Annual Report 2015
Dear Friends of HomeAid Houston,
HomeAid Houston, a charity sponsored by the Greater Houston Builders Association, is one of
16 chapters of the national organization, HomeAid. As the nation’s largest provider of
transitional housing for the homeless, HomeAid has completed over 400 projects, providing
beds for more than 225,000 homeless men, women and children in the United States.
With the mission to build new lives for homeless families and individuals through housing and
community outreach, HomeAid Houston was established in 2003 to work with Houston
homeless care providers to build and renovate transformational shelters. By partnering with
GHBA builders, remodelers, developers and suppliers, HomeAid Houston is able to effectively
multiply the impact of gifts provided by generous donors.

Our major new construction and remodeling projects continue to operate with a 30 - 50%
donation rate and our HomeAid Care projects are showing donation rates of better than
50%.

FUNDRAISING
Our four ongoing fundraising projects - The
Ninth Annual Charity Golf Tournament
“Driving Out Homelessness,” Project
Playhouse, our HALO luncheon and Corks
for a Cause - were extremely successful
in terms of generating proceeds, creating
awareness and having fun!
Gross proceeds from the golf tournament
were slightly under budget, at $64,251,
while Highland Homes’ Project Playhouse
“hit a home run” with $83,400 in gross
proceeds. Our HALO luncheon, hosted by
GHBA CEO Toy Wood, grossed $77,570,
which represents a 22% increase over last
year’s event, and the fourth year of our
“Corks for a Cause” fundraiser at the
Associates Council Barbeque Cook Off
raised $11,400, a slight increase over last
year.
2015 was another banner year for our
public relations efforts, with HomeAid
being featured on radio and
television. Our print coverage continued
to grow, with almost weekly mentions in
the HOME section of the Houston
Chronicle, our monthly two page article in
the Houston Builder magazine and periodic
mentions in the Houston Business
Journal. In addition, articles about
HomeAid appeared in various local
community newspapers, websites,
magazines and in the quarterly Texas
Association of Builders’ publication Texas
Builder.
2015 saw the continuation and growth of
our fundraising initiative, “HomeAid
Heroes”. This program enables builders,
developers, real estate agents and
associates to rally behind HAH, as they
committed to donate a specific amount
per home sale, lot sale or product
sale. During the fourth year of “Heroes,”
HomeAid raised $ 65,800, representing a
28% increase over 2014.
OUTFRONT Media kept three billboards,
created by On Target! Marketing and
Advertising Agency and BrivicMedia, in
rotation for us throughout 2015 in various
locations. Our relationship with OUTFRONT
yielded even greater results, as we offered
billboard sponsorships for Project
Playhouse and the annual Charity Golf
Tournament and we were able to honor
our Builder Captain, Partners in Building,
with “thank you” billboards.
The GHBA’s Benefit Homes Project gave
significant gifts to HomeAid in 2015,
thanks to builder/developer teams
Castletree Homes and Land Tejas
Companies, Ltd. and Perry Homes and the
Howard Hughes Corporation / Bridgeland.
Regarding grant writing, HomeAid
continues to see significant income from
grant and foundation activity, raising
$101,550 in 2015, a 55% increase over
2014.
A major addition to HomeAid’s community
outreach was the continuation of the
Picture This project, created and curated
by our Director of Public Relations, Terry
Swenson. Terry’s vision has been to
provide disposable cameras to the
homeless and ask them to photograph
their world. In 2015, we focused on
revealing the world of homeless
youth. The results were stunning, as we
showcased exhibits from clients of Angel
Reach, Grace Place, Montgomery County
Youth Services and Covenant House.
HALO
HomeAid’s relationship with the Houston
Astros continued to flourish in 2015, with
our playhouse constructed by Highland
Homes, showcased at Minute Maid Park for
eighteen home games in the summer and
projected on the Astros’ Jumbotron before
the games. We were pleased to have been
invited back to Minute Maid Park for 2016
and beyond.
