Introduction The ILI6128B is a 1200-channel output source driver with TTL interface timing controller (TCON). The ILI6128B supports dual-gate mode to extend the source channel and expand the available options of resolution applications. The interface uses a digital 24-bit parallel RGB input format. The TCON generates the 800x480 and 800x600 resolutions that provide horizontal and vertical control timing to the source driver and gate driver. It uses the dithering technique applied the source driver with 6-bit DAC to support 8-bit resolution and 256 gray scales. Operating parameters can be set via pin control for all features. The output circuit of this source driver incorporates an operational amplifier with low power dissipation, and supports a wide voltage supply range and small output deviation. The ILI6128B can be configured using dual-gate operation mode for reducing the amount of FPC and lowering cost. CABC (Content Adaptive Brightness Control) ILI6128B provides a dynamic backlight control function as CABC (Content adaptive brightness control) to reduce the power consumption of the luminance source. ILI6128B will refer the gray scale content of display image to output a PWM waveform to LED driver for backlight brightness control. Content adaptation means that the content of gray sale can be increased while simultaneously lowering brightness of the backlight to achieve the same perceived brightness. The adjusted gray level scale and thus the power consumption reduction depend on the content of the image. The CABC function can be turned ON/OFF via external pin as CABC_EN and also can be configured by software commands via SPI mode for performance optimization. IL6128B can calculate the backlight brightness level and send a PWM pulse to LED driver via CABC_EN pin for backlight brightness control purpose. Power ON/OFF Sequence 11.1. Normal mode power on/ off To prevent device damage from latch up, the power ON/OFF sequence shown below must be followed. Standby ON/OFF Control The ILI6128B supports Standby mode to save power consumption, the source driver will turn off and all source output channels will be Hi-Z state when the chip is in Standby mode. The BIST Patterns for Aging Mode Test The ILI6128B supports a function to generate BIST patterns for aging mode test automatically. When the external BIST pin goes “H” level, then the ILI6128B will leave Normal operation mode and starts to generate the BIST patterns to LCD panel without an external clock signal. The Command Format for 3-line Serial Interface The ILI6128B uses the 3-line serial port as the communication interface for all the commands and parameters of the CABC function. This 3-line serial communication is bi-directional controlled by the “R/W” bit in address field. Under read mode, the 3-line engine in the ILI6128B will return the data during the “Data phase”. The returned data should be latched at the rising edge of SCL by an external controller. Data in the “Hi-Z phase” is ignored by 3-line engine during write operation, and should be ignored during read operation also. During read operation, the external controller should float the SDA pin under “Hi-Z phase” and “Data phase”. Each Read/Write operation should be exactly 17 bits. To prevent incorrect setting of the internal register any write operation with more or less than 17 bits of data during a CSB Low period will be ignored by the 3-line engine.
