The Annual List. First issue of the year
means the list of issues from the previous
year. Three pages of fine print, with what
we know or have been told have come out
in 2013.
Consolidation and mergers. The BSA
has a plan to get down to below 250
councils.
The two Florida councils in
danger of being forced to merge
(Suwannee River Area and West Central
Florida) appear to be safe for another year.
North of the Florida-Georgia line, two of the
five Georgia councils that used to be in
Section S-4 (Alapaha in Valdosta,
Southwest Georgia in Albany) merged last
year to become South Georgia, based in
Valdosta. Now two more are merging
(Coastal Empire in Savannah, Okefenokee
Area in Waycross), to become “Coastal
Georgia Council” (the suggested new
name), to be based in Savannah.

Conference,
and
Goodman’s gravestone.
Echockotee
Lodge 200 is hosting the 2014 Section S-4
Conference, at Camp Shands. On the
Trading Post order form, the lodge is
offering an opportunity for organized trips
30 miles away to visit the gravestone of E.
Urner Goodman, the founder of the Order
of the Arrow. Cost of this trip (to take place
on
Saturday
morning,
during
the
Conference’s training program) is $15. Our
advice? Save your money, visit on your
own, before or after the conference, in a
respectful, dignified manner.
The
gravestone for he and his wife is located at
the
Penney
Retirement
Community
Cemetery, located on State Road 16 in
Penney Farms (between Starke and Green
Cove Springs).

NEW ISSUES
+ In the last four months, production has
been almost at a standstill. Thank goodness,
there is always O-Shot-Caw 265, who has
issues “at least” two new flaps. The lodge
created a special flap for the Lodge Leadership
Development event (F-38; not pictured), and
seven “prototypes” with a SMY border. They
have also released a new “regular issue” flap
(S-148).
And also the annual Lodge
Leadership Committee flap issued in
December (S-149); 200 made.
+ For being the host lodge of the 2013
Section Seminars, Timuquan 340 created a
host flap (S-64); 300 made.
+ Tipisa 326 was named the Best All
Around Lodge for 2013.
Along with the
previousl;y-shown celebratory flap, there is
also a CSP, issued with Central Florida
Council (X-27). These were made with a RED
border; another 15 CSPs were made with a
RED mylar border (X-28).
+ Two chapters from Tipisa have issued
a patch together: Kikape (X-6) and Nefketeh
(X-2). Mato Tanka Chapter had two patches
for their district’s 2013 Fall Camporee
(attendee, staff).
+ Seminole 85’s Allouchsit Chapter has
its own patch, for the 2014 Ordeal.
+ Echockotee 200’s Elemukulek Chapter
ran their district’s 2014 Camporee, and created
a pair of patches with the chapter’s name
(attendee, staff).
+ North Florida Council has two new
CSPs for 2014, for their FO$ campaign: full
color for contributors, and an all-black
monochrome for program presenters. The
council finished 2013 with two CSPs for their
WinterBlast long-term camping at the end of
December. In 2013, there were also new
CSPs for their NYLT program at Summer
Camp, and a 2013 Wood Badge Scholarship
program.
notes & asides
> Activity patch theme for Aal-Pa-Tah 237
for 2014 is “Comic Book Superheros”,
depicting the lodge gator totem as a comic
book character. Six weekend patches, plus a
year patch with all six designs, put together.
> The 2014 theme for Echockotee 200’s
activity patches is “Ceremonial Characters”,
with depictions on each of the four weekend
patches. No decision on a year patch.
> For Seminole 85, their 2014 activity
patches are depictions of tourist landmarks
within their geographical area. No year patch
to be made.
> Osceola 564’s theme for their 2014
activity patches is “Rock Concert”, with
depictions of guitars and other instruments for
each weekend event, put together in a puzzle
set.
> The 2013-2014 series for O-Shot-Caw
265 is depicting “State of Florida Flora and
Fauna” (designated official state plants and
animals).
> On February 6, a mixed lot that contained
an early merit badge sash, with 1920s era rank
badges (Tenderfoot through Eagle) and a
previously-unknown Eagle Scout medal with a
“drop” ribbon, sold for over $12,200. Still quite
a bit of speculation as to the authenticity of the
Eagle medal and its components (ribbon,
pendant).
> Section S-4 had planned on having
another “Four Corps” service project in the
Ocala National Forest this summer. This has
now been put off until 2016.
> Another Trade-O-Ree is planned for
Florida, this time for the first weekend in
October, in the Largo area. The promotional
flier is included in this issue.

THE RUMOR MILL
* As of February 15, still no word as to what
will be created for host items for the upcoming
2014 Section S-4 Conference, hosted by
Echockotee 200.
* Gulf Stream Council will be marking its
100th anniversary this year with the creation of
“something”, most likely just a CSP. So we
have been told.
* O-Shot-Caw 265 will be creating “service
corps” items for its members working non-lodge
events in 2014, specifically the South Florida
Council Scoutmaster Camporee and the
Coconut Grove Arts Festival.
MERGER MANIA 2014
> West Central Florida Council appears to
survive for another year, as most of the goals
have been met, and another provisional charter
has been issued for 2014.
> Suwannee River Area Council Is reported
to have met all of their mandated goals except
one (membership). Charter review is to take
place in March.
> Just to the north, Okefenokee Area Council
(Brunswick) and Coastal Empire Council
(Savannah) have been in discussions since late
December 2013, for a possible merger, into an
expanded “Coastal Georgia Council”.
The
merger is reported to be official on March 1, with
Pilthlako Lodge 229 merging at the end of 2014.
> Perhaps this is jumping ahead, but the
recent mergers in Georgia,, does lead to some
observations. Pilthlako 229 and Withlacoochee
Lodge (formed from the merger of Alapaha 545
and Immokalee 353) are in Section S-8, along
with most of Georgia and eastern-central
Alabama (11 lodges). Tomo Ci-chi Lodge 119
in Savannah is in Section S-5, with much of
South Carolina, western North Carolina, and
northeast Georgia. (11 lodges) Is it time for a
realignment of the sections in the Southern
Region in a few years?
