Did You Know…
Bourbon is America's only native spirit. And almost all bourbon—
95% according to the Kentucky Distillers Association — is
produced in Kentucky. Discover Kentucky’s unique bourbon
heritage by traveling the world famous Kentucky Bourbon Trail
and enjoy eight unique bourbon distilleries.
Horses produce more revenue for the state than any other
agricultural product. Visitors can explore the many facets of the
area’s horse industry at a variety of attractions from the Kentucky
Horse Park to Keeneland to private farm tours and riding stables.
Of the more than 10,000 military actions of the Civil War, 453
took place in Kentucky, more than in Alabama, North Carolina,
South Carolina or Maryland.
Not only were Abraham Lincoln and Confederate President
Jefferson Davis both born in Kentucky (less than one year and 100
miles apart), but both spent time in Lexington. Davis attended
Transylvania University in 1823 and 1824. Lincoln visited the city
several times with his wife, Mary Todd, after their marriage in
1842.
The Bluegrass Region is home to Berea, the folk arts and crafts
capital in Kentucky. Enjoy Old Town Artisans Village, complete
with working studios, craft shops, and the Kentucky Artisan
Center, which celebrates the accomplishments of Kentucky
artisans, both traditional and contemporary.
There was actually a famous Thoroughbred race horse and stallion
called Lexington (1850 to 1875). He still leads the sire list as
producing the most champions for 16 years during his career, 14
consecutive. He is credited with establishing the Bluegrass Region
as the breeding center of the United States.
