SEPTEMBER TOM MCCONVILLE TURANDOT Tom ‘the Newcastle Fiddler’ is a legend of the folk club and festival circuit. He has appeared at Spalding Folk Club regularly over the years, sometimes solo and sometimes in collaboration with the likes of Kieran Halpin and Dab Hand. He is loved as much for his singing as for his distinctive fiddle playing and funny stories. Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour has become an annual highlight of the global arts calendar. This year it’s the Puccini classic Turandot produced as a jaw-dropping outdoor water-stage performance and featuring an incredible version of Nessun Dorma sung by Riccardo Massi. The only Briton to win the London International Piano Competition and a prize-winner at the Leeds Piano Competition, Ashley has made numerous recordings and performed in major concert halls worldwide as soloist, chamber musician and with leading orchestras including the gala concert held in Buckingham Palace for the Queen’s Golden Jubilee. The West End’s recent smash arrives in Spalding for the first time. The inspiring, uplifting and true story of the women of Ford Dagenham in 1968 is a hilarious tale which is just as relevant today.
