27. An Honor, 1957 Château Mouton Rothschild.
What an honor to be part of this dinner for 10 featuring a 1957 jeroboam of Chateau Mouton Rothschild
in the original crate, the most marvelous wine of France and possibly the world! From a tannic and tough
vintage (read: long lived), this is likely just beginning to shed its muscularity a bit.
The Rothschild talent for marketing and innovation resulted in the wine industry’s first high-profile label
design program. Starting in 1945 the chateau has each year commissioned a famous artist to design the
label. The list of contributors includes Salvador Dali, Joan Miro, Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol, and tonight
for the 1957 label, André Masson, a French painter, draughtsman, printmaker and stage designer. His work
played an important role in the development of both Surrealism and Abstract Expressionism, although his
independence, iconoclasm and abrupt stylistic transitions make him difficult to classify.
Invite 9 of your friends to enjoy this especially large bottle of Mouton while dining with Mary Ann, Lucy and
Tom alongside an excellent dinner prepared by Chef Erling Jensen in the exquisite Lee home. The winner,
his nine guests and our hosts will gather on a mutually-agreeable date.

32. Inspired by Music, Milisa Valliere Art
Captivated by the sounds of Bach, Billie Holiday, Radiohead, Jimi Hendrix and tonight, U2, Valliere has turned
her canvases into visual interpretations of melodies and expressions of intense emotion. As this exhibition
would be incomplete without sound, guests will have the opportunity to hear the music that is inspiring the
painting tonight.
“I find inspiration in everything, especially life,” said Valliere when explaining her creative process. “I notice
the good, the bad, the beautiful, the ugly. Once you develop the art of noticing, all in the world is canvasworthy.” All the world, and all the sound as well. Professing that she hears music in color, Milisa said her
recent series Inspired by Music simply translates the emotion of music into a different medium.
With the help of Roland, who is the president and CEO of the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, Valliere
scouts her next source of inspiration by first choosing a memorable moment in history that relates to
the current calendar day—usually a musician’s birthday, death day, or album release. A corresponding song
is then selected. Sometimes it is performed by the inspirer or, other times, it simply reflects the inspirer’s
legacy.

Vintage port is an acquired taste, and since so many of us have done just that, why not make the acquisition

vintages of the late twentieth century, two of them from 1977 are arguably the best vintage of the last half
of the 20th century. These types of Port offering are very rare indeed.

introduction).

Kick off your shoes, put your toes in the sand, breath in warm sea air, and let the ocean breezes carry your
worries away—that is, if you’re the lucky winner of this stay at Marsh Oaks, a three-bedroom house located
on Tybee Island. This home sleeps six comfortably, and features beautiful vistas of bird-filled marshland from
the solarium and living room. A wonderful private deck is great for relaxing after a day on Tybee’s white
sand beaches—which lie just two blocks away.

the warm, gentle waves of the Atlantic. Or take a kayak tour from Tybee Island through tidal creeks to
Little Tybee—a nature preserve of coastal salt marshes, pristine beaches, and lush subtropical forests.

41. Black Cassidy Mega-tasting! 2002 Burgundy
Every year the two Toms conspire to pull truly special bottles out of their cellars, present them alongside
a magnificent dinner prepared by one of the best chefs the city has to offer, and host the event in an
unforgettable setting.
In the past they’ve focused on lengthy verticals of legendary wines like Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion or
extensive collections of Grand Cru burgundies from negociants like Domaine Rousseau in Burgundy.
This year, the lucky twelve bidders who garner Dutch-auction seats for this signature event tonight will
have the opportunity to be dazzled by the wines of upwards of 20 different Burgundy chateaux, all
representatives of the 2002 vintage on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Erling Jensen The Restaurant
See what the fuss is about by bidding early and often for a seat at this very special tasting. The two Toms
will round up the usual suspects, so expect to find the First Growths and their peers at this event, not to
mention the surprises they always bring to this tasting. Usually, attendees throw more goodies into the
pot, so the sky’s probably the limit as regards to how many 2002s will actually appear on the table. And of
course, since the Toms’ generosity well exceeds even their wine knowledge, aperitif wines, fine champagne,
brilliant whites and dessert wines will likely appear on your table as well!
And let’s not forget dinner, a four-course meal prepared by perhaps the finest chef in Memphis!
Bid early, bid often, and bid boldly, knowing it’s all for the Brooks! Shared pours
welcome, but such bidders will be assessed a $100 surcharge tonight to cover additional
food costs.

Youth Education Programs
Tonight, you have the opportunity to provide vital support for many of the Brooks’s diverse Youth Education
programs. We ask that you raise your paddle in support of the outreach programs below. By making even a small
donation, you will directly assist the youth of our community, as the Brooks strives to transform lives through the
power of art.
Art and the Basic Curriculum (ABC), now in its thirty-fourth consecutive year, provides creative,
museum-based art education for fourth graders in local Title I Elementary Schools. The multiple-visit program
takes place both in the classroom and at the museum, giving students—many of whom have no dedicated art
instructor—a grounding in the visual arts while providing teachers with training on how to incorporate art into their
standard academic curriculum.
Community Days allow families and friends to experience the museum in a fun, engaging environment. These
free events feature art-making activities, events like storytelling in the galleries, musical and dance performances, and
family-oriented gallery guides, all designed to engage families with current exhibitions.
Our free Wacky Wednesday program provides a creative outlet during the summer for families, day
camps, and child care centers with an open artworks studio, gallery guides, and children’s international short films
every Wednesday in June and July.
And all year round our free school tour program opens up the world of art to students from all over the area, with
docent-led tours focusing on the collection and special exhibitions, studio art projects designed to instill creativity
and create meaningful connections to the collection, and curriculum guides so that teachers have the resources to
continue the learning experience once the children leave the museum.
