Thiscodeplugissetuptoprovidetheuserwithacomprehensivedatabaseofchannelsanduser
featuresenablingtheradiotobeusedanywhereintheUKonall70cmamateurbanddigital
(DMR)andAnaloguechannelsforbothrepeatersandsimplexoperation.
Theradioisconfiguredtooperateonallofthenew2016networksaswellasthemanyother
networksnotconnectedtotheDMR-MarcnetworksuchastheSouthWestClusterandthenewly
formedSALOPnetwork.
HyteraradiosaresomeofthebestDMRradiosavailable.Thisisapremiumcodeplugfora
premiumradioavailableexclusivelyatTaylorMadeRF.
WhilstanumberofZonesarepre-programmedwitheasytousechannelsitisanticipatedthat
theusermightwanttomodifyorsimplifythisonhis/herparticularradio,sothebiggesteffort
hasbeenaroundbuildingacomprehensivedatabasethattheusercanusetoprogrammezones
tohis/herpersonalrequirements.
I’vemadeeveryefforttoensurethatchannelsarebothdescriptiveandflexibleinthewaythat
youusethemandinformationcontainedthereinisaccurate.Withsuchalargeamountof
informationitislikelythereareafewmistakesandIwillcorrecttheseassoonasI’mawareof
them.WherepossibleI’veincludedtheverbosenameforeachrepeatersoyouknowwhichone
youareusing.Thisisparticularlyusefulwhentravellingtonewareas.
Whilstsomestandardsareagreedandwithmanyrepeatersfollowingthemit’simportanttonote
thatnotallareasusethemorareevenconnectedtothewiderD-MARCnetwork.Forthatreason
clustersorsmallernetworksarebeginningtoemergethatdon’talwaysfollowthestandardrules
soit’simportanttohaveyourradioprogrammedaccordingly.
Myplanistoincludetheseclustersmeaningyouareabletoconnecttothevariousnetworksand
takeadvantageofanyroamingfacilitiesalongthewaywheresitesareinterlinked.
ByallowingtheuseranumberofdifferentwaystouseaDMRrepeater,greaterflexibilityis
affordedparticularlywheninanareathatyouarenotfamiliarwith.Foryourlocalrepeatersit’s
easytohaveeverythingsetupforchannelisedaccessfromwithinazone.Whenoperatingina
newarea,youmightjustwanttolistentoallTGtrafficonagiventimeslotandmanuallyinputthe
TXtalk-grouporhavetheradioautoselectbasedonwhatithears.Thiscodeplugcandothat.

3. SCOPE:
Thisdocumentisauserguideforthecode-plugonlyandhowitaffectsthefunctionoftheradio.
Itisnotdesignedinanywaytoeithercomplimentorreplacetheusermanualfortheradio.
However,thecodeplugdoeschangetheradio’suserinterfaceandIwilltrytodescribethatand
makeitasintuitiveaspossible.
Currentlythiscode-plugissetupforuseintheUK.Tothatend,TalkGroups,Channels&Zones
willbeoptimisedforusewithintheUKbutmayoperateontheworldwidenetworks.Imayadd
inalittleotherfunctionalityoutsideoftheUKlateronbutfornowthisisthescope.
MostUKDMRrepeatersfollowtheD-MARCrulesfortalk-groupsandthiswillbethedefault
assumption.Howeverwheremoredetailedisavailable,channelswillbeprogrammedtooperate
repeatersasconfiguredbytherepeatergroupsorowners.Anexampleofthisarethesites
locatedonthe‘South-WestCluster’ThisisasmallnetworkofrepeatersintheSouthwestUKthat
areNOTconnectedtotheD-MARCnetworkandonlyuseTG9onslot1forlocaluseandTG950
onslot2forSWCnetworkuse.TheyalsouseTG950forroamingacrosstheSWC.
Thedatabasecontainschannelsprogrammedforeveryavailabletalkgroupforeveryavailable
repeater.Thisinformationdoeschangehoweverfromtimetotimesoifyouspotsomethingthat
needsupdatingorisincorrectthenpleasedropmeanemail.
4. RADIOCONTROLS&FUNCTIONS(DiffersforPD785andMD785)
TheHyteraPD785/MD785generalcontrolsandfunctionsarecoveredintheusermanual.
However,thereareanumberofprogrammablefeatures,whichhavebeenmodifiedspecifically
bythiscodeplugwhicharedetailedbelow:
4.1 PD785PortableRadioProgrammableButtons

Thisbuttonhasbeenre-programmedfortwofunctionsasfollows:
1. ShortPress–TalkGroupQuickAccess(TGQA)SelectyourtalkgroupfromthedropdownlistandpressPTTtoactivateitonthecurrentTimeslot.
2. LongPress-SelectHighorLowTXPower.(Worksinallmodes).
Note:Ideallywhenselectingtalk-groupfromthequickaccesslist,youshouldhaveselecteda

2,3and5-Tonealertshavebeenconfiguredontheradiothateithergoupinpitchordownin
pitchdependingonfunction.UpinpitchusuallysignifiesopeningaQSOorsomethingpositive,
downinpitchsignifiedacallcomingtoanendoraclosureoraproblemsuchas‘ChannelBusy’.
Alongsinglebeepusuallysignifiesawarningofsometypesuchas‘RepeaterWakeFailure’.
Thereareotheraudiblealertstosignifyprivatecallsandradioalertsallofwhichmaybe
modifiedbytheuserfromwithintheCPSsoftwareandprogramminglead.
5. CHANNELS:
ThiscodeplugcontainsacomprehensivelistofUHFanalogueanddigital(DMR)repeatersas
wellasafullsetofstandardSimplexfrequenciesforuseonbothFMAnalogueandDMR.
Eachchannel/repeaterwherepossibleincludesit’sactualnametomakeiteasiertolocate
relativetoyourcurrentposition.Insomecasesthisisslightlyabbreviatedsoastofitinthe
display.
UsingtheCPSsoftwareandprogramminglead,youcanselectfromthesechannelsand
programmeZONEStosuityourpersonalrequirements.SeebelowforanexplanationofZONES.
Youcanhaveupto16CHANNELSprogrammedforeachZONEandusetheChannelknobonthe
topoftheradiotoselectthem.YourchannelwillbeshowninthedisplayalongwiththeZONE
currentlyselected.
YoucanalsousetheUP/DOWNbuttontoscrollthroughchannelsontheradioandthisallowyou
tocrossfromonezonetothenext.ThisisparticularlyusefulwhenintheALLUKAnalogue
RepeaterZones,effectivelyallowingyoutoscrollthroughGB3AAtoGB3ZZ.
6. ZONES:
Youcanhaveupto64ZONESprogrammedonthePD785eachofwhichcancontainupto16
CHANNELS.ZonescanbecreatedusingtheHyteraCPSsoftwareandasuitableprogramming
lead.
InormallyreserveZone1asthe‘localzone’intowhichIloadupmyfavouriterepeaters&
simplexchannels.ItispossibletohavemorethanonelocalzoneandinmyowncodeplugI
choosetodothissoIcanoperatefromanalternativelocationwithadifferentsetofrepeaters.
AdditionalzonesIhavepre-programmeare:
• UKRoaming–ContainsalloftheUKroaminggroupsacrosstheUK.Switchbetween
themasyoumovearoundtheUKtotakeadvantageoftheroamingclusters.
• SIMPLEX–ContainspopularDMRandAnalogueFMsimplexchannelsforpointtopoint
conversations.
• DVMini–ContainsTG’sthatwillcontrolaDVMinidongleon436Mhzallowingyouto
channelswitchbetweenDMRreflectors4400–4403intheUK.
• RepeatersGB7xx(wherexxareaselectionofmyfavouriteDMRrepeaters.I’velaidthe
channelsoutthesameforallofthemusingthefollowingformat:

Talkgroupsareusedtodifferentiateconversationsonthesametime-slotfromoneanother.This
usuallydetermineshowmanyrepeatersorwhatnetworkofinter-linkedrepeatersyoutransmit
through.Youcouldbetransmittingonjustyourlocalrepeaterorthroughanetworkofhundreds
orpotentiallyeventhousandsofrepeatersworldwide.It’sclearlygoodpracticetouseand
understandthisfacilitywiselyandonlyoccupylargenumbersofrepeatersforcalling.Using
user-activatedtalkgroupstoQSYawayfromthemainonesandoccupylessrepeaterswillbenefit
allusersandshouldbeconsideredbestpractice.
Eitheruseapre-programmedchannelwithinazonesetupfortheappropriatetalk-groupor
selectatalkgroupfromoneofthefollowing:
• TalkGroupQuickAccess(TGQA)–PressOrangebuttonontopofRadioforshortlist
• Contacts–SelectfromtheMenuandscrolltotalk-groupyouwishtouse.

9. ROAMING:
Whenusingregionaltalk-groupssuchasTG810(SouthWest)roamingmaybeallowedifithas
beenimplemented.Roamingallowsyourradiotoautomaticallyselectthestrongestrepeater
withinrangeasyoumoveaboutandtransmitthroughallofthemonthenetwork.
It’sanincrediblyusefulfeatureactiveonmostregionaltalkgroupsonTimeslot2.Mostofthese
BelowisalistofroamingtalkgroupsintheUK.
Yourradioissettoautomaticallyroamwhenoneoftheseregionalgroupsisselected.This
featurecanofcoursebeturnedofffromthemenuorbypressingtheappropriatefunctionbutton
describedabove.

selectingtherelevanttalkgroupfromadropdownlistactivatedbypressingtheOrangebutton
(TGQA–TalkGroupQuickAccess).
AnyoftheTalkgroupsstarting8xxcanbeselectedfromwithinanotherregion.So,ifyou’rein
region810(SouthWest)andyouwanttocallintoregion850(Scotland),presstheorange

I’vemanagedtofindalinkto‘Active’UKcall-signsoverthelastmonth,whichissubstantially
smallerandassumingyoujustwantthese,thereare600orsowhichwouldeasilyfitinto
memory.
Theproblemis,evenwiththesourcefileinthecorrectformat:i.e.(MSEXCEL2003)withall
fieldsstoredasTEXT,theCPSsoftwarewillonlyseemtoimport56recordsatatimewhichisnot
muchuse.
I’venotyetbottomedouttheprecisereasonforthisbutaquicksearchonGoogletellsmeI’mnot
theonlyonehavingthisproblemsomycurrentthoughtsarethattheproblemlieswiththeCPS
software.
Fornow,I’mjustputtinginthecallsignsofmyregularcontactsmanuallythroughtheCPS
softwaresoasnottoclogitupwithpeopleIdon’tknow.
Thishelpstomanagethecontactsfile,whichismoreusefulforpre-programmedtalkgroupsor
direct-dialtalkgroups.
Idon’tthinkI’dliketobescrollingthrough1000oreven600callsignsonmyradioandthereare
plentyofwebsitesorphone‘Apps’thatallowyoutoseethedetailsofthepersoncallingasthey
activatearepeater.
