We hit the ground running after we checked into our hotel rooms. All of the DECA students participating in a written event or role-play practiced and met with peers, teachers and volunteers from the afternoon until we were exhausted. On Sunday, the written event competitions began. Anxious students waited to present their projects that they had worked so hard on for months. The next morning, we all ran down the halls to see which 10 in our categories had qualified for finals. Then, on Monday, the role-play competitions started as well, where students had two role-plays to compete in before they knew if they made it to finals. On Tuesday, the final day, role-play finalists competed one more time. After all competitions ended, both written and role-plays, we sat nervously at Broadmoor Hall awaiting the results of who would make the cut for the top 5 spots going to Nationals. Overall, the weekend at the conference was buckets of fun yet exhausting as well! Sheeks’ 1st period is arguably the best Dart Warz class in all the land. The class is national champs and takes pride of having that title. Another interesting fact about Sheeks’ 1st period is that they have 10 national qualifiers and are all very excited to compete at the ICDC in Nashville this April. We hope they all bring home some hardware to add to an already impressive résumé for Cherry Creek DECA. While we did not bring home the DECA kickball trophy, but Sheeks’ 1st period class is optimistic to put the dodge ball trophy in room 220. Thank you Mr. Sheeks for a great year and you are the best DECA teacher EVER! Page 2 The DECA Digest Movie Night Social Coming Up By: Cody Allen DECA Movie Night is coming up! The two class senators are John Hyer and Maddie Ray. Each day is a new and exciting adventure with Mrs. Adolphi. Everyone looks forward to starting their day with this class because of Mrs. Adolphi’s energetic personality. There is no way this class could ever put you in a bad mood or ruin your day. We are currently learning about price planning and everything that goes along with it. We have learned that offering a low price for an item you have no intention of selling (also known as bait & switch) is illegal, along with price discrimination; offering a different price for the same product based on who’s buying. The Robinson-Patman Act prohibits price discrimination. Fun at State! By: Lindsey Watson The State DECA Conference was crazy busy, to say the least! Groups were practicing over and over again until their presentation reached perfection, and role-play competitors spent several hours studying and reviewing their notes. However, students managed to find time for some fun while staying at the gorgeous Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs. One night, CCHS and Cherokee Trail rented a shuttle to take students into town for dinner. The shuttle ran every 30 minutes, taking large groups of kids to Red Robin, Chili’s, Panda Express and so many other restaurants. Later that night, students attended the annual DECA Dance, which was held in one of the ballrooms. There was a DJ (who played songs that kids requested), colorful flashing lights, and thousands of teenagers dancing together. Creek DECA students made sure to be seen while we danced together to songs like The Electric Slide and The Cha Cha Slide. It was a great way to meet new people who all shared something great in common…DECA! During the day, students had some free time to spare in between competitions and workshops. The Broadmoor Theatre played a few movies every day that students could go to watch and relax for a few hours. The Broadmoor’s bowling alley was also open to students who wanted to have some fun and maybe even play a few games against other schools. State DECA was a busy few days, but the activities and friendships students made with one another and the time they spent with our amazing teachers made this trip very memorable. It most definitely will be one of the best memories we all experienced together during our high school career at CCHS. Page 3 The DECA Digest Creek DECA Cheers on the Nuggets! By: Katie Robinson Friday, March 4 was DECA Night at the Nuggets. It was a social event for our chapter that many of us attended. The game was between the Brooklyn Nets and our Nuggets. Sadly, the Nuggets lost 121-120. However, the night was still fun! The students all sat together and could cheer along. There were plenty of funny moments from Rocky spraying a stubborn man with a fire extinguisher to Konrad twerking on the big screen. Overall, the night at the Nuggets was a blast and everyone who came enjoyed it! Who is Mrs. Padzik? By: Carrie Plank Y ou’ve probably noticed the DECA office is a bit more crowded this year. That’s because we have one more incredible DECA teacher! Mrs. Padzik or Padz stepped up to the plate to take on a rowdy class of seniors. I am one of the lucky students who have gotten to know and love Padz over the year. She is a Creek alumni and a Colorado State graduate. Padz has two adorable kids in addition to her third period class of seventeen DECA seniors. Every day she makes sure each of us knows how important we are to her which just goes to show what an amazing teacher she is. Fun Fact about Padz is that she and her husband are huge “Friends” fans and named their daughter Emma after Ross and Rachel’s daughter. If you haven’t gotten the chance to meet Padz - drop what you’re doing and get down to the DECA office now! Mr. Creek a Huge Success! By: Emma Reilly On Wednesday, March 9th about a dozen boys from Cherry Creek competed in the annual Mr. Creek contest in the Fine Arts Theater. This is an annual event organized by Creek DECA to raise money for the MDA. The boys are chosen from various sports and clubs at Creek. This year the event was better than ever! The Mr. Creek Pageant, which every year involves hilarious and awesome dances and songs, did not disappoint. Hayden Parr sang an awesome rendition of Party in the U.S.A. by Miley Cyrus. Wylie Maloney rapped Boys in the Hood, with tattoo sleeves, a toy car and his inmate friends. Anthony Miccio did Miley Cyrus justice with his version of Wrecking Ball. Alan Stolyar sang in nothing but a speedo, oh and a white morph suit, to the song Walk Away by Kelley Clarkson. Yuki Hashimoto sang Kung Fu Panda in a giant sumo wrestler suit, and demonstrated what it really meant to be a Kung Fu fighter. Trevor Brown slowed it down for us in his long strapless blue dress, singing the song Let it Go, which most people recognize from the movie Frozen. Austin Cooper sang Let’s Get it On, while bringing up a girl from the audience! Jack Hagen recreated the sensational performance by Brittany Spears in her song toxic. Ted Walker also rapped Ice Ice Baby, and although there were some sound difficulties, Ted pulled through with his awesome dance moves. And last but not least, Joe Caplis demonstrated his awesome trumpet skills, while riding a hoverboard, when preforming the song All of Me by John Legend. All the boys then participated in interview questions, ranging from what’s your idea of a perfect date to what’s your favorite type of ballroom dancing. Although all the boys gave an awesome effort, Joe Caplis won runner up and Austin Cooper won Mr. Creek. It was definitely a night to remember.
