We have plans for a culminating project of entries into the Belfast “Please be seated” summer art program. The Advance IA class made a heavy duty work table for the Empty Bowl auction. The top was made with left over 2x4’s from last years prom. They’re now working on waxing stands for the x-country ski team, two indoor pitchers mounds for the baseball team to practice indoors, and a chariot for the Latin Club. The shop has also been asked to make a sign for the Appleton Library. The Architecture class will refine some sketches and pass them onto the Intro. to IA classes to make by the end of the year. Special thanks to Brendan Riordan at Rockport Marine for donating a 42” plotter (a really WIDE printer!). It’s getting put to use by the drafting class—the CAD, architecture, and engineering classes will likely find a use for it this spring as well! He also pointed me to Peter Johanson of Johanson Boatworks. He and his employee Jeff came in to explain some of the basics techniques of fiberglass manufacturing for my engineering class who are participating in the Maine Wind Blade Challenge. I’d like to start an after school robotics club at the high school based on the VEX kits. If you or your student are interested contact me—I could use the help getting this initiative off the ground.
