This year’s Festival features films from 22 different countries, filmmaker meet and greets, panel discussions, workshops in area schools, and live music. He taught video production for the Williams College art department after he graduated. He is currently working on an independent film with Frederick Marx, director of Hoop Dreams, a movie that was named best film of the 1990’s by Roger Ebert. Run Free - The True Story of Caballo Blanco Tucson, Arizona is home to the All Souls Procession, a yearly costumed parade honoring the dead. Once small, the Procession now hosts some 100,000 participants. The event brings people together to share in their sorrows by giving a creative voice to grief. The film portrays the regenerative power that results from this collective cultural tradition. Recently diagnosed with ALS, 28 year-old Steve and his wife Hope hit the road to see the country, meeting musicians Michael Franti, Garath Asher, and Dave Matthews along the way. As his disease progresses, Steve struggles to find joy in an ever-limited life. Through support from each other, their Atlanta community, and Facebook followers, the couple endures. Artist-organizers Nadia Hagen and Paul Weir, along with other participants, share their experiences with planning and participating in the Procession. Based on a true story, this drama follows the life of a young girl struggling with the aftermath of a traumatic event. Her behaviors turn destructive, causing her family to suffer. She is sent to find health and empowerment at The Maheo Academy, a residential treatment center that specializes in unconventional techniques such as equine therapy and social horticultural therapy. Charlton-Trujillo embarked on a book tour for her third novel, Fat Angie. Driving cross-country to inspire youth on the fringe, she held free workshops in libraries, alternative education programs, and prisons. Charlton-Trujillo showed kids and teens how to use their words and storytelling abilities to face their fears, embrace their imagination, and resist being counted out. When his empire collapsed, Henry didn’t miss a beat and launched Miami Freestyle. Through photographs and footage capturing a forgotten history, this film traces the dramatic arc of the record business from inception through the digital age. Audrey Edmunds was wrongly accused of shaking and killing a baby. She spent 11 years in prison, and there are many others like her. This documentary follows the crusade of a group of doctors, scientists, and legal scholars trying to prove that “Shaken Baby Syndrome” is not scientifically valid. Inspired by Franz Kafka’s book The Trial, a travelling peasant arrives in front of a gate controlled by a fearsome guardian. The peasant tries to pass through, but the guardian denies him entrance. This digital animation illustrates one variation of the 17th century philosopher Rene Descartes’ view of the world by drawing together his understanding of geometry and his most famous statement, “I think, therefore I am.” Sunday, April 19 1pm GLOBAL SHORTS Bad Hunter Sahim Omar Kalifa, Belgium/United Arab Emirates, 2014, 14 min. (In Kurdish with English subtitles) Bahoz goes hunting in rural Kurdistan and stops the rape of a young woman by an older man. Later that evening, Bahoz receives an unexpected visit.
