Firefighters embarked on this project hoping to create a memorial that would help commemorate Santa Fe Springs firefighters who lost their lives serving courageously in the line of duty. The memorial would stand as a tribute to four members of the Santa Fe Springs Fire Department who dedicated their life to public safety and served Santa Fe Springs honorably. Firefighters are raising funds for this memorial through the sale of two challenge coins. Challenge coins bear an organization’s insignia or emblem and are commonly used by the military, fire, and police departments, and are carried by the organization’s members. The Department of Fire-Rescue invites the community to obtain a custom designed coin and become part of the Fire Department’s family. Both challenge coins have a minimum donation of $20 and are available at all four of the City’s fire stations.
