The Brookfield Jazz Society (BJS) welcomes you to Sawa’s Old Warsaw for the Kool Kats and Jazzy Hounds Benefit.
There is non-stop jazz from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. featuring seven different bands. All of the money raised today will go

animals until they are adopted.
Personally, I would like to thank all the musicians playing today who have generously given up their time and
talents to entertain us. Without them there would be no event. I’d also like to thank the BJS and AAS volunteers
who will be working throughout the day. A final word of thanks also goes to all those people who kindly donated
silent auction items and raffle prizes.
On a final note, I would like to thank the other members of the BJS Charity Team, who have worked tirelessly for
the last three months to make this event happen: Lee Goode, Perry Huntoon, Marc aka Network XXIII and a
special thank you to Anderson Animal Shelter volunteer Amanda Seidel.

Chicago Outskirts
The Chicago Outskirts is a seventeen-piece jazz ensemble founded in 2003 and comprised entirely of women from
across the Chicago area. The members come from as far west as
Aurora and as far east as South Bend, IN. Most of the members
play in other jazz groups in the area.
The idea for the band was born when two of the members met at
FitzGerald's Night Club in Berwyn in March of 2003. Jenny Yuhasz,
a drummer from South Bend, was there to see her brother,
trumpeter Danny Barber, play with the Chicago Jazz Orchestra.
Jenny sat in for a few numbers with the CJO. Linda Kottis, a tenor
sax player from Naperville, was in the audience that night and began
comparing notes with Jenny. They decided that an all-female big band would be a great idea.
The main purpose of forming the band was to give women jazz musicians in the area more opportunity to play big
band jazz, both in rehearsal and in performance. Visit the band’s website at www.ChicagoOutskirts.com.
Program subject to change without notice
Meetings start at 7:00 pm. every Thursday in the Cottage (function room) at
Irish Times, 8869 Burlington Avenue, Brookfield (by Brookfield Metra Station).
Additional parking is available behind Irish Times in the Municipal Parking lot.

About the Jazz Bands in The Silent Auction
These two bands have donated their services as silent auction items. If interested, you will be bidding
on the band to play for a maximum of two hours at your private party or event in the Chicagoland
area. If you are the winning bidder, you will have six months to liaise with the band and fix a
mutually agreeable place, date and time for their performance.
The Joel Moore Quartet
The Joel Moore Quartet has twice appeared at the Brookfield Jazz Society
and is an exciting band that features the leader on saxophone and a piano/
bass/drums rhythm section. The quartet was formed in 2005 and is
dedicated to the performance of creative, original contemporary jazz
compositions and inventive interpretations of standards. Check out Joel’s
website at www.JoelMooreQuartet.com.
Marbin
Marbin started their musical journey back in 2007 when saxophonist Danny
Markovitch and guitar wizard Dani Rabin met and formed the band back then
in Israel. It wasn’t long before they decided to relocate in Chicago, where they
launched their first album that same year, in 2009. The self titled album
became very quickly “the talk of the town”, receiving praise from an array of
well respected publications.
Soon after, Markovitch and Rabin found themselves collaborating with Paul
Wertico, the seven time Grammy Award winner on his critically acclaimed
album “Impressions of a City,” which received 4.5 stars from Downbeat magazine. Marbin’s music is
unique and difficult to categorize - being more in the jazz-rock style, than straight ahead jazz.

Over the years the shelter has transitioned from a traditional community animal shelter to one of the most progressive humane societies of its kind. In 2001 an on-site veterinary clinic was added to provide health care for
shelter animals and to assist in the goal of spaying/neutering all adopted dogs and cats before they leave the
shelter. In 2003 the shelter opened a public low-cost spay/neuter and vaccination clinic. The shelter operates
under a low-kill philosophy and is dedicated to eliminating the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable animals. Every
adoptable animal at the shelter is cared for as long as it takes to locate a loving forever home.
Anderson Animal Shelter currently serves approximately 2,550 animals each year. They collaborate with public and private organizations and individuals to shelter, care for and promote the adoption of stray and unwanted companion animals. They advocate for the compassionate and humane treatment of these animals
through direct care, humane education and community outreach programs. Anderson Animal Shelter adheres
to the highest ethical standards, and is dedicated to creating a community environment that eliminates the
