Attention
Chili Lovers!
we have a lot of fun in 92107!
Another time-honored tradition in
Ocean Beach, the annual Chili Cook-off
brings the finest chili (and their chefs) together
for an afternoon of beans and culinary delight.
Don’t miss your chance to sample (and judge)
the best chili SoCal has to offer! The Cook-off
will take place beginning at lOam (when the
tickets go on sale).
The actual tastings start at 11am in the grassy
area at the foot of Newport and Abbott and will
continue until the chili runs out (around 2:30 or
3pm). Awards presentation will take place around
3:30pm on the Main Stage. As a taster you have
a couple options: you may Purchase 2 individual
chili samples for $1.00 or a Peoples Choice ticket
to sample all the teams’ chili for just $10.
(Proceeds benefit the annual 4th of July fireworks
off the OB pier and beautification projects in OB.)
As a Peoples’ Choice judge, put your pallet to the
test! The official chili judges will judge based on
the following criteria:
• Consistency
• Taste-like chili
• Color-looks like chili
• Smells-good like chili
• Meat (if used) -tender
Also be on the look-out for the Hottest,
Best Decorated booth, Best 92107 Entry,
and the Most Spirited.
Also, don’t forget! If the booths run out of chili,
don’t despair! Shades Oceanfront Bistro is proud,
once again, to provide bowls of chili for the
community fundraiser at the Committee Chili
Booth inside the Cook-off area.
Dave’s secret recipe is one of the most popular,
and sells out fast! Don’t miss your once-a-year
chance to enjoy a bowl of delicious Shades chili!
$2 gets you a bowl of the fabulous chili!
Enjoy the beans, and come back next year!!

OCEAN BEACH MURAL PROJECT
OB local artist and activist Rich James began the
Mural project in 1999 as away to beautify OB and
instill a sense of community pride. Since then the
murals blossomed all over town and became a
fixture in our local landscape. Every year artists
of all types would gather at the annual street
fair to paint the individual mosaic-type squares
designed by Rich. After each street fair, Rich and
his friends would install the newest mural on the
wall of a local business for all to enjoy.
Sadly, Rich James passed away a month before
the 2008 mural project took place. His friends
stepped in to continue his legacy and designed
the 2008 mural in his honor. Please help us keep
Rich’s tradition alive and join us in painting the
2010 mural at the 31st Annual street fair.
Janis Ambrosiani has taken over designing the
murals each year and has done a fantastic job.
Last year’s mural was installed on Union Bank on
the wall as you enter their drive up.
Many thanks to
David Zedaker,
Zed Electric, for
the installation
of our 2009 mural.
He will be installing
our next mural, too.
