
Autism is a lifelong disability with no known cure.

Volunteer of the Year Award
Dominick Comisse
Dominick Comisse recently graduated from Goshen High School.
He has been an extraordinary supporter to Parents Run AMOC
over the last nine years. He has used his unique and personal
perspective as an individual who lives with an Autism Spectrum
Disorder to help spread awareness, understanding, acceptance
and tolerance to the greater community about autism and
related disorders.
Dominick has spoken on several occasions to the Orange County
Legislature to help proclaim April as Autism Awareness Month,
bring the entire assembly to their feet in a standing ovation each
time. His message to the community has been positive, but
truthful about the struggles of a person living with autism. For
the last two years, he has also spoken at the Orange County
Runner’s Club to gain the club’s support for Parents Run AMOC’s
5K race “ Hustle for the Puzzle”. In March of this year, there was
not a dry eye in the room when Dominick concluded his remarks.
Dominick also supports Parents Run AMOC by attending all
fundraiser events and helping in a variety of capacities, including
breakfast preparation, running errands, carrying the American
Flag for the 1 mile walk, interacting with children in a Sponge Bob
costume and much more. It would be difficult to find a more
deserving person to receive the 2012 Parents Run AMOC
Volunteer of the Year Award and the very 1st MHA James A.
Lagarde, Sr. Volunteer of the Year Award.
Parents Run AMOC would like to express our extreme gratitude
to Dominick for his assistance and dedication. Congratulations
Dominick in this well deserved recognition.
Parents Run AMOC
(Autism Move-a-thon of Orange County)
Community Service Award
Orange County Hare Raisers
The Orange County Hare Raisers is an animal science club for
youth ages 7 to 18 run by 4-H under the direction of the Cornell
University Cooperative Extension-Orange County. Members of
the Hare Raisers primarily learn about the care of rabbits, but
also focus on community service, leadership development,
education, and fundraising for their club.
The members of the Orange County Hare Raisers have been an
unwavering supporter of Parents Run AMOC. Representatives
from the club have attended and volunteered at the Autism
Move-a-thon for the last nine years. Each year, several
members of their group bring their pet rabbits to share with all
of the participants at the move-a-thon. Many of the children
present are on the autism spectrum and the volunteers
patiently show them how to properly handle, pet, and interact
with their rabbits. For many participants, this may be the first
time they are exposed to a smaller animal. The club also
provides a calm, nurturing place for many participants to take a
break during the exciting day.
Parents Run AMOC would like to express their sincerest
gratitude to the members of the Orange County Hare Raisers for
the invaluable service they have provided to the Autism
Move-a-thon each year. They are very deserving of the 2012
Parents Run AMOC Community Service Award. We look
forward to a continued partnership with this extraordinary club
for many more years to come.

Community Service Award
Florida Fire Department
The Florida Fire Department in Florida, New York provides fire
protection, rescue operations and fire safety education to their
community. The department has embraced the importance of
fire safety education by developing fun and innovative ways of
teaching these important concepts to the children in their fire
district. They have a fire truck robot that talks to the children
about fire safety as well as the importance of having an exit plan
for their home. They also have built their own model of a house
that is on fire so that the children can use a fire hose to “put the
fire out”. This is not only a great way to teach about the dangers
of fire but also a way of sparking an interest as a career.
The Florida Fire Department has graciously shared these wonderful tools with Parents Run AMOC for the last 4 years. They
bring to the Move-a-thon the robot, model house, fire safety
education material, and those wonderful fire helmets that all the
children love to take home. They patiently allow participants to
talk to the robot and put the fire out over and over again. They
have embraced the autism community as their own and have
taught us about the importance of fire safety as well as how to
have a good time.
Parents Run AMOC would like to express our deepest gratitude
to the Florida Fire Department for coming to the Move-a-thon
year after year and extend sincere congratulations on being
awarded the 2012 Parents Run AMOC Community Service
Award.
Parents Run AMOC would
like to extend our sincerest
gratitude to the Castle for
participating in our giant
