ELITE RODEO ATHLETES,
A NEW “ERA” IN PRO RODEO
Early in 2015, the top rodeo athletes in the world created Elite Rodeo Athletes (ERA), determined to elevate
the world of professional rodeo.
Since then, they have announced their 2016 ERA Premier Tour will consist of 15 events in eight host cities
across the U.S. on the organization’s inaugural tour, which will feature 87 of the top rodeo athletes in the
world, representing more than 130 world titles. The ERA tour will be the only place “Where the Biggest
Names in Rodeo Come to Ride.”
Each night’s payouts are estimated to exceed $100,000, providing the live audience with a one-of-a-kind
high-stakes environment unique to ERA events.
In fact, the regular season will be a “Championship Race to Dallas,” where rodeo athletes will compete
for $1.6 million in prize money with the tour culminating in a World Championship event, November 9-13,
2016 in Dallas at the American Airlines Center. ERA Athletes will battle for an additional $3 million, a total
of $4.6 million in payouts across the entire tour.
The entire season and World Championship will be aired on Fox Sports 2, with more than 42 hours of
programming, giving ERA the largest household network audience in professional rodeo.
ERA will
“ beThemore
of a
LEAGUE OF CHAMPIONS
professional sport,
which will be great
for the fans to watch.
The entire season
will be on Fox Sports,
and you can get
behind your favorite
cowboy or cowgirl,
and they will be easy
and fun to follow.
“
- CLAY TRYAN
The idea was simple — to create a stage for the best rodeo talent on Earth to compete event after event in
a “League of Champions,” making each event a much watch for rodeo fans. The tour roster consists of the
most decorated group of professional rodeo contestants.
Casey Martin, ERA Steer Wrestler gave ERA fans a promise for the inaugural season. “With this kind of
lineup, it’s hard to pick one individual who will be the biggest competitor. They are all very talented guys
and they’ll all give 110% every time they nod their head.” Jake Barnes, 7-time World Champion Header,
chimed in as he surveyed the field, “This competition is going to be like watching and competing against
the best of the best at every rodeo.”
WHAT TO EXPECT
ERA puts special emphasis on the fans, allowing them to pull back the curtain on their favorite
rodeo superstars with special behind-the-scenes content. Fans will want to come early to tour events to
get an autograph during the pre show meet and greet with ERA athletes in the arena.
Trevor Brazile, a 23-time World Champion Cowboy and ERA athlete also detailed how this revolutionary
new company could change rodeo forever. “By introducing a unique concept like the ERA, it’s our hope to
increase the awareness of the sport on a national stage,” Brazile said. “Enhancing the sport of professional
rodeo and building something greater for future generations of rodeo cowboys and cowgirls is our goal. We
look forward to working with the entire industry.”
For the first time, professional rodeo has a vehicle, which will allow it to showcase the sport and its superstars
most effectively, resulting in a wider reach for the sport. It’s what the rodeo world has waited for.

CHAMPIONSHIP RACE TO DALLAS
ELITE RODEO ATHLETES SIGNS
FIVE-YEAR AGREEMENT TO HOLD
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IN DALLAS
Multi-Million Dollar Agreement Signed to host the ERA World Championship
at the American Airlines Center
The Elite Rodeo Athletes (ERA), an innovative new rodeo corporation created and owned by the top
rodeo athletes in the world, is proud to announce the signing of a five-year partnership with the
Dallas Sports Commission and the City of Dallas to bring its World Championship to Dallas.
“It was felt that rodeo needed an elite tour comprised of only the world’s best rodeo competitors
and livestock,” said Tony Garritano, CEO and President of the ERA. “Because of its business model,
the ERA is the only rodeo organization that can truly guarantee appearances of the top talent in
professional rodeo. Created by the contestants, they
are guaranteeing themselves. Thanks to the City
of Dallas, the new ERA tour will have a tremendous
home for its World Championship.”
With a mission of ensuring the integrity of the sport
of rodeo and to provide additional opportunities
for professional rodeo cowboys and cowgirls and
industry partners, the ERA plans to work in cooperation
with industry partners to create a tour that will showcase the best talent in professional rodeo.
“World championship rodeo is coming home to the state of Texas and the city of Dallas,” said
Phillip J. Jones, President and CEO of the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Big wins happen
here in Dallas and we look forward to sharing our great city with rodeo fans from around the world.”
“By introducing a unique concept like the ERA, it is our hope to increase the awareness of the sport
of rodeo overall” says 23-time World Champion Cowboy and ERA Board Member, Trevor Brazile.
“Enhancing the sport of professional rodeo and helping to build something greater for the future
generation rodeo cowboy and cowgirl is the goal of the ERA. We look forward to working with the
entire rodeo industry.”
The ERA is very proud that its World Championship event will be hosted by the City of Dallas.
Along with the Dallas Sports Commission, Dallas has agreed to a five-year, multi-million dollar
agreement with the ERA. The inaugural ERA World Championship event is scheduled to take place
at the American Airlines Center, November 9-13, 2016. The annual event will award a payout
in excess of $3 million over a 5-day annual competition—making this first World Championship
event the second-largest payout in the history of professional rodeo.
“The American Airlines Center is thrilled to be hosting the ERA World Championship beginning in
2016,” said Dave Brown, Vice President and General Manager of the arena. “We look forward to
the great atmosphere created by rodeo fans as the top rodeo athletes compete in Dallas.”
“The Dallas Sports Commission is committed to bringing great sporting events to the city of
8
www.ERARodeo.com
Dallas,” said Monica Paul, Executive Director of
the Dallas Sports Commission. “The ERA World
Championship is the type of event that will have a
positive economic impact and raise the profile of
Dallas as a premier sports destination.”
Governed by a seven-member board that
consists of three roughstock
representatives, three timed
event representatives and one
administrative official, the
organization will showcase the
best cowboys and cowgirls,
whose eligibility to compete
will be determined by the ERA
qualification system, which will begin later this year.
“The ERA is delighted that the City of Dallas and the
Dallas Sports Commission believes in the vision of
the ERA, creating a meaningful regular-season tour
spotlighting the stars of professional rodeo. We
look forward to working with Dallas in showcasing
this wonderful city and providing the fans a great
Championship event,” said Bobby Mote, fourtime World Champion Bareback Rider and ERA
Board Member.
In 2016, the ERA will produce a 15 event
regular-season tour, all broadcast FOX Sports 2,
culminating with its 5-day World Championship
event Nov. 9-13, 2016 in Dallas.
“We are excited about building our 2016 season
and plan to increase the number of tour stops in
the years to come. The ERA has its own set of
regulations, allowing us to provide very unique
opportunities for the entire rodeo industry,”
states Garritano.

Rodeo in Dallas
The rodeo community holds a special place in Dallas’ heart, and competition has become a longstanding tradition in the
original home of the World Series of Rodeo. In December 1959, fans turned on their televisions to watch the first ever
National Finals Rodeo held at the Texas State Fair. The event was a success and remained in Dallas until it was moved to
Los Angeles in 1962, eventually finding its home in Las Vegas.
Although the NFR was no longer in Dallas, rodeo was still very much alive and well within the city. Neal Gay founded the
Mesquite Championship Rodeo that was thriving by 1970. By the mid-1980s, the Rodeo was being broadcast on ESPN
and eventually moved to Fox Sports Southwest. To this day, the Mesquite Championship Rodeo is the most televised rodeo
in the world. In the summer of 1983, the Texas Gay Rodeo Association was founded and put on its first event in November
1984. Part of the International Gay Rodeo Association, the TGRA holds an annual spring Rodeo in the DFW area which has
become the most popular competition on the tour. In 1988 the Inaugural Texas Black Invitational Rodeo took place at Fair
Park. The rodeo just completed its twenty-seventh competition this past spring. All three of these rodeo organizations are
still current and active in the Dallas community, and along with several youth rodeos, they have helped pave the way for
Dallas to become an important staple in the rodeo community.
Dallas began to host larger, more national rodeo events when the PBR hosted a Built Ford Tough Series bull riding event at
the American Airlines Center annually between 2005 and 2009, and in 2014 Stephen Jones, COO of the Dallas Cowboys,
Dr. Robert Cluck, Mayor of Arlington, Randy Bernard, CEO and President of Rural Media, Jim Haworth, Chairman and CEO
of Professional Bull Riders, and a multitude of professional cowboys announced the formation of The American Rodeo to be
held annually at AT&T Stadium. This event has the largest single-day purse in all of rodeo equaling $2 million. Dallas has
become a top destination for the rodeo community and has an exciting future ahead.
The Elite Rodeo Association’s World Championships is slated to begin in November 2016, bringing Dallas right back to
where it all began: hosting a world championship. The history of rodeo in Dallas is a diverse and exciting one and the Elite
Rodeo Association will continue to help shape that history for years to come.

We asked Brazile what he enjoys to do outside of rodeo, he said, “Right now it is playing sports with my kids and watching them

growing up is fun.” His hobbies include hunting, fishing, playing softball and training horses.
TREVOR BRAZILE Q&A
Q: What do you want the fans to know most about ERA?
A: We will not ever know what rodeo’s full potential is until we bring something to the public that gives rodeo a chance to be a real
sports property. I don’t think rodeo has ever known it’s full potential, and that is what we are out there trying to do. Our goal is to
make the sport thrive and not decline.
Q: What do you hope is different about the ERA based on a fan’s perspective?
A: Fans will be able to consistently see their favorite cowboys on Fox Sports and during the regular season. They don’t just get to
watch a culmination, but the entire journey.
Q:Tell us about the Fox Sports television partnership and why it is important?
A: It is important for fans, sponsors and future generations of cowboys to bring rodeo to a platform that showcases the elite athlete’s
talents on a national stage.

CHANDLER BOWNDS, Professional Bull Rider has competed professionally since 2011. He is a young athlete, who is known for having “ice water in his veins.”
Bownds is an exceptional athlete who is a fierce competitor in the arena, but is known for his easy going and fun personality outside of the arena. According to KCBD, his
bull riding career all started with an adrenaline rush he first had 15 years ago. “I started riding steers at the age of 10 years old at a guy named Lyndal Hurt’s house right
outside in Slaton,” Bownds said. “I was like, ‘Heck, I might as well try this out and get on’.” We asked him what he thinks about before jumping in the chute he said, “Well
as a Bull Rider, I want to be aggressive and know that I am about to conquer the animal that I draw.”
Like most bull riders, Bownds has experienced his share of close calls and major injuries. KCBD reported, “He was stepped on by a bull, I think broke four ribs, cracked six
vertebrates and collapsed a lung and spent two nights in the hospital,” Woody (his Father) said, “Janci (his mother) went in there and touched him on the face and said,
‘Are we done?’ and he said, ‘Mom, don’t ever ask me that again’.” It’s that never say die attitude that makes him a fearless rider and puts him at the top of the leader board.
He is predicted by many bull riding fans to be the athlete to watch in the bull riding.
Bownds was born and raised in Lubbock, Texas. His hobbies include hanging out with friends, cooking out, hunting and playing golf.

never took it to a professional level. It's what I've always wanted to do and I started by riding calves and steers at a very young age.” Asay went through the same steps
as anyone else looking to pursue a rodeo career. He started with calf riding, steer riding, and then on to the professional level.
Asay has come a long way from his days riding calves. Now a world-renowned bull rider, he is one of the most talked about on the roster. The ERA Premier Tour will be
the stage of his comeback story, as he had a rough summer run with two separate injuries last year. On June 27, 2015 at the Reno Rodeo, Asay was stepped on by a bull
ripping his ear two-thirds of the way off. He was taken by ambulance to the emergency room where he had reconstructive surgery to his ear, requiring 200+ stitches, an
overnight hospital visit, plus several follow-ups. Just a few short months later on August 20th, Asay was knocked unconscious for nearly 10 minutes on his reride bull in
Canby, OR. He was taken by ambulance and then life flighted to a hospital in Portland, OR. Amazingly, his only injuries were a concussion and a sprained neck.
He is known for having a deep faith in God and a wonderful family. Asay lives in Powell, Wyoming with his wife and their two children. His hobbies include playing golf,

The ERA brings a unique format to the sport of rodeo, allowing fans

event, champions are not limited to the human athletes, but fans will be
awestruck by watching the equine and bovine athletes that have put

cowgirls themselves to raise the bar on the level of competition. Fourtime World Champion Bareback Rider, Kaycee Feild, said “The ERA is
all about brining fans the best rodeo experience, which also includes
the top animal athletes in the sport. Pairing the best athletes on the

Tommy Joe Lucia, ERA Chief Operating Officer and Director
of Animal Athletes said, “The ERA is not just a group of elite
cowboys and cowgirls. They are also compromised of select elite animal athletes from across the nation. Some of
these animals have a value of over 500,000 dollars each
and love to compete just like the cowboys and cowgirls.”
THE ROUGH STOCK ATHLETES

over $600,000 in her career. To top it
off, Babyflo received a top honor when
she became a Breyer Horse model last
year. Taylor’s little red mare is known for
pinning her ears back when she runs and
flies around the pattern. This duo is fascinating to watch as Taylor rides with a

Babyflo is the star and she is just the pilot
--- it’s all about Babyflo.

and Monty Lewis’ horse, Squirrel, are
by the famed Brazilian stallion, Popular
Resort Figure, who will be the only sire to
see two of his offspring go head to head
under different riders in world class ERA
tie-down roping competition.
PART OF THE FAMILY
ERA athletes contribute much of their
World Class Tie-Down Roper, Matt Shiozawa, riding Grey Pony
success to their animal partners. Most ERA participants spend more time on the rodeo road
with their animals than they do at home. Their animal teammates become just as much a part
of their family as their real families.
Tamika Graves, ERA Athlete Travis Graves’ wife commented on their horse, “Manny is the
reason Travis gets to do what he loves everyday. We consider Manny part of the family.”
The love doesn’t stop there, two-time Reserve World Champion Tie-down Roper and ERA
athlete, Matt Shiozawa’s all-around horse, Grey Pony is important to his entire family, but
especially his daughter, Stella.
“Stella learned to ride on Grey Pony so she adopted him. He’s gentle enough to be around
kids,” Shiozawa said.
All Stars. All the time. The ERA is proud to present these amazing animal athletes and more at
