August 2016
Dear Friends,
Welcome to GreekFest 2016! We of Holy Trinity Church are thrilled to
have you join us for our annual celebration, enabling us to share our
beautiful Greek culture and our ancient Orthodox Christian Faith. This is
a touch of Greece while remaining in Carmel, Indiana!
Marika Bagios leads our great team of volunteers who are eager to
make your visit with us fun and memorable! This taste of Greece can
be enjoyed with our delicious food, happy music, and Greek Dancers.
Please include a tour of our beautiful Church with the magnificent
iconography which is so unique to the Orthodox Church. The icons
enhance the splendor of our Church, teach us Scripture, provide an
example for us to emulate in our own life, and serves a means for us to
worship the Lord God.
The Orthodox Christian Church depicts the three persons of the Holy
Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) with the three individuals who visit
Abraham at the Oak of Memre (Genesis 18). The large icon depicts
the hospitality of Abraham to these three individuals. As Orthodox
Christians of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, we seek to emulate
this hospitality, welcome you, celebrate our Christian hospitality, and
thank you for your joining us.
May God bless you and your loved ones,
Father William J. Bartz

LETTER FROM GREEKFEST 2016 PRESIDENT
August 26, 2016
Dear GreekFest Friends,
Greeks embrace a longstanding tradition of family,
friends and community
celebrations. As one of our
15,000+ guests, we welcome
your family to ours in this 43rd year of sharing our
Orthodox faith and Hellenic culture.
GREEKFEST 2016 CO-CHAIR OFFICERS
For the younger family members, we have
added “Bounce House City” to the puppet show
and various children’s activities available in the
Children’s Tent.
GreekFest 2016 is hosted by the Holy Trinity Greek
Orthodox Church parishioners who dedicate their
time and talents throughout the year to present
what has become one of Central Indiana’s
favorite food and cultural events. Without these
hard working volunteers, there is no GreekFest.
As family, we ask you to enjoy the food, music,
dance and hospitality of our festival by strolling
through the Food Court and Bakery, treating
yourself to authentic Greek food and pastries,
shopping the Grecian Grocery and Marketplace
for those one-of-a-kind treasures, or swinging
by the Beer and Wine tent to sip the varieties
of Grecian Wines and local craft beers. Should
you relish what you sample, catch a cooking
demonstration to learn how to make exquisite
Greek delicacies at home.
A special thanks to the festival co-chairs, Mike
Hendricks, Anthony Filis and Steve Young, the
individual booth chairs, our numerous volunteers,
all the local sponsors and partners and our entire
Parish family for their dedication and support.
After your culinary journey, take a tour of
our beautiful Church with her hand painted
iconography and newly installed tile floors.
Marika Kalyvas Bagios
GreekFest 2016, President

CHURCH TOURS
Throughout the ages, the Greek Orthodox Christian
Church has maintained a continuity of faith and love
with the Apostolic community which was founded
by Jesus Christ and sustained by the Holy Spirit.
Orthodox Christianity offers a fullness of the Faith that

God is the source of faith in the Orthodox Church.
Orthodox Christianity believes that God has
revealed Himself to us humans, most especially in
the revelation of Jesus Christ, Whom we know as
the Son of God. This Revelation of God, of His love,
and of His purpose is constantly made manifest and
contemporary in the life of the Church.
We offer you an opportunity to learn more
about our Church during your visit to our Festival.
Participate in a scheduled tour which will be
offered throughout the day.

ORTHODOX CHRISTIANITY
The Greek Orthodox Church is the One, Holy,
Catholic & Apostolic Church of Christ that was
founded by His Apostles on the original Sunday of
Pentecost in approximately 33 A.D. For almost 2000
years the Church has observed the Canons of the
Seven Ecumenical Councils and Holy Tradition of the
Christian Faith. We are a Trinitarian Church centered
on the seven sacraments of Baptism, Chrismation
(Confirmation), The Holy Eucharist, Confession, Holy
Unction, Marriage and Ordination. Our priesthood
is based on Apostolic Succession. The Virgin Mary
(Theotokos) and the Saints are venerated — not
worshipped — as part of the Church Triumphant
and we ask for their prayers and intercessions before
Christ’s Throne.
Next to Roman Catholic, Greek Orthodoxy is the
second largest Christian Church in the world —
encompassing four of the five ancient Christian
Churches of Constantinople, Alexandria (Egypt),
Antioch (Syria) & Jerusalem. Orthodoxy was
originally found in Eastern Europe, Russia and the
Middle East. Today Orthodoxy has a worldwide
reach, with national Churches located on every
continent and in almost every nation.
Leader of Orthodoxy — “first amongst equals”
among Orthodox leaders — is Ecumenical Patriarch
Bartholomew I of Constantinople. Orthodoxy
throughout the world shares in the same dogma,
traditions and worship. However, the Church in every
nation is autonomous in such local matters as finances,
language, administration, schools & philanthropy.
Holy Trinity of Indianapolis was founded in 1910. For
many years the congregation worshipped on West
Street at the current site of the Indiana Historical Society.
It moved to 40th & Pennsylvania Street in 1960 and
added on its Cultural Center and classrooms in 1982.
In 1998, due to continued growth and the northward
migration of its flock, Holy Trinity purchased 20 acres
at 106th and Shelborne Road in Carmel. In 2007,
construction began on Holy Trinity’s new church
and facilities. On Christmas Eve, 2008, Holy Trinity
parishioners began worshipping in their new church.
