New Zealand is a destination that is on everyone’s
‘bucket list’. The pure rivers, stunning scenery,
friendly and positive ‘can do’ attitude of the people
are all bonuses to the world-class hunting and
fishing that we have to offer.
Best Hunting Experience available
The harvesting of magnificent trophies is definitely
a part of what we do but equally as important is the
hunting experience and at Wilderness Quest NZ
we major on experiencing the journey that each
hunt takes us on to secure a fine trophy at the end.
The best hunts are not always easy and there may
be hardships along the way but these make that
defining moment of success even sweeter and more
memorable.
In addition to the best of New Zealand’s trophy
hunting we also offer:
• Private & exclusive accommodation in beautiful
secluded locations
• The best meals on the planet! Our chefs work
tirelessly to provide the finest in wild game cuisine
and home cooking. You will be amazed!
• From our fair-chase game-rich hunting areas to the
remote wilderness alpine camps we can give each
hunter the hunting challenge that they desire.
• Our guides are friendly, professional and
personally skilled in every aspect of your hunt. They
have a detailed knowledge of the game animals and
also your chosen hunting method. From the time
your guide picks you up at the airport until you
depart he will give you the very best of service.
• For those in your group that do not hunt we have
an excellent range of other activities.
This is YOUR HUNT
At Wilderness Quest New Zealand we value the
individuality of each hunter so we customize each
hunt to the capabilities and goals of our hunter. Your
hunt is for the very best of New Zealand’s game
animals and we aim to make each hunt your ‘hunt
of a lifetime’. We have had successful hunts with the
widest range of hunters possible, from all ages, first
time hunters, hunters with bows, muzzleloaders,
crossbow or rifle.
Private & Exclusive
This private and exclusive hunting experience is the
perfect place where you can feel free to bring your
family to share the excitement of your hunting trip.
There are plenty of activities for non-hunters to do
and with our location on the beautiful Haupiri River
this hunting camp has everything that you could
wish for.
You deserve the Best
We know the time, effort and investment that each
hunter has put into their hunting trip and it is
only fair that we provide the best service and care
possible. We do not claim to be the biggest outfitter
in New Zealand, nor would we ever want to be
that type of operation. What we offer our clients is
a personalized hunting experience that will allow
them to hunt the best of what New Zealand has to
offer in the privacy of their own hunting party.

opportunity contact us today.

Red Stag
The mist clings to the valley floor and a gentle
breeze touches your face as you stalk carefully
through the ghostly silhouette of ancient rainforest.
The damp vegetation bends quietly beneath your
feet as you draw closer to your quarry with each
calculated step. Suddenly the morning stillness is
shattered by a deep roar from the old stag, a sound
so powerful and primeval in origin that it sends a
tingle of excitement down your spine. THE HUNT
IS ON!
At Wilderness Quest New Zealand we have a
distinct advantage with our Red Stag hunting
because we rigourously control and manage our
hunting access and herd quality so we now have
some of the best Red Stags in New Zealand.
New Zealand is a sub-tropical island paradise
abundant with rich vegetation and completely
absent of large predators. It is no surprise that New
Zealand is now known as the place to hunt the
world’s best Red Stag trophies.
The first footprints of Red Stags in New Zealand
were back in 1851 and since that time they have
flourished into what we have today.
With a liveweight of only 350 – 500 pounds the Red
Stags of New Zealand grow the largest antlers of any
animal in the world for their body size.
Red Stags can be hunted from February to August
with the Rut being March to mid-May. During the
Rut the Red Stags ‘roar’ and challenge each other for
dominance.

Himalayan Tahr
The iconic outline of a mature bull tahr silhouetted
on a high rocky bluff is not to be soon forgotten by
the hunter as he toils closer with each step. The old
bull stands high and proud as he surveys his alpine
domain, the wind blowing through his long mane
brings every scent from the steep slopes below.
Himalayan tahr are one of the most sought
after alpine trophies in the world and we have
worked long and hard to provide the ultimate
hunting experience for these amazing animals.
Tahr are nimble and fleet of foot and prefer the
mountainous rocky steep bluffs to easier terrain
below.
Originally from the mountains of the Himalayas
they adapted well to the Southern Alps of New
Zealand and we now have the best huntable
population of Tahr in the World.
At Wilderness Quest we have the widest range of
hunting options available for our hunters based on
their personal preferences and capabilities. Our
hunting options range from the most prestigious
and famous tahr hunting private properties in
New Zealand to the wildest and most remote of all
tahr hunting areas, the West Coast wilderness.
8 yr old Jocelyn, hunting with Grandpa
Our tahr hunts are on foot and for our West Coast
wilderness hunts we access our spike camp by
helicopter. This allows us to hunt these magnificent
animals in the beauty and serenity of their alpine
home, undisturbed by the influences of man.
Our guides are very experienced at hunting tahr
and over the years we have had a very high success
rate harvesting top quality trophies including the
current World Record #1 Himalayan Tahr taken in
2012 on wilderness land.
The tahr rut is from May to July and the best time
to hunt tahr in their long winter coats is from April
through August.
The quest for a trophy bull tahr is the highlight of
the trip for many of our hunters.

Chamois
The agile and graceful chamois was
originally from Europe and is one of
the more challenging of New Zealand’s
trophies to hunt successfully. Their keen
eyes and nimble feet whisk them far away
from danger at a moment’s notice.
Chamois can be hunted all year round
but during the rut is the best time when
their lush dark winter coat is at its best.
Peter & Sarah Remington - Colorado
We hunt chamois from March through
August and the rut is May/June. Chamois
make a fine trophy and are a worthy
game animal to pursue.
Fallow Buck
The unique palmated antlers and vivid coloration of
their coats make a Fallow Buck a handsome addition to
your trophy hunt. Introduced from Europe, they have
spread through much of New Zealand and are now
well established.
Dan & She
ila Boyd -
During the rut their call is a very distinctive croak and
bucks fight very aggressively, sometimes to the death.
The rut is April/May and we hunt these pretty deer
from mid-February through August.
Michigan
NZ Wapiti/Elk
The largest of our deer species and originally a gift
from US President Teddy Roosevelt, the New Zealand
Elk or Wapiti is an excellent addition to your trophy
hunt.
Being closely related to Red Deer has allowed
interbreeding which has resulted in very few, if any,
purebred Elk remaining in the wild herds. We have
hunts available for majestic Elk bulls in our game
estates and this is a great opportunity to hunt one of
these fine trophies.
Tom Fisher - Wisconsin
The Elk rut is from early March through to May but
these bulls can be hunted from mid-February to
August.
Asian Water Buffalo
There are limited numbers of Asian Water Buffalo in
New Zealand and we have one of the best huntable
herds available. These are an impressive trophy and can
be hunted at any time of the year.

Arapawa Ram
Arapawa Sheep originated from a fine-wooled breed of
merino sheep from Europe. Liberated onto Arapawa
Island at the top of the South Island as food for returning
whalers and sealers they soon adapted well to their
surroundings. Easily distinguished by their large curled
horns these hardy rams are an attractive trophy animal.
Feral Goats
Robert & Colby - Nice Ram!
Feral goats range in size and color and are now
widespread through New Zealand. A large billy will make
an interesting addition to your hunt. Feral goats can be
hunted all year round.
Other Hunts
Hunts for Sika, Sambar and Rusa are also available.
These species are hunted in the North Island only.
We also do small game hunts for European Hares and
Possums at night, with spotlights off the back of a 4X4
truck.

Water Fowl Hunting
We have excellent waterfowl hunting due to
our close proximity to Lake Haupiri and the
Haupiri River.
There are large numbers of Pukeko, Paradise
Ducks and Black Swans on our private
property and the surrounding wet lands. The
waterfowl hunting season is May – July.
Daryl & Austin - Great Morning Shoot
Bow Hunters
To take your trophy with a bow is an exciting
challenge and one that we are well prepared for.
Any experienced bow hunter will tell you it is
important that the guide and outfitter understands
the way that a bow hunt must work to be
successful. They must understand the behavior of
the species being hunted and also the capabilities
of their hunter.
We have worked extensively to get the advantage
for our bow-hunters by setting tree stands, ground
blinds and carefully managing our hunting areas
so that there are good clearings and ambush
points. You can be confident in booking your bow
hunt with us that you will get the opportunities
you dream of!

Wilderness Quest was set up as the perfect
hunting destination for you to bring your
non-hunting partners and family groups. Our
riverside lodges are private, exclusive and contain
all the comforts of home for your stay.
We have numerous ladies that come as nonhunters and continue on to hunt their first trophy
animal with us. Often these hunts come about as
the result of an enjoyable hunt with their partner.
Our youngest Red Stag hunter was only 7 years
old and took an impressive 370 class Red Stag
while hunting with his family.
For those in your group that do not hunt we have
an excellent range of other activities; Sightseeing
tours by airplane, helicopter, cruise boat and also
personally guided local tours. Not to forget the
shopping where we take our guests to handpicked
specialty stores where you will find the best of
New Zealand’s artists at work carving beautiful
jewelry and other unique artifacts.
Lodge Accomodation
Our lodge accommodation is
very comfortably appointed
with self-contained kitchen
and washing facilities, Satellite
widescreen TV, high-speed
wireless internet and phone
service.
The modern bathroom has
under floor heating which is a
nice added touch and you will be
surprised how well suited these
are to the needs of a hunting
couple. We have had newlyweds
spend their honeymoon here
with us and combine this special
occasion with some awesome
hunting!
We have an amazing team of chefs that will surprise you
each day with some new tasty recipe. The fine meals
that they prepare are truly exceptional and we get many
requests for our Wilderness Quest Recipe Book, this is still
in production!
All said and done, you can be confident that all your needs
will be met during your hunt with us and it will be a truly
memorable “Hunt of a Lifetime”.

“The Tahr and Chamois hunt in the snow capped mountains was without a doubt
the most exciting hunt I have ever been on. I also took a nice Red Stag and
Arapawa Ram at lower elevations.
My guide was extremely knowledgeable and dedicated to locating and presenting
me with the opportunity of getting a shot at the animals I wanted to take. A very
friendly and sincere person, I am proud to call him not only an outstanding guide
but now also my friend.
Wilderness Quest did an outstanding job with lodging, meals and support
personnel. The lodge was spotless, the meals delicious and the other people
involved with the hunt very friendly and helpful.”
