We’ve given ourselves a makeover. After 15 years, we
wanted a fresh look that better conveyed our services,
our partners, and our mission.
New look. Same mission.
We sought a new approach to all of the ways we reach our
clients. It wasn’t about changing who CDS was, or how we
operated; it was about clearly communicating our services
and our capabilities, so that people who might need us knew
where they could find us. We will be unveiling new signage
and material, including a new website and brochures.
Our new logo.
We started with a logo that evolved our look and
feel. We did not change the original brand colors, but
we did tweak them, using less true “primary” colors in
favor of richer, softer shades that were easier on the eye,
and more calming. Bright, bold colors can affect both
children and adults (especially those with autism), so we
were careful to choose hues that were more soothing.
The child is reaching towards several stars that are
both inside and outside of the square. This design
has a dual purpose: it conveys our dedication to
the support of our young patients, as well as their
ability to receive services both inside and outside
our building.

What an amazing time to be part of CDS! This year, CDS will celebrate our 15th
anniversary. That’s fifteen years of reaching milestones, and fifteen years of hope for
our families. It’s been a privilege to be part of this organization over the past few years,
and I’m excited to be leading the board in 2015. But before we look too far into what’s
ahead, I want to share some of our recent accomplishments.
In 2014, CDS served 5,700 children with developmental delays and disabilities through
our partners, programs and services. If you count all the times each child had an
appointment, evaluation or therapy session, it would total over 30,000 visits just last
year alone. That’s a lot of little feet through our lobby, and lots of smiling faces. In
addition, we had over 200 volunteers in the community donate 631 hours of service.
We are so appreciative of the community’s involvement, as those hours translate into
dollars saved.
We enjoyed several new events throughout the year, like our first hockey night with
the Greenville Road Warriors. SANDLAPPER Securities hosted a benefit concert
featuring John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band. We began a nutrition series for
our Hispanic families in conjunction with Clemson University. Lastly, CDS welcomed
Dana McConnell as our new Executive Director.
In 2015, we look to expand our outreach efforts by redesigning our website, creating
new resource materials, and increasing our use of social media. We are launching a
new logo as well, which will better reflect our mission to those needing services. We
have also planned more educational opportunities for our families, such as a family
resource night and car seat checks. But some of our programs won’t be new. Our
families will again enjoy the entertaining and enrichment activities that make CDS
unique, such as our Halloween event, the visit from Santa, arts and crafts, and concerts
in the lobby.
CDS continues to be that “place” in the community for so many services and programs
our families need. After fifteen years in operation, it’s a testament to the teamwork
of our partners, the CDS staff, our board members and the community. To all of our
corporate sponsors, grantors, United Way participants and individual donors, thank
you for your support and generosity.
You have made a difference, and we are truly grateful.
With appreciation,

We asked Linda Johnson to tell her story about
experiencing CDS with her daughter, Hannah. Hannah was born at 5 ½ pounds, quite a bit smaller than
her older sister, Olivia, was two years earlier. Little did we know
that she would be an awesome challenge, and would provide
a lifetime of special blessings. After 8 weeks, Hannah only
gained 1 pound. Five weeks later, we began seeing a feeding
specialist, and within the hour, we were at the hospital for what
turned into a 10-day stay.
Her diagnosis was confirmed as Prader-Willi syndrome. After a
2-hour meeting with the doctor and the genetic counselor, we
felt numb, scared, and shocked. During the process of applying
for medical waivers, we learned about CDS and began her
physical therapy with Kidnetics, a CDS partner. Hannah’s
physical therapy taught her to roll over and strengthen
her neck muscles. At eight months, we enrolled her in the
Wonder Center, a day care for medically fragile children, also
at CDS. With the therapists right in the building to come
and get her for all three of her therapies, and the amazing
nurses in the Wonder Center to duplicate their efforts while
they were caring for her, Hannah quickly began to thrive.
Hannah is now 8 years old and in a typical classroom in
2nd grade at Oakview Elementary. She graduated from
speech therapy in December, and we couldn’t be more
proud of her. She has resource for one period every day
and loves school. She has a lot of friends, and is doing
very, very well in all aspects.
We certainly had no idea what to expect when she was
first diagnosed, but we know for sure that the the early
intervention with BabyNet, Kidnetics, Developmental
Pediatrics, the Wonder Center, and now with the
Greenville County School District, has helped her to
become the very best she can be. There will always
be unknown aspects with her diagnosis, but we are
hopeful that ongoing research will lead us to a cure.

Our ambitious mission wouldn’t be possible without the efforts of our incredible

The road ahead has never been more
exciting. CDS has a number of incredible
initiatives planned for 2015, including:
Enhancing the family experience.
We will be offering more connections to
resources through referrals, health fairs,
and social media. We are planning more
educational seminars in health & nutrition.
Additionally, we will be expanding our
outreach and services in the community to
be a benefit bank and car seat check site.
Celebrating our 15th birthday!
We will be unveiling a whole new look for
CDS, including a new logo and indoor/
outdoor signage. We will have new
landscaping as well as a new mural on
the Hampton Ave. side of the building.
Finally, we will be adding additional
security cameras to the facility for
increased peace of mind for our
patients and staff. Be sure to check in
with everyone at CDS throughout
the year to find out more about
upcoming events, milestones, and
much more.
We can’t wait
to get started!
