Reflections on the year 1969
If you do an internet search on “fun facts from the year 1969,”
you’ll come up with some pretty interesting and mind boggling
history. The older you are, the more impactful some of these little factoids
are. You might be wondering what the year 1969 has to do with your next
fishing trip, but we’ll get to that in a minute. Let me help you revisit some
interesting facts first.
In 1969 Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin and Neil Armstrong were the first humans to set foot on the moon, and
the first temporary artificial heart transplant in a human being was performed at the Texas Heart
Institute. Our government instituted the draft lottery for U.S. Forces for the Vietnam War. This was the
first draft since WWII. Ironically, the first United States troop withdrawals from the Vietnam War were
also made this year. I told you this was interesting stuff.
Regular color TV broadcasts began, and all cigarette advertising on TV and radio was banned by the
FCC. The Brady Bunch premiered on the ABC network (maybe that should have been banned by
the FCC). In the music world, the Beatles released their record Abbey Road and also made their last
public performance. Elvis Presley hit Number 1 with “Suspicious Minds,” and the famous music festival
Woodstock took place on a New York farm, attracting more than 350,000 fans. Are you feeling old yet?
In sports, the New York Jets defeated the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III, and the New York Mets
won the World Series. Richard Nixon was inducted as the 37th United States President. Boeing’s 747
made its debut by taking 191 people from Seattle to New York City (they wouldn’t serve Starbucks
coffee on that route for at least another 16 years).
Tossing in a few 1969 daily economics: A postage stamp was 6 cents, and a dozen eggs would cost
you 62 cents. You could buy a gallon of milk for $1.10, and a 2-pound can of coffee was $1.39. Gas
was 35 cents a gallon and a movie ticket averaged 3 bucks. You could buy a new home for $15,550,
but if you were a renter you’d likely be paying about $135 a month. The average annual income per
household was $8,550, and you could run out and buy that new car for around $3,270.
Also in 1969, a tall, good-humored dentist from Columbus, Ohio by the name of Michael Fitzgerald
Sr. decided to hang up his drill for good. He and his wife Susie opened the doors of Fish & Game
Frontiers which later became Frontiers International Travel, pioneering a niche industry, and
setting the standards for sporting travel the world over for decades to come. They explored and

Michael and Susie Fitzgerald at least a small debt of gratitude for having the courage to take a chance
on such a whimsical vision for a business. Think about it for a minute. Their dreams were about
making yours come true.
Lots of things have changed in the 44 years since Frontiers began. Sadly, we lost Mike Sr. this year, but
fortunately some things haven’t changed like Mike’s “tell it like it is” approach and his high standards
of customer service and thus, his legacy lives on. Turn the pages and pick your next adventure. It might
just be the best trip of your life.

BAHAMAS
Welcome to the Bahamas!
Point your boat due east from Ft. Lauderdale and continue
for about 50 miles, and you’ll cross a gateway into The Bahamas, also known as some of the finest bonefish habitat
on the planet. Consisting of more than 700 islands and cays, almost
all of which harbor great numbers of bonefish, this English-speaking nation continues to be a preferred destination for flats fishing enthusiasts.
This is where newbies go to try their hand at flats fishing, knowing that being in a target-rich
environment is the key to squashing the learning curve. Schools of cooperative bonefish that
number in the hundreds and even thousands can be found here along with the big bones
of which dreams and fishing careers are made.
Sound a bit exaggerated? Tell that to the guys who have been fishing these waters for 30plus years. The term “world-class” gets tossed around a lot these days, but if there was ever
a destination worthy of that moniker, it would be the Bahamas.
For more than 30 years, Frontiers has coordinated memorable fishing vacations to this
friendly commonwealth nation. Islands such as Abaco, Andros, Crooked, Grand Bahama
and Long have served as venues for first-time bonefishers and countless repeat travelers.
Whether you are a single angler looking for a quick two- or three-day fishing trip, a group of
fishing buddies in search of a remote out-island experience or a family seeking quality time
for a week with some fishing sprinkled in, Frontiers can put together a perfect trip for you.

Mangrove Cay Club
Andros Island
When anglers think of the Bahamas and bonefish,
Andros Island always tops the list of places to go.
When the talk turns to best lodges, MANGROVE CAY
CLUB leads the discussion. Mangrove Cay Club is the
proverbial bottle of wine that gets better over time.
The club has immediate access to the bountiful
fisheries of the north, middle bights and the
prosperous west side of Andros. No other Bahamas
lodge can boast these attributes. These fisheries have
Manager owner Liz Bain conducting a
strategy session with guests
a well-deserved reputation for bonefish averaging 3
to 4 pounds, and each and every season anglers here always seem to land more than their share of bonefish well
over the 10-pound mark.
Known for its professional and veteran staff of native Bahamian guides, spacious and well-appointed duplex
cottages and cuisine and service that is second to none, there is good reason Mangrove Cay Club sees a wealth
of repeat clients.
The four duplex cottages are located on the water and feature amenities such as air conditioning and ceiling
fans, soundproof walls, separate sitting rooms, oversized bathrooms, high cypress ceilings and private porches
overlooking the Middle Bight. Hosting a maximum of 16 anglers ensures high-quality service and personalized
attention.
Chef Iyke Moore’s superb culinary skills are unbelievable. Nowhere else have we experienced such incredible
meals day in and day out, year in and year out. Guests can expect a diversified menu featuring freshly caught
local seafood, fresh vegetables, beef, chicken and decadent desserts. Chef Iyke’s cracked conch simply cannot be
missed (nor have we seen it duplicated elsewhere).
New and updated amenities include a flat screen television and iPod-compatible sound system in the bar area,
daily 6 a.m. coffee and tea room service, furniture improvements and a well-stocked fly shop complete with new
products including select women’s apparel.
In addition, SPOT location devices are now on every boat. These devices give precise real-time location of individual
boats on an as-needed basis, ensuring peace of mind for anglers, their family members, guides and the lodge.
A five-night / four-day flats fishing package based on double occupancy and shared guide is $3,850 per person.

Deep Water Cay Club
Grand Bahama Island
At DEEP WATER CAY CLUB, anglers will find more than 250 square miles of flats to
fish either by wading or from a poled skiff. The wadeable flats are hard-packed white
sand, and the bones are easy to spot. Boat fishing is done around the softer bottoms
covered in turtle grass. Bones here are plentiful and often large. Anglers can expect to
see schools of fish numbering in the hundreds, but it’s the singles and doubles that
provide the draw: These “solos” and “pairs” often eclipse the 10-pound mark. A staff
of veteran native Bahamian guides will help anglers find and land these trophy fish.
A new fleet of top-of-the-line Hells Bay Marquesa and Professional Model skiffs
ensure comfort on the flats. These boats are designed to float in the skinniest of
water and afford a dry ride and stability while casting. Everyone will appreciate the
leaning bars and quiet four-stroke, environmentally friendly 70- and 90-horsepower
Yamaha outboard engines. For the offshore enthusiast, the club has added two new
World Cats to its fleet.
A new Tiki Bar, complete with shady palms and fire pit, welcomes anglers off the
water at days end. Other notable new amenities include the floating dock, kayak
rack, swimming beach, scuba pro shop, fly shop, club reservations office and
activity center.
Accommodations are comfortably relaxed. Individuals and fishing partners typically
prefer the cabanas. These one-bedroom units have a private bathroom, two full-size
beds and a front porch that overlooks an inviting bonefish flat. Each comes with a
refrigerator, coffee maker, walk-in closet and air conditioning. Private homes are also
available and feature full kitchens, sitting and living rooms, dining areas and wraparound verandas. A variety of cottages will meet any group’s particular needs.
Deep Water Cay has been the “go to” club for many years. Be sure to put it on your
short list of must see lodges. A five-night / four-day flats fishing package starts at
$4,250 per person based on a shared room and guide and includes room taxes and
staff gratuities.

Abaco Lodge
Abaco Island
ABACO LODGE opened in 2009 and quickly became a favorite of many traveling
bonefishermen. Located on the Marls, one of the most prolific saltwater flats systems
in the Bahamas, Abaco Lodge has direct access to this exceptional fishery.
For more than 20 miles along the western side of Abaco Island, the average water
depth is 4 feet. This shallow area, along with hundreds of cays, channels and flats,
provides the perfect habitat for bonefish. It would take a lifetime to cover this
vast region.
Abaco Lodge is prepared to handle both first-time bonefishermen and savvy veterans.
Reports from the first few seasons show that many anglers caught their first bonefish
(averaging 2 to 3 pounds), while others broke their records for numbers of fish caught.
For double-digit-sized bones, the short ride to the eastside flats is worth a shot.
Cherokee Sound, the Bight of Robinson and Snake Cay are all challenging but
rewarding. Here, fish won’t be listed as numbers caught, but rather as pounds hefted.
The lodge can accommodate up to 10 fishermen, and the single occupancy, airconditioned rooms with private baths and shared decks continue to be a main
attraction. The knowledgeable, hardworking, English-speaking guides have grown up
on these waters, so anglers are sure to have productive, enjoyable days.
Abaco Lodge sits waterside and faces due west, lined up perfectly for stunning sunsets.
Amenities include a fully stocked bar, soaking pool, comfortable sitting room, pro shop,
fly tying room and the ever-popular fire pit. For those who want to stay connected with
the wider world, the lodge has high-speed Wi-Fi and a flat screen television
in the lounge.
Argentinean-accented gourmet meals feature fresh local fish, seafood, beef, fruits
and vegetables. You’ll enjoy freshly baked breads, pastries and cookies daily, and the
freshly ground coffee is a treat every morning. The lodge also has safe drinking water
thanks to its reverse osmosis filter system.
A five-night / four-day flats fishing package based on single occupancy and shared
guide is $3,825 from October 2013 to March 15, 2014, and $4,225 from March 15 to

Bair’s Lodge
Bair’s Lodge
Andros Island
BAIR’S LODGE sits on the southeast side of famed Andros Island. The island is recognized as a world-class bonefish
destination due to its prolific creeks and flats systems. Bair’s Lodge is a five-minute boat ride from two of Andros’s
best creeks. Longer boat rides will take anglers to the superb wadeable flats of South Andros and the remote bonefish
wilderness of the “West Side.” The West Side has the reputation for some of the planet’s biggest bonefish, and the
lodge’s professional guides are well qualified to put anglers within a double haul cast of them. Here, bones average 3
to 5 pounds, and shots at trophy size fish of 10 pounds or more are not at all uncommon.
The lodge is an attractive plantation-style building beside the ocean and is surrounded by tropical flowers, palm trees
and an alluring beach. It can accommodate up to 12 anglers in six double occupancy rooms. Each of these rooms has
an ensuite bathroom, air conditioning, ceiling fans, comfortable seating and storage space for fishing gear. Rod racks
are handy, as are freshwater hoses to wash down equipment at the end of the day.
Superb Argentinean-accented cuisine includes fresh fish, conch, lobster and fresh-baked breads, pastries and cookies.
Coffee beans are ground every morning, and there is always a good supply of fresh drinking water from the lodge’s
reverse osmosis filter system.
After a productive day of fishing, wind down in a hammock or enjoy some friendly
camaraderie and a cool beverage at the waterside fire pit.
A five-night / four-day flats fishing package based on double occupancy and
shared guide is $3,995 per person from March 15 to June 30, 2014, and
$3,825 per person from October 1, 2013 to March 15, 2014. Bar drinks
are included in the rate.

best bonefishing programs. Located on Grand Bahama Island in Freeport’s Lucaya District,
A Pelican Bay standard waterside room
H2O is only a short flight from the eastern United States.
The flats on the north side of Grand Bahama Island are expansive, fertile and teeming with
bonefish averaging close to 4 pounds. Broad-shouldered bones of 5 to 8 pounds are fairly
common, and trophy fish exceeding 10 pounds are always possible (the club’s record is a
14.5 pounder). H2O’s veteran staff of savvy Bahamian guides are on the water 12 months
a year, and will get you on singles, pairs and schools of aggressive bonefish.
Anglers also occasionally encounter permit, and for those willing to put in the time and
effort, they can be the highlight of any trip. April through November is considered peak
permit time, but any month with settled weather can be productive. H2O’s biggest permit

to date tipped the scales at over 30 pounds, a trophy in any water.
Juvenile and adult tarpon show up in the warmer months, mutton snapper are frequently
accessible on calm spring and summer days, and even tailing triggerfish can be found
on certain flats. In addition to these great game fish, packs of horse eye jacks, large jack
crevalle, barracuda and a variety of sharks are all known to frequent the same flats.
H2O’s “No Boundaries” program was born from a passion to further explore and develop
the world-class fly fishing opportunities at Grand Bahama. A 21-foot custom flats boat that
is designed to not only travel greater distances faster and in more comfort is used to target
a wider variety of species on the fly. This exclusive Bahamian program offers clients the
chance to fish remote waters off the Little Bahama Bank with the comfort of a land-based
operation. These remote regions often attract big bones and permit that seldom, if ever,
see a fly. No Boundaries is available during June and July and requires a minimum fivenight / four-day stay during which two days will be set aside for exploration.
For the offshore enthusiast, H2O offers seasonal blue water fly fishing charters for yellowfin
tuna, blackfin tuna, skip jack and dorado aboard their 31-foot Contender powered by
twin 250hp Yamaha engines. The offshore “bite” turns on during the late afternoon and
early evening, allowing anglers to fish the flats in the morning and then have the option to
experience the action offshore on the very same day. Alternatively, anglers could utilize this
program on arrival or departure days to maximize their fishing time.
The Pelican Bay Hotel, next to the Lucaya Marketplace, is used for accommodations. It’s
a charming and intimate colonial-style facility with standard Waterside Rooms and larger
State Room suites.
This is also a great destination for nonfishers traveling with anglers. In addition to ocean
beach access and three swimming pools from which to choose, guests can also spend
their leisure time at any of the 55 shops that make up the marketplace, dine at one of
30 restaurants, play golf and tennis, scuba dive, snorkel, swim with dolphins or try their
luck at a casino.
H2O is ideally suited for the experienced angler seeking a multitude of species on the fly
and the distinct possibility of trophy fish. A minimum of two fishing days is required, but
there are no set arrival or departure days. A five-night / four-day flats fishing package based

North Riding Point Club
Grand Bahama Island
NORTH RIDING POINT CLUB, a nearly all-inclusive lodge with deluxe accommodations
is located on the south side of Grand Bahama Island, where some of the most
productive fishing grounds in all of the Bahamas are found. This private property
encompasses six pristine acres including a beautiful stretch of white sand beach.
Getting to this destination is simple; guests can fly to the city of Freeport’s Grand
Bahama International Airport, which offers several daily U.S. flight options. The club is a
30-minute drive from Freeport.
Embarking on its 17th season, North Riding Point Club is now managed by Paul Adams.
Paul is an avid angler who grew up in the Bahamas and was taught fly fishing by noted
author, editor and sport fisherman A.J. McClane. Paul will see to your every need on-site
and help to ensure you have a memorable vacation.
Most of the fishing takes place on the massive north shore flats system, but the south
side also affords excellent fishing. Grand Bahama’s flats are known for their abundance
of 4- to 6-pound bonefish; double-digit size trophy fish are frequently encountered. The
club’s local guides are all experienced, licensed captains and professional in conduct.
They work hard to ensure that your day on the flats is productive and fun. A new fleet of
Hell’s Bay skiffs powered by 90hp 4-stroke engines is now in place. Whether being poled
by a guide or wading a flat, fishing at North Riding Point Club is as good as it gets.
Guest accommodations consist of four spacious oceanfront cottages with large screened
porches. All rooms are well-appointed and air-conditioned with two queen beds, private
five-piece bathrooms, spacious walk-in closets, telephones and wet-bar refrigerators.
Other amenities include a freshwater pool situated close to the main clubhouse, WiFi, a tackle shop and gift shop. Massages are available by appointment. The club staff
is attentive and sees that all guest needs are met. Evenings are always relaxing and
enjoyable with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres offered at the clubhouse, followed by a full
course dinner service prepared by the award-winning chef.
Non-angling guests can also enjoy this getaway. Other available activities and excursions
include: snorkeling, diving, kayaking, eco-tours, horseback riding, golf and shopping or
spa treatments at Lucaya.
A five-night / four-day flats fishing package based on double occupancy and shared
guide is $4,200 per person. The season runs from October 2013 to July 2014.

Mars Bay Bonefish Lodge
South Andros Island
MARS BAY BONEFISH LODGE is a small, no-frills outfit situated in a prime location on the southeastern side of Andros Island. The
lodge itself is positioned on a superb flat, and given the right tide anglers can have the opportunity to fish from sunup to sundown.
The lodge accommodates eight anglers, making it the perfect size for intact groups looking for privacy at an affordable rate.
Guests can expect to encounter everything from large schools of 2- to 4- pound tailing bones, all the way up to the big loners
exceeding that magical 10-pound mark. Almost all of the fishing is done near the southern tip of the island. Jackfish Cay and the Curly
Cut Cays are some of the best and most expansive wade fishing flats in the bonefish world, and Mars Bay has access to them.
Managed onsite by American Bill Howard, the accommodations are clean and modern, the meals are nothing short of spectacular,
the guides are hard-working and excel at their jobs and, oh yes, the beer is always ice cold. There is nothing pretentious about Mars
Bay. As Bill states, “We won’t crack your pepper for you, and you’ll not find a mint on your pillow.” What guests will find is a friendly,
courteous wait and guide staff at a lodge with excellent access to one of the Bahamas’ finest bonefishing resources. Mars Bay fits the
bill for what many of Frontiers’ clients have been asking. Don’t wait to book, as repeat clients make space hard to find.
A five-night / four-day flats fishing package based on double occupancy and a shared guide is $2,450 per person.

Kamalame Cay
Andros Island
KAMALAME CAY is a 96-acre private island little more than a stone’s throw away from
the Bahamas’ bonefish mecca of northeast Andros Island. Andros is home to world-class
bonefishing, and Kamalame is fortunate to offer exceptional sight fishing from its doorstep.
Here, anglers will experience the productive local waters of Staniard Creek as well as the
nearby creeks and flats stretching north to Mastic Point. Fish averaging a solid 3 to 4 pounds

Anglers who’ve already visited Los Roques have found
the standard for bonefish destinations. For them, returning
is an easy decision, but those who have not yet been to this incredible
island simply have to move this to the top of their fishing lists. Stop
waiting. No more Chavez concerns to worry about, no more excuses;
pack your bags. It’s time to see what all the fuss is about.
Envision your first trip to Los Roques like you’re going to bonefish school, because it’s
truly a target-rich environment from which you’ll gain years of experience in just one
trip. You’ll have patient, helpful and encouraging guides watching over you. You’ll enjoy
high numbers of fish mixed with plenty of shots at trophy-sized fish. You’ll be equally
happy whether you choose to book a guy’s fishing getaway or a couple’s vacation,
because the only thing that rivals the fishing is the incredibly relaxed atmosphere on
the island. By day two you’ll wonder why you packed a pair of shoes.
Los Roques fishes well year round and is virtually a hurricane-proof destination, which
opens up tons of opportunities to visit the Caribbean in the fall months. Temperatures
vary just a little, averaging around 82 degrees Fahrenheit. January through April tend
to be the busiest months because of the winter weather in the United States. Anglers
who like to wade and stalk their prey should plan to fish Los Roques any time between
January and September. In the fall months when the tides are higher, the hunt is
divided equally between fishing from the boat and wading There is more species
diversity in the fall, too, as baby tarpon are joined by some big ones (30 to 60 pounds)
and permit become pretty reliable targets as well. Be sure to bring along a 9- or
10-weight outfit with plenty of backing!

Belize River Lo
Belize River Lodge
BELIZE RIVER LODGE is a tried and proven fishing property that has been in operation
since 1960 under the same committed ownership and management teams. The main
lodge sits nestled in the jungle canopy along the banks of the Old Belize River. A favorite
among Frontiers clients, the comfortable accommodations and exceptional traditional
Belizean food welcome fishermen back year after year.
Species preference dictates fishing location. Short runs to nearby jungle rivers, creeks and
lagoons are good for snook and baby tarpon. Slightly longer runs to the outside flats and
cays give anglers shots at bonefish, permit and big tarpon. Tarpon are truly the kings here,
as Old Belize River has both a year-round fishery for juvenile fish and a summer and fall
fishery for their large migratory counterparts.
For nonfishing companions, Mayan ruin tours, visits to the Belize Zoo and many other
guided excursions including zip lining, cave tubing, diving and snorkeling can be arranged.

Casa Blanca
Casa Blanca and Playa Blanca
The Yucatan Peninsula south of Cancun is home to a variety of fishing
lodges, but look no further than the tiny island of Punta Pajaros for two
of the best, CASA BLANCA LODGE and PLAYA BLANCA LODGE, both
renowned for their outstanding shallow water flats fishing. Best of all, the
island is easily accessed via a 50-minute charter flight from Cancun. Casa
Blanca is just across from the airstrip while Playa Blanca is a 25-minute
safari-style truck drive further south.
For more than 20 years, Casa Blanca has welcomed anglers from all over the
world to fish the famed waters of Ascension Bay and the Santa Rosa Lagoon.
Located on the northern tip of the island, the lodge has access to worldclass bonefish and permit fishing on seemingly endless, hard sand flats. Add
in the shadowy mangrove lagoons for snook and tarpon and you have an
outstanding destination with numerous fishing options.
All of Casa Blanca’s rooms are spacious and feature ensuite bathrooms, tile
floors, air conditioning and lots of windows so you have the option of fresh
ocean breezes or climate controlled comfort. The beachfront main lodge
is a thatched-roof palapa with a dining area and bar — it’s a great spot for
breakfast, dinner, evening drinks and fishing tales. The food features local
seafood and international cuisine and is prepared with a combination of
Mexican and Mayan recipes. Wi-Fi makes it easy for those who need to stay
in touch with work and family to do so.

Playa Blanca originally opened as an “Adventure Resort,” but word of mouth about the
outstanding fishing resulted in the lodge operating almost exclusively for fishing guests.
Most of the adventure activities are still offered, making it an ideal destination for both
anglers and nonanglers.
Playa Blanca accesses one of the most remote fisheries in the Caribbean, Espiritu Santo
Bay. The bay is full of clear, saltwater flats, mangrove islands and secluded lagoons.
Bonefish are the most abundant species with permit, snook and tarpon around in good
numbers as well. Like Casa Blanca, the lodge has access to Santa Rosa Lagoon with its
tall mangroves, a perfect safe haven on windier days.
Fourteen anglers are accommodated in seven spacious rooms that are situated amongst
palm trees on a sand dune bluff along the azure Caribbean. Tastefully decorated with
bright Caribbean accents, the rooms feature large ensuite bathrooms, queen size beds
and ceiling fans. The beachfront main lodge has Wi-Fi, a dining room, bar and a rooftop
sitting area that’s the best place to be for stunning sunsets. Just relax and enjoy life.
The rate for a seven-night / six-day fishing package at either Casa Blanca or Playa Blanca
based on double occupancy and shared guide is $4,404
during the February to May high season and $3,993
during the low season. Single fishing and nonangler

While the distant future of the lodge is still uncertain, we

Holbox
Holbox Fly Fishing Lodge
Northern Yucatan Peninsula
Situated off the northeastern tip of the Yucatan Peninsula, Isla Holbox has managed
to avoid the “luxury resort” atmosphere that has become all too common around
Cancun. Remaining un-commercialized, travelers won’t find any fancy shops, overpriced
restaurants or wild nightclubs here. The people of Holbox are known for their casual, laidback lifestyle; it’s a place where time slows down and the stresses of life fade into the
background.
HOLBOX FLY FISHING LODGE offers world-class tarpon fishing in waters a mere 20
minutes away from the lodge, where large schools of migratory tarpon feed on abundant
schools of sardines. Available beginning in May, big tarpon fishing lasts through the
summer months and into September. Should the weather not cooperate for offshore
fishing, baby tarpon and snook can be found in good numbers in the island’s large lagoon.
The lodge is actually a five-bedroom villa located a few steps from the water’s edge on a
fantastic swimming beach. Taking a refreshing swim in the warm waters of the Caribbean
is always an option. The villa has a contemporary Mexican flair and accommodates up to
10 guests. All rooms are air-conditioned and have ceramic tile floors and large ensuite
bathrooms. A second story veranda overlooks the beach and offers a perfect setting to
relax and enjoy a cerveza after a great day of fishing. The sunsets you’ll witness from the
veranda are second to none.
Besides specializing in local seafood, the town’s restaurants have a strong
Italian and Argentinean influence — a great combination, and one we
are sure will please all members of your party. Lodge manager Luciano

Australia
Australia remains one of the world’s very best saltwater fisheries. Frontiers
works with the most accomplished captains, camps and lodges to provide our clients with
a wide variety of angling options from chasing marlin on the Barrier Reef for “Granders” to
“Baby Blacks” on a fly rod inside the reef to barramundi in the brackish waters of the Northern Territory to discovering the untouched remote waters of Western Australia.
Two camps that we recommend as examples of Australia’s vast Outback
with exceptional angling are SAL SALIS and BAMURRU PLAINS. Wild bush
luxury aptly describes what awaits at these two exceptional locations. Each
offers visitors the opportunity to explore this country’s remote wilderness
while enjoying comfortable accommodations designed to enhance the
experience, along with convenient access to outstanding fishing.
Sal Salis is an exclusive safari camp hidden in the sand dunes of Western
Australia’s Cape Range National Park. Tents set just behind the beach look
out to Ningaloo Reef, one of Australia’s best-kept natural secrets. There is
no end to the diverse activities for guests at Sal Salis, with sea kayaking,
snorkeling, coastal wildlife viewing, guided gorge walks and, of course,
fishing. Guests can chase giant trevally, three types of marlin and more than

Located just to the west of Kakadu National Park on the Mary River
floodplains, Bamurru Plains brings luxury to a remote and beautiful
wilderness. The design of the individual safari suites enables guests to
see the abundant floodplain wildlife on three sides from a relaxed setting.
Activities include airboat tours into the wetlands, birding, wildlife viewing
and fishing for one of the world’s great sport fish, the barramundi, which is
found in the river systems and the floodplain runoff. We invite you to come
to Bamurru and experience one of the most significant ecosystems
