What a wonderful crowd of Glass Odyssey Members and a prospective member too. The
food was simply fantastic. Crab, smoked salmon, bacon wrapped beef, BBQ meat balls,
deviled eggs, cheese galore, veggies, crunchies, cakes, munchies, and more…. No one
went away hungry. A special treat was the coconut macaroons David made. Such a
wonderful group of Corvette owners. This was Allysa’s fourth event and is now eligible for
membership at our January meeting. The camaraderie was so much fun, and so were the
stories too. Then it happened … The famous gift exchange started with many oohs and
ahhhs and a couple of wows too! It started out nice and easy and then, yes then, the
stealing began. It was so funny watching our members look over the opened gifts and
start stealing, which was part of the game. Cherlene, seemed to get right into the spirit and
that started others stealing, and Mary K was not to be left out and had her eye on a Sea
Hawks “Russell Wilson” number “3” jersey and did not hesitate to steal it right out of
Drake’s hand… Ida and Christine were so lucky, as they picked some of the best gifts and
people drooled over their tools (wrenches and screw drivers). Lots of laughter and smiles.

Message from the President
President’s Message – January, 2016:
It is the Christmas season and time to give thanks. Thanks to all those who helped
Trenna and me move to 943 West Camden Court in Sequim. Thanks to Larry and Ida
for helping get all our vehicles up here into our garage.
Thanks to Cassandra Cooley and Pat Faber for visiting with Trenna while we were
moving and a number of you offered additional help services. Sequim is Trenna’s
hometown and I’m hoping that over the next few months she will get reacquainted
with her history. There is a family contingent up here who are helping make the move
easier.
More Thank You’s: Thanks to Drake and Becky for the great Christmas party, and
thanks to all the Executive board members for dedicating their time and resources to
keeping the club rolling this year.

“Banner” of the Month for December
We had no volunteers to submit a write-up and photos of their cars for this month’s “Corvette of the Month”
Feature, So, instead, I elected to put up a photo of our GOCC Banner, flying in the breeze outside the
National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY. Many thanks to David and DeeDee Ellingson (pictured
with our banner) for sending in this photo!
Let’s hope we get some cars volunteered for next month’s “Corvette of the Month” Feature.

Winter Fuel Economy
Thanks to David Ellingson
Over the years, you may have noted that your car uses
significantly more gasoline in cold weather than in the
summer months. Here are some tips on making the most of
winter driving.
On older engines, a heat riser uses the hot exhaust to
preheat air entering the carburetor. Typically there is a heat
riser attached to the exhaust manifold to run the exhaust
gases through the intake manifold under the carburetor or a
steel box attached to the exhaust manifold and a pipe ("preheater hose") running from the box to the air cleaner inlet.
With all the speculation about a possible mid-engine Corvette
finally becoming a reality, General Motors has thrown a curve at
the rumor mill. According to Chris Doan Automotive, GM recently
filed two trademarks (numbers 86850510 and 86850500) that
have fueled speculation the company is considering some type of
an electrified version of the Corvette.
One of those trademarks is for “Corvette E-Ray,” which most
people assume would be used as the name of an electric
Corvette. Of course, the filing could just be a preventative
measure to keep someone else from using the name. On the
other hand, other automakers are reportedly working on
electrified sports cars, including Nissan, BMW, Porsche, Acura,
and Tesla.
The market quite likely would be there for an electric Corvette,
pure or hybrid version, especially if it can deliver the out-of-theballpark performance numbers that have already been unearthed
by Tesla.
Speculation of an Electric Corvette Grows After GM Trademarks
'Corvette E-Ray' Some websites speculate that a Corvette E-Ray
would first be shown as a concept car, perhaps at an event such
as the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the
next of which begins Jan. 11, 2016.
Regardless, don’t you just know that Chevrolet is sitting back and
loving the free publicity it’s getting right now for the Corvette?
As Corvette Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter has been quoted as
saying: “We left everything on the playing field with the Z06; we
didn’t leave performance headroom for a ZR1.”
Sounds like a move to a different kind of powerplant or
architecture might be the only answer to make a better Corvette.
Or as Tadge also said recently: “We don’t talk about future
product, I’m sorry. Eventually all will be revealed.”
Still, the enthusiasts can’t wait!
A carburetor delivers the same amount of gasoline whether
the incoming air is hot and thin or cold and dense. Heat risers
help optimize the correct fuel/air ratio by ensuring the
incoming air is within a set temperature range.
Most fuel injection systems do not need pre-warmed
incoming air. Air charge temperature, manifold absolute
pressure (MAP), mass air flow and other sensors tell the
engine computer how dense the incoming air is. The
flow/density of air coupled with fuel injector on/off cycles
(pulse width) that are adjusted continuously, maintain the
optimum fuel/air mixture. Fuel injectors operate at high
pressure so the gasoline can be properly vaporized even at
colder temperatures.
What has a big impact on a fuel injected engine's winter fuel
economy is how quickly the engine warms up to operating
temperature and moves from "open loop" to "closed loop"
operation. Engines are usually in open loop mode when they
are started cold or during unique events such as wide open
throttle (a favorite of most Corvette owners!). Open loop
means the fuel/air system runs using a constant set of
parameters already stored in the engine computer.
Closed loop mode means the computer is now getting
feedback from the oxygen sensor(s). If an O2 sensor
indicates the fuel/air mixture is too rich or too lean then the
computer immediately adjusts the fuel injector pulse width.
The fuel injector pulse width might be twice as long in open
loop mode compared to the average pulse width in closed
loop mode. Open loop mode often uses more gasoline than
is necessary and fuel economy and emissions suffer.
Here are some of the parts that should be questioned if an
engine is slow to warm up and enter the fuel efficient closed
loop mode:
Is an old thermostat allowing cold engine coolant to circulate
through the radiator before the engine has reached operating
temperature? Is a failing coolant temperature sensor slow to
tell the computer the engine is warm? Has an oxygen sensor
become sluggish or is its internal heater broken?

NWACC New Autocross Rules – Continued
#4
Add new rule:
Smoking is prohibited anywhere on the event site. This includes
vapor e-cigarettes and similar products.
Reason: Because the Inactive Runway at Sanderson Field is
surrounded by grass, it would be easy for a fire to start because of a
cigarette being carelessly tossed on the ground. In fact, our
contract with the Port specifies no smoking anywhere on Port of
Shelton properties.
NWACC Report – Next meeting Feb 6 at the Corvette & High
Performance Meet in Puyallup, WA.
Motion made and seconded to approve all rule changes.
Motion carried.

2016 Rules-Change Proposals for
NWACC Autocross-specific events
The following 4 proposals are submitted to clarify, revise, add and/or
delete existing rules within the Speed Events Policies and Procedures
section of the NWACC Competition Code. Current operational
procedures at NWACC autocross events are incorporated into this
section. Clubs should discuss and vote on each proposal as individual
items. Submitted by George Schwartz, Chair, NWACC Autocross

Section A – General Requirements
Each month, scattered throughout the pages of our newsletter,
are articles meant for your input, offering an invitation to you,
dear reader, to become an active participant in this magazine.
There are any number of ways to get your car, your thoughts or
both onto these pages. In the interest of making it as easy as
possible for you to join in the fun, I thought it might be helpful to
run down a list of all the avenues we offer.
Readers’ Replies: We’re always interested in your thoughts
about the Newsletter: Email the editor, listed on page 1.
Corvette of The Month: This is where we invite you to share
your passion for your car with your fellow enthusiasts. All we
need are one or two high-resolution photos of your car (or
collection of cars), and a little background from you on the
experience of owning the car—how long you’ve had it, where you
found it, what you’ve done to it and what you love about it.
Trip or Event: Do you have a great story about a trip or event
you participated in, it might be a good candidate for a one-page
feature.
#1
Delete:
Rule 11 - While making a timed run, if a driver comes upon a pylon that
is knocked down, he/she must stop and return to the start for a rerun.
Reason: All reruns are now made at the end of each run group. The
driver is notified if he/she is entitled to a rerun. Rule 13 already defines
this procedure.
Tech Talk: If you’ discovered a missing piece of automotive
history, or have some wisdom about operating or maintaining
Corvettes, this is the place to come to.
#2
Change:
Current Rule 15 – There will be a maximum of two drivers of the same
sex per car with a maximum of 3 drivers per car (excluding exhibition
drivers)
Revised Rule 15 – There will be a maximum of 3 drivers per car.
Reason: No real reason to specify a limitation of sex of drivers.
For Sale: Got something you want to sell? Let us know.
Vett-Trivia: Have a little-known fact about Corvettes?
Send it in to the Editor. Maybe we’ll print it!
Got a suggestion or a comment? Email the Editor or put it up
on our Facebook page.
Hidden Number: Yes! There IS a hidden number somewhere
in this issue! Find it and, if it is your membership number, claim
first pick at the next meeting’s raffle table! It might be in a photo
or somewhere in the text.

Thank you to Dave and Deedee Ellingson for hosting
the Thanksgiving Day dinner at the Airport Diner.
Everyone had a ball!
Mike Fisher has spent over 60 years on this spinning ball of dirt
and in those many years he’s figured out one truth about
himself, he likes stuff that’s fast. Fast boats, fast bikes, and most
of all fast cars. Which brings us to his current ride: a 2008 C6
Z06. Mike has wanted a Z06 since he first spied a C5 version,
so it didn’t take much persuading from his son Brandon to talk
him into buying the ’08. “He pushed me to build the Punisher
into what it is today. He went to all of the car events and drag
races; he was my team and he also helped with a lot of the
custom installs, from the chassis to the ground effects,” recalled
Mike.
The Corvette was found on Craigslist in May 2011 and it had a
scant 1,826 miles on the clock. The Corvette didn’t have a
scratch and was so pristine that the owner wouldn’t even let
Mike sit in it or take it for a test drive. Mike relayed, “I made an
offer and he wouldn’t bite, so I left my phone number and
walked away. Two days later he called and accepted my offer.
That’s when it all started.”
The plan called for fast, so the area that got the most attention
was the engine. The 427 LS7 was pulled and while the shortblock was left stock, it was topped with a set of high-flowing

duration (at 0.050), 0.691/0.702-in. lift, 112-LSA camshaft that
really upped the LS7’s power output and gave it an especially
gnarly exhaust note.
Other changes to the engine included upgraded COMP
trunnions for the 1.8 ratio GM rockers, a FAST LSXr 102mm
intake, Nick Williams 102mm throttle body, MSD wires, and
Dynatech headers with off-road X-pipes. But more air and a big
cam can only take you so far, so Mike had Terry Murphy Race

hefty shot of nitrous.

Alzheimer's is a disease that attacks the brain. It is the most common
form of dementia. Dementia is a general term for a decline in mental
ability severe enough to interfere with daily life. If you or a loved one
have concerns about memory loss or other symptoms of Alzheimer's or
a related dementia, it is important to be evaluated by a physician.
Stages show how the disease unfolds, but progression will vary greatly
from person to person. There are medications available to help ease
symptoms.

From the Editor
It’s kind of difficult to get back to reality after a holiday on
Maui, but I’m doing the best I can. The first task was to
face up to the fact that Christmas was falling fast upon me
and that I’d better get my little buns out there and do some
shopping. The second fact was that I had a Newsletter to write and edit. All this
in the matter of just a few days post-paradise!
The high point of this last month was clearly the holiday get-together at Drake
and Becky Evans’ home on December 12th. From what I’ve heard, the giftexchange (um…legalized theft) was hot and heavy with both some losers and
winners.
Our General Meeting is January 7th at 7:00 pm after a pre-meeting dinner at
Red Robin. And lest you forget, there’s also a Progressive Brunch coming up
on Saturday, January 16 that I know we’ll all be up for! Finally, don’t lose sight
of our Charity of the Month, the Alzheimer’s Association of Washington State.
This charity [potentially and for real] affects all of us so it is one of great
importance!

Aftermarket tuning offers a seemingly endless range of

even in the slightest bit, what’s perhaps the greatest,
