"One of the best albums of the year" Bob Harris, BBC Radio 2 TICKETS: £13; OVER 65s, UNDER 16s & F/T STUDENTS £11 Imogen Cooper piano Iván Fischer conductor One of the world’s great orchestras, the Budapest Festival Orchestra’s programme begins with their compatriot Dohnányi’s Symphonic Minutes. This attractive piece, in five short movements, shows the composer’s mastery of the orchestra. Beethoven’s youthful piano concerto shows the composer advancing confidently from Mozart’s model, with a tender slow movement and mischievous, sprightly finale. Brahms’ Fourth Symphony is the fruit of a lifetime wrestling with the problem of how to write symphonies after Beethoven, and balance the dramatic and contemplative sides of his character. The four movements end with a huge passacaglia, thirty variations on a theme from a Bach cantata. “The BFO is one of the great orchestras and the playing was exceptional.” The Guardian As his new album's title relates, Loudon Wainwright III is Older Than My Old Man Now – his old man being the late Loudon Wainwright, Jr., the esteemed Life Magazine columnist and senior editor. “Singer-songwriter contemporaries of mine have recently taken to writing memoirs and autobiographies,“ notes Wainwright.” I decided I would try to tell the story of my swinging life in a three and onehalf minute song.” He's speaking specifically of the album's lead track The Here and The Now, and this tour will bring you this and more from the new album, plus other well known and loved songs from his huge back catalogue now consisting of over 25 albums and over 40 years of songwriting. All delivered with Loudon's inimitable wit, humour, timing and pathos. His concerts are as individual as his songs, so a very special evening is promised. Was it Renee’s acting rival and former TV soap star, Christa? Or was it Boris himself?
