Chicago Outskirts The Chicago Outskirts is a seventeen-piece jazz ensemble founded in 2003 and comprised entirely of women from across the Chicago area. The members come from as far west as Aurora and as far east as South Bend, IN. Most of the members play in other jazz groups in the area. The idea for the band was born when two of the members met at FitzGerald's Night Club in Berwyn in March of 2003. Jenny Yuhasz, a drummer from South Bend, was there to see her brother, trumpeter Danny Barber, play with the Chicago Jazz Orchestra. Jenny sat in for a few numbers with the CJO. Linda Kottis, a tenor sax player from Naperville, was in the audience that night and began comparing notes with Jenny. They decided that an all-female big band would be a great idea. The main purpose of forming the band was to give women jazz musicians in the area more opportunity to play big band jazz, both in rehearsal and in performance. Visit the band’s website at www.ChicagoOutskirts.com. Program subject to change without notice Meetings start at 7:00 pm. every Thursday in the Cottage (function room) at Irish Times, 8869 Burlington Avenue, Brookfield (by Brookfield Metra Station). If interested, you will be bidding on the band to play for a maximum of two hours at your private party or event in the Chicagoland area. If you are the winning bidder, you will have six months to liaise with the band and fix a mutually agreeable place, date and time for their performance. The Joel Moore Quartet The Joel Moore Quartet has twice appeared at the Brookfield Jazz Society and is an exciting band that features the leader on saxophone and a piano/ bass/drums rhythm section. The quartet was formed in 2005 and is dedicated to the performance of creative, original contemporary jazz compositions and inventive interpretations of standards. Check out Joel’s website at www.JoelMooreQuartet.com. Marbin Marbin started their musical journey back in 2007 when saxophonist Danny Markovitch and guitar wizard Dani Rabin met and formed the band back then in Israel. It wasn’t long before they decided to relocate in Chicago, where they launched their first album that same year, in 2009. The self titled album became very quickly “the talk of the town”, receiving praise from an array of well respected publications. Soon after, Markovitch and Rabin found themselves collaborating with Paul Wertico, the seven time Grammy Award winner on his critically acclaimed album “Impressions of a City,” which received 4.5 stars from Downbeat magazine. Marbin’s music is unique and difficult to categorize - being more in the jazz-rock style, than straight ahead jazz. Thinking About Adopting an Animal?
