterprise. We can do great
things when we are actively engaged and focused on success.”
This special edition of the 6-Pack highlights how our team members
carried out one of our best Sales FUN Days ever. Take a look at how
we prepared and made the sale. Let’s keep the momentum going —
our fall Sales FUN Day is just around the corner!
G6 Communications Department
GM Toya Jackson used her Sales FUN
Day goody bags to showcase how petfriendly Motel 6 is. Her team at East
Peoria, Ill., #80, took animal figurines
from a dollar store and attached a Motel
6 logo to include in their gift bags.
GM
Hitesh Patel at
Albany, N.Y., #4466,
teamed up with National
Sales
Director
Ted
Scales to visit a local
foundry involved in an
$8.5 billion construction
project. They scheduled a
site visit for the company
managers who will need
lodging for up to five
years until the project is
completed. This is just
one example of the great
teamwork involving our
Sales
team
and
a
franchise property.

Revenue Manager? How can a G6 revenue manager (RM)
help me sell my property? GM Ron Bissell at Hagerstown,
Md., #1259 discovered that by leveraging a visit from RM
Lisa Morakabian he was able to better understand how
revenue management directly correlates to sales and
revenue performance at his property.

Your RM is available to assist you with negotiating rates with
local companies. Additionally, a visit to your property helps
your RM understand your property features, the marketplace
and the competition to ensure your motel is priced correctly.
Contact your RM or Director of Operations to make sure you
use all of the resources available to you to improve your
sales and revenue performance.

GM Janneth Salinas at Madison,

promote her renovated property with
fliers of her rooms. She visited a
bridal store knowing that summer
weddings meant many out of town
guests will need lodging. After that
stop, she headed to several banks.
They have customers who come in
from out of town to do their banking
transactions and need overnight
accommodations. The tellers and
bankers can direct them to Janneth’s
property. At every stop her contacts
were surprised with the look of the
new rooms, the nice TV’s and the
beautiful beds.

More Sales FUN Day Successes
Selling Success in Region 4, Area 8
GM Katie Schwarz at Odessa, Texas, #439, is
getting new business from a casing company not
only because we have better rates, but also because
of meeting and getting to know Katie face-to-face on
Sales FUN Day. Additionally, she booked 14 rooms
for three nights for a new guest. She sent in a Sold
on Six form and is working with our sales team to
setup a CorporatePlus account for them.
Even on Sales FUN Day, our Motel 6 Heart for Service shines
through. Left to right: GM Gloria Purdy, #1290, GM Betty
Lindsey #741 and GM Tracey Lemieux present a guest
certificate to the local YMCA on one of their sales calls.
Latonia Almeida, GM at San Antonio, Texas, #651,
anticipates additional business after sharing that we
are a pet-friendly motel. Plus, she learned a local
fast food establishment has out-of-town trainees and
is committed to getting their business.
Laredo, Texas, #1107, is now on the preferred list of
motels at a local funeral home after a sales call by
GM Patricia Sifuentes-Hernandez.
What’s in a Sales Call?
GM Norman Scott and MOD
Roxanne Claussen took advantage
of one of their sales calls to stop by
a local truck driving training school
that has been sending their trainees
to Motel 6 but had never met any of
our team members. Our team
members showed their Heart for
Service by thanking this business
for their continued business.
