August Mary Faith Chmiel - Elizabeth Public Library
August 2016 We say farewell… On Friday, July29, the Elizabeth Public Library staff and trustees wished a fond farewell to Assistant Library Director Monica Eppinger. Ms. Eppinger, as she was called by staff and the public, served almost ten years as assistant director, starting in November 2006, under Dorothy Key. Main library 11 South Broad Street, (908-354-6060) Monday - Thursday: 9:00 AM-9:00 PM Friday: 10:00 AM - 9:00 PM Saturday: 9:00 AM -5 :00 PM During her time with EPL, Ms. Eppinger was instrumental in the development of our computer network and infrastructure, and through her work on E-rate funding was able to secure the funds that have allowed our network to grow. Ms. Eppinger helped to initiate the Fall Concert Series, which has brought a diverse array of performers, from the NJSO to Kean University students, to our Library. Monica Eppinger will have been a familiar face at many of our outreach activities, including the annual Earth Day cleanup, JulyFest and National Night Out. You will have seen her collecting email addresses for our newsletter distribution; helping young children create windsocks and other crafts; and offering information on the library’s many services and opportunities. Elmora Branch 740 W. Grand St. (908- 353-4820) Monday, Wednesday: 9:00 AM-9:00 PM Tuesday, Thursday: 9:00AM - 5:00PM Friday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Saturday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Sunday 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM While we are saddened to see Monica leave, we are thrilled at the new opportunity before her, as director of the Woodbridge Public Library. Please join me in congratulating her! Mary Faith Chmiel Library Director Community Garden Update LaCorte Branch 418-424 Palmer St. (908-469-1866) Monday, Wednesday, 9:00AM - 5:00PM Tuesday, Thursday, : 12:00 AM - 8PM Friday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Saturday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM E-Port Branch 102-110 3rd ST (3rd ST & E Jersey Ave.) (908-289-9032) Monday, Wednesday: 12:00 - 8:00 PM Tuesday, Thursday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Friday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Saturday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Our community garden at Elmora is thriving! Thanks especially to our “Head Gardeners,” Tracy Robinson, Carolyn Rapisaldo and Sheila O’Brien. These staff members ensure that the garden is sufficiently watered every day, and Tracy and her team of teen volunteers control weeds, clip dead leaves, and apply our sophisticated animal repellant (hot sauce!) to the produce. Tomato cages have been handmade and purchased, but we welcome the donation of these and other supplies from the community. Thus far, our harvest has consisted of hot peppers, but we anticipate an imminent crop of bell peppers and eggplant, along with herbs. Any teens wishing to volunteers should contact Tracy at [email protected]; adults should contact Robert Barbanell at 908-353-4820.
