The Euclid Heat Treating Company was established in 1945 in a garage building at 1408 E.
222nd St. with salt furnaces and open fired furnaces. Over the past 54 years we have
expanded to include endothermic atmosphere furnaces, an entire building devoted to
induction hardening, an array of vacuum furnaces including a vacuum oil quench and a
V.F.S. 10 bar furnace, pit furnaces, and much more.
In 2008, Euclid Heat Treating embarked on an expansion of our Induction Division. To
facilitate this expansion, we relocated and expanded our offices and training facility to a
neighboring building at 1340 E. 222nd St. This allowed us to tear down existing offices that
were built into the production area of our Induction facility. We gained 2,000 square feet of
additional space. In addition to expanding floor space, newly purchased induction equipment
includes a new dual scanner with a 150 KW 3- 10 KC power source and a 150 KW 3-10 KC
power source for a multiple use station. A 300KW 3-10 KC Tocco unit is being installed to
replace one of our original motor generator power sources.
Other new services we offer include Intensive Quenching, eddy current inspection,
dimensional inspection and custom packaging and shipping.
The continual investment in new equipment and technologies will help The Euclid Heat
Treating Company maintain its position as the most diversified commercial heat treating
company in Northeastern Ohio.

www.jergensinc.com
Jergens Inc. was founded in 1942 by Jack Schron, Sr., and his father, Christy, originally
under the name Glenn Tool and Manufacturing. In response to the needs of wartime
production, they began to manufacture standard components in the building next door, with
the goal of helping American Manufacturers operate quickly and more efficiently. “The
Standard Components with the Highest Standards” became this new company’s founding
philosophy, and it put Jergens, Inc. on the forefront of the “lean manufacturing” movement
before anyone even thought to put those two words together.
Over time the company has expanded into three distinct divisions including the Tooling
Components Division (TCD), Jergens Industrial Supply (JIS), and the ASG Group. We
manufacturing over 80% of what we sell right here in our 130,000 sq. ft. Cleveland, OH
facility, guaranteeing you high quality, competitive pricing and immediate availability (or fast
turnaround times on special items). We are one of the biggest users of our own products and
can set up lean cells to accommodate lot sizes from 1 to 10,000, thanks to our own tooling
components and engineered products like the Ball Lock™and the Zero.Point System.

Teamwork
Research & development –
Each member of the group participated in brainstorming to identify the best ideas for the
design of the robot. Once the final concept was decided, the students used AutoCAD software to
create a drawing and make blueprints for the individual pieces of the robot. Careful attention was given
to the weight of the robot by using a weight calculator to monitor each step of the process and to be
sure the robot met the requirements of the competition.
Fabrication –
Each piece of the robot was made using a combination of engineering and manufacturing
equipment and machinery. The students used Master Cam software to crate profiles of the pieces.
They then used a Wire EDM machine to cut the shapes out of bar stock and sheet metal. From there,
the pieces went to the mill, which cut the mounting holes and windows in each piece. After each
process, the pieces were inspected to maintain accuracy. Upon completion, the pieces were
assembled and tested.

Cleveland Heights High School has a long history of excellence - in 2007 the 100th
graduating class received their diplomas. The district is building on that record but
we are keenly aware that the world is rapidly changing. To prepare our students for
college, citizenship and work in a global economy, we are working to make the
education that students receive today relevant to their needs and goals.
In 2004 the school began the transformation to five small schools, each housed in a
different wing of the building. This structural change makes it easier for staff to
know students and to help each student reach their potential.
It also began a change in the professional life of teachers, encouraging more
professional collaboration with a focus on teaching practice. Teachers meet
regularly to discuss teaching methods and to share best practices. Data from formal
and informal assessments are used to adjust instruction to meet the needs of
students.
Our goal is to develop students that can think critically, possess decision making
skills, work collaboratively and apply knowledge.

BOWDEN MANUFACTURING
Overview of the Project –
This is our first year in the RoboBot Competition. Our main goal was to manufacture
a robot that had good maneuverability, with an offensive weapon that would cause
damage to the competition. We used a third wheel caster design with a horizontal
blade design. We believe with that approach – the robot will be able to give a
challenge to the competition.
MESSAGE FROM THE TEAM –
We would like to thank Bowden Manufacturing for all
their time, supplies and guidance through this grueling
process of design and manufacturing of the robot. Thanks
to all our parents for their support. Our robot was a joint
venture of team work, creativity and hard work for our very
small but dedicated team.

LAKE SHORE COMPACT
The Lake Shore Compact is a consortium of four local school districts offering
interdistrict Career-Technical and College Tech Prep programs to eligible students.
The Compact includes Mentor, Willoughby-Eastlake, Wickliffe, and Euclid Schools.
All enrolled career-technical students earn high school credits toward graduation
from their home schools.
Lakeland Community College is one site that offers College Tech Prep training for
the compact in four technical areas: CAD Engineering, Computer Information
Systems, Construction Management, and Information Technology Services. At
Lakeland, students enter the tech prep curriculum in one of these four technical
fields that students can select for their junior and senior year of high school. It
blends academic course work to prepare for college and high tech applied learning
in a technical field in which the student is interested. Students are eligible to earn
college credit for their high school course work for free and can continue their
education through an Associates Degree and beyond.
Project Overview –
Mike Prochaska, Engineering Lab Technician at Lakeland has 9 juniors in his
Tech Prep CAD/ET program at Lakeland that are competing in the robobot
competition as the Lake Shore Compact team. The industry partner is Jergens and
Darel Taylor has been the “go to” person at Jergens for the team. The students have
been working on the robot after school 2-3 days a week for the past 2 months at
Jergens as well as having weekly meetings during class at Lakeland.
During these initial meetings we assembled the robot kit, wired the
electronics, brainstormed for several weeks on weapon designs, modifications to
the basic chassis, the 15 pound weight limit as well as many other items related to
the competition rules and surviving to the final rounds. While working at Jergens
the team has been involved a lot with the design, assembly, and testing of the robot.
Early designs created from cardboard mock-ups evolved into prototypes out of
aluminum and then our final robot.
The students have been extremely enthusiastic about the competition and are
really looking forward to April 30th.

The Riverside Rampage is gearing up for battle! Our team is made up of 10 very diverse
students with a wide range of interests and skills. Through this amazing process, they have
learned to work together as a team unified with one specific goal: to crush the competition.
From sketches and SolidWorks drawings to models and prototypes, our team has literally
built our robot from the ground up. Intense teamwork and cooperation fueled by our team’s
creativity and desire to win, have led us to this day.
With the help of Fredon, our partner and sponsor, our students have learned a great deal
about manufacturing and machining. They have had the opportunity to un manual and CNC
lathes and mills, select materials, set up tooling and fixtures, and take elaborate parts from
concepts through fabrication.
The RoboBots program has truly been a one-of-a-kind experience for all of us and has
provided our students with skills that will serve them well beyond their high school years.
