Life has been a whirlwind of films, live gigs and children’s parties since our launch back in January... We have an action packed month ahead. We’re chuffed to bits to have clinched Best Exotic Marigold Hotel amongst many other box office hits we’re bringing back ‘Warhorse’ and ‘The Artist’. Juliet’s Chums Club has been a huge success; we can’t wait for more fun and games in March. The Regal has been rocking at our Sunday Sessions and Open Mic nights. Other screenings include our BAFTA night on Thursday 29th with a London wining 2012 Short Film followed by a Q&A session with one of the filmmakers, and of course we have our monthly themed dress up night which this month will be ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’. For those of you yet to visit, you need to come and see it, to ‘get it’. We are not a multiplex nor do we aspire to be. Some call it an experience, others call it luxury, we just call it The Regal. Whether you snuggle up on our love seats with a bottle of wine, our plush seats in the circle with a beer or a candlelight table of four downstairs with friends, we promise we will do our very best to look after you from the moment you walk up the steps to our beautiful Art Deco building until the moment you leave... Finally, a thank you all for your support and patience as we find our feet and try to become not just ‘a local cinema’, but one you all feel a part of and immensely proud to have in the town... After a speedboat accident leaves his wife in a coma and with doctors fearing the worst, Matt must try to reconnect with his two young daughters. But taking the patriarchal reins is much harder than he had ever anticipated. The Descendants is a deeply poignant and at times riotously funny story of loss and courage that marks a welcome return to the director’s chair for Alexander Payne. Cast: Benedict Cumberbatch, David Thewlis,Tom Hiddleston, Emily Watson, Jeremy Irvine, Peter Mullan. Director: Steven Spielberg. Cast: George Clooney, Matthew Lillard, Judy Greer. The detective duo prepare to face down their arch nemesis Professor James Moriarty. When the Crown Prince of Austria dies and Inspector Lestrade (Eddie Marsan) declares it was suicide, Holmes steps back to see the big picture. On the surface, this parallel reality is eerily similar to her real life and the people in it - only much better. But when this seemingly perfect world turns dangerous, and her other parents try to trap her forever, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness, determination and bravery to escape this increasingly perilous world and save her family. Cast: Dakota Fanning, Ian McShane, Teri Hatcher. Director: Henry Selick. www.theregal.ac (15) Duration 79 mins Wed 07 - Thurs 08 March Wed 07 Thurs 08 19:30 19:30 Two New York couples Nancy and Allan (Kate Winslet and Christoph Waltz) and Penelope and Michael (Jodie Foster and John C. Reilly) meet to discuss a fight between their children. In the ensuing conversation shot in real time, the masks slip after the initial civilised tête–a-tête, and the behaviour of the grown-ups is soon far worse than that of their children. A scathingly funny comedy of manners with a crisp script and taut direction, with performances from a great ensemble cast. Cast: Jodie Foster, Kate Winslet, Christoph Waltz, John C. Reilly. Director: Roman Polanski. www.theregal.ac (PG) Duration 100 mins Fri 09 - Thurs 15 March Fri 09 Sat 10 Mon 12 Thurs 15 14:00 18:00 19:30 14:00 19:30 The story takes us back to 1920s Hollywood, where movie icon George Valentin (Dujardin, Little White Lies) faces a career crisis as the advent of the talkies effectively signals the end of the silent era. To make matters worse, the girl he helped make into a star (Bejo) is about to become the “It” girl of her generation. Shot in black and white and virtually without dialogue, The Artist might sound like little more than a cute homage, but its wonderfully imaginative script and heartfelt lead performances will see it rank high on critics’ ‘best of lists in 2012’. Cast: Jean Dujardin, Berenice Bejo, John Goodman, James Cromwell. Director: Michel Hazanavicius. Box Office: 01386 421007 11 THE REGAL FILMS | March 2012 J. EDGAR Oscar Nominated (12A) Duration 146mins THE REGAL FILMS | March 2012 JASON & THE ARGONAUTS (U) Duration 104 mins Fri 09 March Fri 09 18:00 Clint Eastwood (Invictus) arrives with a taut political biopic about one of 20thcentury America’s most intriguing figures. Leonardo DiCaprio (Inception) offers a typically powerhouse performance as J. Edgar Hoover, the first and longest serving director of the FBI. As a fiercely admired yet widely feared figure of the American federal machine, Hoover’s reputation preceded him. It was his life behind closed doors, however, that attracted much media speculation and conjecture. Eastwood’s film seeks to unwrap the myth, shedding light on the man behind the name. Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Judi Dench, Josh Lucas, Armie Hammer, Ed Westwick, Damon Herriman. Director: Clint Eastwood. 12 Box Office: 01386 421007 Sat 10 March Sat 10 10:30 CHUMS CLUB To regain his rightful place on the throne of Thessaly, Jason must cross perilous seas to the land of Colchis to retrieve the fabled Golden Fleece. Until, that is, they discover that the fiend in question wouldn’t hurt a fly, and is supremely musically talented to boot. Now they must fight to defend the monster from those out to harm him, namely the city’s callous and ignorant police chief. Plenty of fun and laughs are to be had in this character-based, familyfriendly adventure. Cast: Vanessa Paradis, Adam Goldberg, Catherine O’Hara, Sean Lennon Director: Bibo Bergeron. www.theregal.ac THE WOMAN IN BLACK (12A) Duration 95 mins Fri 09 - Thurs 15 March Fri 09 Sat 10 Sun 11 Mon 12 Tues 13 Wed 14 Thurs 15 21:00 21:00 20:00 14:00 19:30 14:00 10:30 Based on Susan Hill’s acclaimed 1983 novel and the popular stage adaptation, The Woman In Black is a spine-tingling period horror. Arthur Kipps, a young London lawyer travels to a remote English village to straighten out the legal affairs of recently departed Alice Drablow. But this is a place of terrible evils, with missing children and suicide rife amongst the terrified locals. With a chilly, unsettling atmosphere and exquisite period detail, The Woman In Black is the year’s first essential horror. Cast: Daniel Radcliffe, Ciaran Hinds, Janet McTeer, Roger Allam Director: James Watkins. Box Office: 01386 421007 13 THE REGAL FILMS | March 2012 BOLSHOI: LE CORSAIRE THE REGAL FILMS | March 2012 GREAT EXPECTATIONS YOUNG ADULT Live Content (U) Duration 250 mins (PG) Sun 11 March Sun 11 15:00 A ballet in three acts based on a script by Jules-Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges, loosely based on the long poem by Lord Byron. Medora, a young Greek girl, is sold to Pasha by a slave dealer. The pirate Conrad seizes Medora and declares his love for her. But Conrad’s jealous right-handman sends Medora back to the slave dealer, who again sells her to Pasha... Duration 118 mins Tues 13 March Tues 13 14:00 Lean’s masterpiece may be a whirlwind tour of Dickens’ novel, but what a wellperformed, economical and atmospheric tour it is. This double Oscar winner is undoubtedly one of the finest Dickens adaptations. It is studded with memorable set-pieces, from young Pip’s hair-raising encounter with Magwitch in the graveyard to the eerie Gothic fantasy world of Miss Havisham. The Oscar-winning team of cinematographer Guy Green and production designer John Bryan bring the Victorian settings to vivid, indelible life. Cast: John Mills, Valerie Hobson, Bernard Miles, Martita Hunt, Alec Guinness Director: David Lean. 14 Box Office: 01386 421007 www.theregal.ac (15) Duration 94 mins Wed 14 March Wed 14 19:30 Charlize Theron dazzles in this edgy comedy of dysfunction. She is Mavis Gary, a thirtysomething Minnesota fiction writer who returns to her small-town roots following her divorce to steal back an old flame, who is married with kids. Mavis might have been the high school It girl, and she may still look a million bucks in a pair of stilettos, but right now she’s an emotional wreck, and it’s going to take a hard dose of social suicide and a heart-to-heart with a victim of the popularity game she once dominated before things can get better. The laughs are dark and the message unapologetically blunt. Cast: Charlize Theron, Patrick Wilson, Patton Oswalt, Elizabeth Reaser Director: Jason Reitman. www.theregal.ac BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL (12A) Duration 124 mins Fri 16 - Sat 22 March Fri 16 Sat 17 Sun 18 Mon 19 Tues 20 Wed 21 Thurs 22 14:00 18:00 18:00 14:00 14:00 14:00 10:30 18:00 19:30 19:30 14:00 For a desperate group of English pensioners, retirement takes an unconventional turn when they abandon their homeland, enticed by advertisements for The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, a seemingly luxurious sanctuary for “the elderly and beautiful” in Jaipur, India. On arrival, they discover the hotel falls somewhat short of the romantic idyll promised but they are gradually won over by the ever-optimistic manager Sonny, and embark on a new adventure, finding that life can begin again when you let go of the past. Hugo is an orphan living secretly in a big train station in 1930s Paris. Rome wasn’t built in a day, but we are doing all we can to make The Regal the best we possibly can.... Andy Martyr-Icke “In the 1970’s and 80’s the already somewhat dilapidated Regal instilled in me a love of film and Cinema. It was here that I fell in love with Tatum O’Neil in International Velvet, watched ET once a week for six weeks and left walking on and punching air after seeing Rocky. Like many people I never expected to see it open again and never really allowed myself to believe it would until the 21st January 2012. While it was a huge treat to go with my wife and children to the opening day Chum’s club and to attend the opening night celebrations, it wasn’t until the Monday after opening that the Regal and I became properly reacquainted. I went on my own to see “The Deep Blue Sea” and as I sat in my huge and hugely comfortable seat with a cold beer in hand watching a subtle, wonderfully acted film about 1950’s England on the immense screen, the hairs back of my neck stood on end as the magic of cinema hit me like never had in a soulless multiplex. 19-20 Vine Street Evesham www.wordofmouth.co.uk Chinese Restaurant & Takeaway The most authentic & quality Chinese food in town! The Regal isn’t just an asset and a success story for Evesham; it’s an asset and a success story for Film and Cinema in England and should be supported by everyone who has ever been entranced by the magic of Cinema.” Cherian Budd “Big thank you to the staff at The Regal. We came along last weekend and you made our night extra special. We pre-ordered a bottle of wine, this was already prepared and waiting for us upon arrival! The staff were really welcoming and friendly and as for the surroundings, well, they speak for themselves. It was all these extra touches that made our visit so special. We have been to several independent cinemas and I have to say, this is the best we have been to so far. Thank you again.” Ben Crowther “The Regal is back and better than ever thanks to the new coffee shop, the improved seating, not to mention the great staff!
