NEW: TYRE PRESSURE CONTROL SYSTEM (RDC).
EQUIPPED FOR
INCREASED SAFETY.
Introduced from March 2014, all new BMWs will be fitted as standard with option 2VB,
the tyre pressure control system, RDC. This system means you can always keep an eye on
the pressure in your tyres.
You benefit from increased safety.
Correct tyre pressures reduce the risk of tyre damage, thereby increasing safety.
You benefit from reduced fuel consumption.
Tyres at the correct pressure generate less rolling resistance. This impacts positively on
fuel consumption (graph 1).
You benefit from a longer service life of the tyre.
The correct tyre pressure helps prevent irregular wear and tear, thereby extending the
tyre’s service life (graph 2).

How the tyre pressure control system works.
An RDC sensor is installed in the tyre valve of all four
wheels. This monitors the pressure of each individual
tyre. At a critical pressure (20 per cent below TARGET
or below the defined minimum pressure of less than
1.7 bar), you are alerted via the Control Display inside
the car, enabling you to take the necessary action.
What does this mean as far as you are concerned?
As the driver of a new car with tyre pressure control system, you must make sure that
any winter tyre set you buy are fitted with an RDC sensor.
BMW offers all Winter Wheels and Tyres with RDC sensor.

Don’t compromise when it comes to safety.
At temperatures of 7°C and below, standard tyres no longer provide optimum grip as
their rubber mixture hardens. This impacts negatively on grip, steering and traction,
especially on a wet, icy or snow-covered road surface. By contrast, winter tyres are made
of special cold-resistant rubber mixtures so as to maintain grip in low temperatures.

BMW quality is about more than just the EU tyre label.
Since the end of 2012, there has been an EU tyre label which
provides information on three tyre properties: fuel efficiency, wet
grip and external rolling noise. The aim of these figures is to help
consumers choose suitable tyres – however, they are only useful
to a certain extent, especially when it comes to winter tyres. This
is because EU tests do not cover winter road conditions and
temperatures.

Brake discs are one of the most important and most exposed safety-related parts in a car. They have to
endure extremes. When an emergency stop is made at a speed of 130 km/h on a dry test track, the brakes of a
