Housing
Kalamazoo is a wonderfully diverse community with a wide variety of housing options. We understand
that housing plays a major role in considering employment changes and The Veenstra Team has many
tools that will help you to get a really good picture of the Kalamazoo housing market.
The Kalamazoo area was hurt by the economic situation just like nearly every other place in the nation
but this year has been a much better year for housing in the Kalamazoo area. The average sale price of
homes sold in 2013 is near $150.000 compared to an average sale price of near $138,000 in 2012.
We have specific Market Trend reports that we are able to provide for the area if you are interested in
more detailed information. Just call (269-350-5514) or email ([email protected]) and ask.
WHILE YOU ARE CONSIDERING A MOVE
Let us provide you with a completely free, private website that will show you every house that is
available on the market that matches the criterion you tell us are important.
• This includes all houses for sale, no matter what company sign is on the house.
• This free system will also alert you to every house that comes on the market that matches your
criterion. This is the best way to get a feel for the market and be able to see what you are able
to get for the money.
• You are not making any commitments by asking for this website. You will not be hounded with
phone calls because you have it. We are happy to set up the website for you while you consider
or even months before you might be moving.
• It is ALWAYS up to date (unlike other 3rd party websites that aggregate MLS data)
• The search can be made very specific to meet YOUR needs (within a certain school district, or a
certain number of miles from a particular location, or in a certain neighborhood.)
If you want to do general searching without a private website, use FindHomesinKalamazoo.com for a
powerful and pleasant search experience!
ONCE YOU DECIDE TO MOVE TO KALAMAZOO
• Give us a call (269-350-5514) as soon as you make a decision and we will make sure that we
personally put together a set of tools that will be tailored to helping you meet your housing
needs.
• We can connect you to temporary housing options or storage units if necessary too.
• We can also pre-screen REALTORS in your current home town to make sure you get your home
listed with an agent who will get it sold!

In 1847, the Southwest Michigan became known as The Celery City. In 1869, the thriving mint industry
and our reputation as Peppermint King brought global recognition. The Paper City
was the area’s next title in 1874 and parchment and most other paper were produced in the region. But,
when entrepreneur William Erastus Upjohn founded the Upjohn Pill and Granule
Company in 1885, the region’s reputation as a leading center for research and development, designbased manufacturing and innovation took off.
Today, you will find 20 Fortune 1000 companies headquartered or physically present and a skilled
workforce diversified in our primary industry sectors that have made the region a leader in
medical devices, pharmaceuticals, design-based manufacturing, packaging, agriculture and food
processing.
The region is the:
• World Headquarters for the Kellogg Company, Stryker Corporation and Whirlpool Corporation
• Site selected by more than 100 international companies
• Tops among metropolitan statistical areas for employment for Drugs and Pharmaceuticals and
Medical Device Equipment
Strategic midpoint location between Chicago and Detroit that lies within:
• 54% of the nation’s manufacturers
• 48% of all national retail sales
• 54% of the nation’s business payroll
• 65% of Canada’s Gross National Product
On the next page you will see a list of some of the major employers that are found in our community.
There are also hundreds of medium and small businesses that provide jobs and stability in the greater
Kalamazoo area.

community engaging with local artists. Miller Auditorium is the premier performing arts venue in West Michigan,
and features touring productions straight from Broadway, live concerts, comedy events and family shows.
The collection of the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts includes over 4,000 works of art, focusing on American painting,
sculpture and ceramics; American and European works on paper; and photography. With support from the
Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), the KIA’s collection is now accessible worldwide via our online

We are eager to help you purchase a home! The Veenstra Team has been serving home buyers and sellers in
the Greater Kalamazoo area since 1988. We have helped over 1300 buyers and sellers! We represent
buyers throughout the home search and purchase process … for FREE!
The VEENSTRA TEAM APPROACH
Please allow us to explain a little about our approach: Over the years we've developed a consultative approach
to help our clients make wise, well-informed decisions. We are not interested in "selling" you a house. We
thrive when we provide the service that you need to find the house that is best for you. We are here to
represent your best interests. We are committed to total honesty and always work with
Biblical integrity. We love Kalamazoo and love helping people find their place here. We listen carefully,
negotiate effectively and communicate regularly. Our goal is to serve you with excellence and integrity so that
our clients meet their housing needs.
Our Services are Free to Home Buyers ... REALLY!!!
When we represent you as your buyer agent, you get the benefit of our experience, expertise and top notch
tools and services BUT YOU DO NOT PAY anything. The services of the buyer agent are
paid for by the home seller....so you get all the benefits...without paying
anything! That’s hard to believe isn’t it!?
Introducing our Veenstra Team Leaders
The Veenstra Team is made up of several members who are ready to serve you! The
principle members of the team include David Veenstra, who has been in real estate
since 1988 and Jason Veenstra, David's son, who joined the team in 2010. Jason left a
successful career as a route manager for Homewood Disposal in Chicago because he is
eager to serve home buyers and sellers. In addition to our 2 principle REALTORS, you will
likely talk to Cindi Veenstra, our office manager or perhaps other members of our other
client services team. We also partner with several other REALTORS who serve as Buyer Agents for our
clients, David’s experience spans 22 years as a top producer for Prudential Preferred REALTORS and, since
2009, as a top producer with Evenboer Walton REALTORS. The transition to Evenboer Walton, a locally
owned company with very experienced, independent top producers enables the Veenstra Team to personally
serve our clients with increased flexibility and efficiency, while continuing to develop and expand our uniquely
effective and productive home marketing strategies, staffing resources, information management systems, and
industry networks.
David has his Masters in Business degree from Western MI University. He is committed to service
excellence, integrity, Biblically based standards, creative and effective marketing and top notch client
representation. David has extensive negotiating experience and is a Certified Residential Specialist, a designation that is held by less than 4% of REALTORS throughout the nation. The Certified Residential Specialist
(CRS) is the highest Designation awarded to sales associates in the residential sales field. The CRS
Designation recognizes professional accomplishments in both experience and education. David also has the
GRI designation. The Graduate REALTOR® Institute (GRI) symbol is the mark of a real estate professional
who has made the commitment to provide a high level of professional services by securing a strong
educational foundation. REALTORS® with the GRI designation are highly trained in many areas of real estate
to better serve and protect their clients.
Jason has a Business Communications degree from Trinity Christian College with a minor in Information
Systems and has grown up with dinner conversation about neat homes, excited home buyers and interesting
transactions. He started and ran his own lawn care business when he was 16, continued it through his college
years, started as a REALTOR and was successful in the middle of the toughest real estate market in recent
history. He is eager to continue the standards and values which have marked the Veenstra Team service.
Jason’s I.T. background continues to give Veenstra Team home buyers and sellers a technology edge!
