Welcome to the TOMS Movement
The TOMS Story
In 2006, American traveler Blake Mycoskie
befriended children in a village in Argentina
and found they had no shoes to protect their
feet. Wanting to help, he created TOMS, a
company that would match every pair of
shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes
given to a child in need. One for One.™
Five years later, TOMS realized this
movement could serve other basic needs
and launched TOMS Eyewear. With every
pair purchased, TOMS will help give sight to
a person in need. One for One.™ As more
everyday choices have the power to impact
the lives of those around the world, the
TOMS movement will continue to grow and
evolve. Join us at TOMS.com

Why Shoes?
Many children in developing countries grow up without shoes.
Whether at play, doing chores or going to school, these children
are at risk:
• A leading cause of disease in developing countries is soiltransmitted diseases, which can penetrate the skin through
bare feet. Wearing shoes can help prevent these d iseases,
and the long-term physical and cognitive harm they cause.
• Wearing shoes also prevents feet from getting cuts and sores.
Not only are these injuries painful, they also are d angerous
when wound s become infected .
• Often, children can’t attend school barefoot because shoes
are a required part of their uniform. If they don’t have shoes,
they d on’t go to school. If they d on’t receive an ed ucation,
they d on’t have the opportunity to realize their potential.

One Day Without Shoes
The annual day we go without
shoes so kids don’t have to.
Why?
Millions of children live without shoes. Many are not
allowed to attend school. They are exposed to injury and
disease every day, and shoes are a critical resource for
health, education, and fulfilling their potential. Spreading
awareness is easy, and changes lives.
What Can You Do?
Just take ‘em off, and when people ask why, tell them.
Register at OneDayWithoutShoes.com to get updates
and resources.
Just a Few Ideas:
Simply add “without shoes” to whatever you already love
doing together, e.g. hike without shoes, lunch without
shoes, dance without shoes, play without shoes, rehearse
without shoes, speak in public without shoes, ride without
shoes, craft without shoes, entertain without shoes…
