Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Authentic Durango Stone™
1. Why do people prefer a honed finish rather than a polished finish?
Lower maintenance! Polished materials require professional refinishing often to keep the polished
appearance whereas a honed and filled finish, after sealing, requires extremely low maintenance.
2. Does Authentic Durango Stone™ need to be sealed?
We recommend sealing all natural stone materials. Especially porous stones like travertine and
limestone. Check with your sealer supplier for application details. A high quality “impregnating”
sealer should be used.
3. How often do I re-seal the floor?
This really depends on the usage and lifestyle of the owner. Typically, under normal conditions,
once every 2 to 3 years is adequate. Check with your sealer supplier for their recommendations.
4. Are subterranean holes prevalent?
Authentic Durango Stone™ is travertine and has small voids throughout the deposit. Some voids
are not visible due to a thin membrane of stone covering the subterranean hole. Often, these
unknown subterranean holes will be exposed after installation through normal usage, during the first 3
to 6 months of ownership. Providing buyers with a small amount of un-sanded grout and a copy of the
Care and Repair information will prepare them to repair the holes themselves, and not have to wait for
the installer to come out. (Care and Repair information is available upon request)
5. How do you maintain the floor on a daily basis?
Most owners of Authentic Durango Stone™ floors find that dusting or sweeping is fine most of the
time, with spot cleaning. When necessary, use a good quality pH Neutral Cleaning solution,
manufactured for travertine or limestone floors is recommended. (Care and Repair information is
available upon request)
6. Is Authentic Durango Stone™ consistent in color range from one order to the next?
Because Authentic Durango Stone™ is natural and quarried from the earth, color variations are a
feature of the stone. We always recommend that buyers purchase a few additional tiles for long term
storage to cover a repair or replacement of a tile.
7. What do I do if the material gets scratched?
Most minor scratches on honed travertine can be removed by the owner by simply sanding them out
with 400-grit wet/dry sand paper, using water and light pressure in circular motions. For scratches
that cannot be removed this way, consult a professional in your area.

8. What is the typical size of grout joints with Authentic Durango Stone™?
In today’s market place, with honed and filled tiles, a 1/16” to 1/8” grout line is typical. Using a grout
joint smaller than 1/8” makes it more difficult for the installer to get sanded grout to make contact
with the sides of tiles and the substrate. Patterns typically have a 3/16” grout joint.
9. How do I prevent stains?
We know of no sealants that actually make stone stain proof. The best sealers on the market are very
good at making the stone, stain resistant -not stain proof. Acidic materials such as wine, citrus juice,
vinegar, household cleaners, etc. cause the most staining problems because these items stain by
etching the sealer or by actually penetrating the sealer. If the stone has severe stains, consult a
professional in your area.
10. Should it be “pre-sealed” before grouting?
This is dependent on several factors. One major consideration is whether or not a pigmented
(colored) grout is being used. If grout with color (i.e. gray, browns, reds, greens, etc.), it is highly
recommended that a pre-sealing grout application be applied. Authentic Durango Stone™ is porous
and light in color. Therefore, it is highly probable that a richly colored grout will stain tiles that have
not been pre-sealed.
Remember when pre-sealing occurs on the finished surface, a chemical coating is now on the stone
and it becomes imperative that a latex modified setting material and latex modified grout be used to
enhance the bonding. Typically, light colored grouts similar to the color of the stone are used. If light
colored grouts are used, no pre-sealing is required.
11. Is the “fill” popping out of my stone?
No. The fill does not come out of the stone. Although you will hear clients swear to you that it is the
fill, it is really just a subterranean hole being exposed. If the client is made aware of the fact that
during the first few months after the installation, some number of voids will be exposed...this should
not be an issue.
12. What is “run of quarry”?
Occasionally, we get a request for a large number of tiles to be produced within a certain period of
time. Due to the nature of the request, and the unknown issues regarding natural stone, it is
impossible to "color select" large quantities of stone. Therefore, in order to meet the needs of the
customer, we offer to produce the jobs in "run of quarry." This is a common term used to denote
that there will be NO color selection from the quarry blocks produced for the job. "Run of quarry"
clearly defined means; whatever we cut is what you get.
13. Are other companies licensed to use our trademarked names?
No. World Wide Stone Corporation™ has no licensing agreements with any entities, regarding
the use of our trademarked names. If you have any questions regarding Authentic Durango Stone™
products, Please feel free to contact us.

“We Build Partnerships on Foundations of Stone”™
©World Wide Stone Corporation™
Authentic Durango Stone™ is a fully metamorphosed travertine, known universally as
some of the densest, finest material of its kind in the world. Starting with a dense stone,
combined with strict production parameters and precision engineering, we create a
beautiful, durable and low maintenance product. We offer quality at the highest standards
possible!
Quality, What Does This Mean?
We offer a 1mm eased edge bevel on all of our and Old World Honed™ tiles. This
prevents the edges from chipping during and after installation. Our bevel is consistent on
all four sides and will not vary in thickness. A cut stone edge is sharp. The beveled edge
eliminates that issue. Only the best quarriers and producers offer this treatment.
Our resin filled Old World Honed™ finish is unparalleled in the dimensional stone
industry. Proper honing cost much more than just removing the saw marks, it literally
closes the millions of micro holes that cover the surface of every metamorphic stone,
including travertine. Yes these are the holes you cannot see without a microscope.
When the holes are closed they cannot fill with dirt as all those other manufacturers do.
Properly honed tile is easy to clean and looks much better from the day it is installed and
more, as it is used and gets soiled from use. Ours cleans due to the micro holes being
closed during our triple hone process. No other factory makes this expense for quality.
We offer color-coordinated resin fill on all of our Filled and Old World Honed™ tiles.
This compliments the natural range of shading that is inherent in natural stone products.
Resin takes the same finish as the stone. Resin is superior to cement.
Our large format tiles and slabs are produced in our Factory #3. This state-of-the-art
facility offers a field-color-matching-resin fill on all large format tiles and slabs. We are
the only supplier with factories in Mexico to offer this high grade of fill to our clients.
We also are the only supplier in Mexico to back-fill all of our filled tiles products, which
ensures the back of our finished products are as strong as their faces. This allows for an
even bond to the substrate during installation and greater durability.
We color select our tiles. We offer several types of selections to provide the customer
with a better fit for their home or project, consistently. You will receive what is widely
considered the range for the color selection you choose.

Features and Benefits of Authentic Durango Ancient™ Truly Tumbled™ Products
Quality Raw Materials: Authentic Durango Stone™ is the hardest, densest travertine ever discovered
in the history of the world. We never use explosives to surgically extract the block from its quarries, which
helps to prevent the stone from fracturing. Starting with quality raw materials helps to create a much
higher quality end product, designed to last lifetimes!
Proprietary Tumbling Process – Truly Tumbled™: One of the greatest differentiators of our tumbled
material is that it is Truly Tumbled™. We call this proprietary, realistically-aged finish Authentic Durango
Ancient™, or Truly Tumbled™. By Truly Tumbled™, we mean that this stone tile, literally, has the look
of 200 years of aging. Our process, which mechanically ages the stone to look like it was recovered from
a gracious European chateau or a castle, actually closes the microscopic holes on the stone surface,
making this finish very cleanable and durable. This produces a stone that is “fully conditioned” and with
proper, minimal maintenance, will not break down and create traffic patterns like so many inferior stone
products will.
In addition, Authentic Durango Ancient™ Truly Tumbled™ tiles, just like the Honed and Filled tiles, are
carefully cut to thickness, and each tile has correctly „square. corners – every time. The Truly Tumbled™
tiles are also hand-selected for colorations to be within the specific coloration range offered, as well.
Virtually, all competitor products actually have a light honing – just enough to grind the saw marks off the
surface, and they acid-wash the tile, usually soaking the tile in an acid bath, which weakens the stone.
Then, they randomly hand-grind the edges to make the tile look worn. This process does not close the
microscopic holes and produces a faux look in a weakened tile body. Typically, they are not tumbled, and
they don’t even look tumbled.
Calibrated Dimensions: The state-of-the-art Italian machinery and equipment used to produce
Authentic Durango Stone™ is calibrated, at least, four times per day. This means the factory keeps very
tight control over the manufacturing tolerances used to create the stone products, creating an end product
that is consistent in size and has perfectly square corners every time. Authentic Durango Stone™ is a
dream for installers and helps to create much quicker and cleaner installations, making possible perfect
grout joints alignment every time. Fewer cuts save time and money, as well. Many, if not most of
Authentic Durango Stone™ “competitors” do not do these things, so they commonly deliver tiles that are
fractured, out-of-square, poorly finished and, sometimes, not even installable.
Hand-Selection for Colorations: Every Authentic Durango Stone™ product is hand-selected for
colorations to fall within a specified coloration range. Although color variations are a normal feature of
natural stone products, this hand-selection process will help to insure that you receive a consistency of
"coloration range" within your product selection. Experience has shown that, with most products originating
from Turkey, you get whatever comes out of the block without selection, whether you like it or not.

Features and Benefits of Authentic Durango Stone™ Honed and Filled (HF) Products
Quality Raw Materials: Authentic Durango Stone™ is the hardest, densest travertine ever discovered in the
history of the world. We never use explosives to surgically extract its block from the quarries, which helps to
prevent the stone from fracturing. Starting with quality raw materials helps to create a much higher quality end
product, designed to last lifetimes!
Superior Honing and Filling Processes: Authentic Durango Stone™ Honed and Filled tiles and slabs are
double-honed and resin filled four times, using only the finest Italian machinery. We put 10,000 pounds of pressure
on the stone, while honing it, densifying the surface and closing all of the microscopic holes. This makes for a much
smoother and cleanable surface, designed to last a lifetime! We also use color-matching fill, so that the fill more
consistently blends in with the natural color of the body of the stone, producing a superior look and finish.
Just compare Authentic Durango Stone™ products with the “competition,” and you will see a huge difference in
the look and feel. Proper honing makes all of the difference in the world; this is why Authentic Durango Stone™
will look the same as it does the day it is installed, 50 years later. You will experience a lifetime of satisfaction with
Authentic Durango Stone™ products!
Floor refinishing companies make a fortune from consumers who have bought poor quality travertine, simply
because the material is not properly honed. Over time (usually a fairly short time), it simply becomes un-cleanable
and develops traffic patterns from the material surface breaking down.
It is ironic that Authentic Durango Stone™ is usually priced slightly higher, but in the long-run, will actually cost
the customer less to own – the simple difference of price verses cost. Remember, too, that the price of the stone is
usually about half of the cost of the installation. The installer must be paid for his time, setting materials, sealing,
clean-up and profit, as well. The initial, slightly higher price difference of Authentic Durango Stone™ is a small
fraction of the total cost of your customer’s project!
Calibrated Dimensions: The state-of-the-art Italian machinery and equipment used to produce Authentic
Durango Stone™ is calibrated, at least, four times per day. This means the factory keeps very tight control over the
manufacturing tolerances used to create the stone products, creating an end product that is consistent in size and
has perfectly square corners every time. Authentic Durango Stone™ is a dream for installers and helps to create
much quicker and cleaner installations, making possible perfect grout joints alignment every time. Fewer cuts save
time and money, as well. Many, if not most of Authentic Durango Stone™ “competitors” do not do these things,
so they commonly deliver tiles that are fractured, out-of-square, poorly finished and, sometimes, not even installable.
Micro-Beveled Edge: Authentic Durango Stone™ uses the highest standard, 1 millimeter (1 mm), micro-beveled
edge on all of its honed and filled products. This makes for a much smoother and cleaner finish, because there are no
chipped or sharp edges on the stone. If you look at less expensive stone products, they notoriously have multiple
chips on the edges of their tiles, and the edges are very sharp.
Hand-Selection for Colorations: Every Authentic Durango Stone™ product is hand-selected for colorations to
fall within a specified coloration range. Although color variations are a normal feature of natural stone products, this
hand-selection process will help to insure that you receive a consistency of "coloration range" within your product
selection. Experience has shown that, with most products originating from Turkey, you get whatever comes out of
the block without selection whether you like it or not.
