Mike Senders
Journal Honoree
Mike Senders is a product of many influences. He is the grandson of two Jerusalem-born Rabbis, one of whom
was a noted archaeologist. Mike was born in Cleveland, Ohio, at a time when there weren’t any Hebrew
Day Schools in the area. He attended Hebrew School a few afternoons a week. His parents, recognizing the
importance of a Jewish Education, sent him to Yeshiva University, where he graduated high school and went
on to receive his Bachelor of Arts degree.
In 1946, Mike returned to Cleveland where his interest in business led him to found Plymart, a wholesale
paneling and home improvement center, as well as M. Senders Properties, a property management company.
His passion and deep commitment to the dissemination of Torah values and the education he received at
Yeshiva University remained a strong influence in his life. He and his beloved wife, Peppy z’l, were among
the founders of the Young Israel of Cleveland, where Mike held a variety of positions from Youth Director
to President of the Board of Trustees. They were also among the earliest supporters of the Fuchs Mizrachi
School in Cleveland, where they endowed the Outstanding Service Award in their names, and where Mike
continues to serve as Chairman of the Board Emeritus. The Senders also endowed the Outside the Classroom
Education Chair at Yeshiva University where Mike served on the Board of Trustees. Mike has received
awards from the Hebrew Academy of Cleveland and Torah U’Mesora.
Mike has four married children: Shelly and his wife, Debbie; Barbara and her husband, Marty; Tina and
her husband, Shalom; and Linda and her husband, Jimmy. He is the proud grandfather of eighteen and
great-grandfather of two. When his children were young, Mike bought a timeshare in Jerusalem at Lev
Yerushalayim, with the hope that his family could spend summers sharing with relatives his rich familial
connection to the holy city, which includes both parents being born in Mea Shearim. This Israel residence
also allowed their grandchildren to develop a deep interest in Eretz Yisroel, and he now has two married
grandchildren living happily in Israel and two others studying at Yeshivot.
Mike and Peppy z’l first moved to Boca as snowbirds more than 20 years ago. They became one the first 50
member families of Boca Raton Synagogue. Their love of Torah learning is perpetuated by the endowment
of the Mike and Peppy Senders Library at BRS, and by Mike’s weekly commentary on prayer in the Shul
bulletin. For Mike, BRS has become a community of friends, a family away from his family, and a part of his
daily ritual. For all of these reasons, we are pleased to honor Mr. Mike Senders at the BRS 30th
Anniversary Journal Dinner.

Chazzan Moshe & Gali Nadav
Keter Shem Tov Award
Moshe Nadav was born and grew up in Rechovot. In 1995, he began his Sephardic Chazzanut studies
in Renanot Institute for Jewish Music, where he received voice training and learned the Maqams, the
Sephardic prayer ritual. He graduated in three years and immediately began to serve as a Chazzan and
Baal Koreh in the Great Sephardic Synagogue of Rechovot. In 1999, Moshe commenced his studies in
the Hesder Yeshiva at Karnei Shomron, where he was a student for ten years. In 2000 he served a soldier
in the IDF’s Golani Combat Brigade, and in 2002 he graduated the Teachers’ Diploma Program at the
Moreshet Ya’akov College in Rehovot and received his B. Ed in Education and Talmudic Literature. In
2006, he began his “Shlichut” training in Amiel Institute. There, he learned the different components and
aspects of being a Shaliach in a community outside of Israel. In 2008, Moshe became the Chazzan of the
Sephardic Minyan of Boca Raton Synagogue, using both Moroccan and Yerushalmi Nusach. He delivers
Shiurim and Divrei Torah, and also teaches at Hillel Day School of Boca Raton.
Gali Nadav was born and raised in Bnei Brak. In 1998, she started her Sheirut Leumi in Mevaseret
Zion. She worked in the dormitories with children who came from socioeconomically-challenged families,
serving as a positive, loving, and warm figure, and helping them develop a positive outlook on the world.
In the second service year, Gali was given an important task from Bnei Akiva: to establish a branch for new
immigrants from Ethiopia in Mevasseret Zion. Gali and the other instructors taught the new immigrants
what it meant to be an Israeli Jew. During that busy year, Gali found time to study Torah, travelling to
Jerusalem to learn at Misreshet Harova in the Jewish Quarter. In 2000, after successfully completing two
years in Sherut Leumi, Gali dedicated an entire year to study Torah at Midreshert Ofra. During that year,
she participated in a unique project called “Place in the Heart.” Gali, together with other instructors,
spent Shabbat in different cities and neighborhoods throughout Israel to convey messages of love for
the county, for the people, and for Torah. In 2001, she began her college studies in Orot Israel College,
Elkana. She studied educational consulting and Hebrew literature. She participated in a special program
of education and faith while in college. In 2006, she joined Moshe in training before going on a Shlichut.
Classes were held at Ohr Torah Stone and at the Strauss-Amiel Institute for Shlichim. Gali joined the
staff of Hillel Day School where she teaches third grade. She was named Teacher of the Month at Hillel
in October 2009.
Moshe and Gali were married in 2003. They are the proud parents of five beautiful daughters: Ruth,
Sapir, Adi, Tamar, and Shira Miriam.

In honor of our 30th Anniversary, we pay tribute to our
Past Presidents
Issy Bruk
In 1979, Boca Raton had a very small Jewish community with one small Conservative synagogue (72 families)
and one Reform temple (325 families). As the synagogue where the Bruks affiliated became less traditional,
they became less comfortable and subsequently joined Anshei Emuna, an Orthodox synagogue in Delray
Beach. There they were joined by Neville and Britt Ziff. With their young children, Issy & Riwella Bruk
brought down the average age to 90! After several months, Riwella and Issy felt that they only had two
options: either to leave Boca Raton and move to a more traditional area, or start an Orthodox shul. Neville
and Britt Ziff, too, felt that starting a shul was a feasible option. “We spoke to Albert and Tamar Nawy, Steven and Linda
Marcus, Leonard and Trudi Sponder, and Marion and Jonathan Santhouse who agreed to come on board.” Thus, BRS was
born a little more than 30 years ago. Issy was the first President of BRS and took a major role in finding the land on Montoya
Circle. This took vision, perseverance, and skill at negotiation. This parcel of land, located on Montoya Circle, has enabled
BRS to expand physically, enabling a community to grow around it.
Steven Marcus z’l
Steven and Linda Marcus moved to a vacation home in Delray Beach in July 1983. Their plan was to
relocate to establish an Orthodox community like North Miami Beach or Hollywood; however, a chance
meeting on Rosh Hashanah 1983 changed that! Steven attended services at Anshei Emuna in Delray Beach
and happened to sit with Issy Bruk and Neville Ziff. They informed Steven that they were interested in
forming an Orthodox shul in Boca Raton. Steven and Linda joined them in this endeavor. Steven provided
legal counsel in the purchase of the land on Montoya Circle. He became the second president of BRS.
William Rand
Over the years, Bill and Debbie Rand have been a team in so many ways. They were among the first families
that established the Boca Raton Synagogue. It all started with a chance meeting between Debbie and Dr.
Issy Bruk and the rest is history. There was no Orthodox synagogue anywhere near Boca Raton. Bill and
Debbie were in need for more yiddishkeit and Boca did not offer that at that time. The founding group was
full of excitement and a great vision. It took only one night for this dedicated group to raise the money to
buy the whole BRS campus without a mortgage. Bill served as president for two years during the stressful
formative years of BRS. Bill is still a member of the Board of Directors and has been on every board since the beginning.
The Rand Sanctuary carries the Rand family name attesting to the commitment that the Rand’s have to the Boca Raton
community.
Aaron Kaweblum M.D.
Aaron & Yvette Kaweblum moved from Mexico City in 1983, where he was a practicing pediatrician and a
mohel. After completing his pediatric residency at the University of Miami in 1986, Aaron learned about a
brand new Orthodox community that was forming in Boca Raton. Very excited about the opportunity to be
part of a new community, the Kaweblums moved to Montoya Circle in June of 1986. Yvette and Aaron immediately volunteered on several committees, and eventually Aaron was elected to the BRS Board of Directors.
In 1988, BRS was going through very turbulent times. At that time, Aaron was asked by Dr. William Rand
and Rabbi Zweig to become president of the shul. During his tenure, and with Yvette’s help, BRS solidified its adult education
program, youth groups, Chesed committee, Purim Mishloach Manot baskets, monthly bulletins, and the BRS welcoming committee. During this time they also approved and established committees for building the community Mikvah and Eruv. After
serving as president, Aaron sat on the BRS board of Directors for numerous years and has been a member of the advisory
board for the past three years. Yvette has been the head of the Chevra Kadisha for the past eleven years. In addition, for
many years Aaron was the shul’s main Baal Koreh and was often honored with the roles of Bal-Tefilah on Shabbat
and Bal-Tokeah on the High Holidays, and the reading of Megilat Esther for 25 years.

In honor of our 30th Anniversary, we pay tribute to our
Past Presidents
Joe Dalezman
Joe Dalezman was born in Poland immediately following the war, and immigrated to the United States
with his family in 1950. Since moving to the community, Joe served as Secretary of the Synagogue for
one year and President for two years. He was instrumental in a difficult transition period for the Shul,
and was pivotal in the launching of the Synagogue on its unprecedented growth path. It was under Joe’s
administration that a rabbinic search was conducted, resulting in the retention of Rabbi Kenneth and
Ruchie Brander, and the approval and the conceptualization of the building expansion for the Synagogue
and the Mikvah was initiated.
Jack Berkovitz z’l
Jack Berkowitz was born on the lower East Side of Manhattan, the mecca of Orthodox Jewry at the
time. In 1940 Jack was excused from military service due to his father’s illness. However, when his
younger brother started working, Jack was drafted. Jack’s ability for leadership was quickly realized and
recognized. He was sent to Officers’ Training School and was quickly promoted to Captain in the tank
corps. Jack served in India, Burma, and China. In 1989 the Berkowitz family helped found Boca Raton
Synagogue. Jack assumed leadership almost at once. He was a member of the board, Vice President,
Gabbai, Assistant Building Chairman, and President.
Martin Judovits
Martin was born in Dej, Romania. During the war his entire family was uprooted and sent to Auschwitz.
In 1944, both of his parents, his two brothers, and one sister were alive and well. But by 1945, he was the
sole survivor. Martin finally arrived in New York in 1947.
Martin and Helen arrived in Boca Raton in 1984 and immediately became active members. In his first
year, he organized and became chairman of the new Chevra Kadisha. In the same year, he led the High
Holiday Services (Schachrit and Mincha) and in the second year, he was Cantor for Mussaf. When the old shul was dedicated
in February 1987, Martin was the Master of Ceremonies. He was Gabbai for two years and the first Ritual Chairman. In
1989 Martin had a dream: a new sanctuary to accommodate our growing congregation and a Mikvah, the first in Palm
Beach County. He undertook the Chairmanship of the Building Committee. He worked night and day on the conception,
the planning, the legal issues, the designing, the contracting, the supervision of the actual construction, and the unending
negotiations. Many of us have been witnesses to his dedication, determination and endurance. All of us should be grateful
for the fulfillment of his dream so that our congregation can continue to grow. He chaired the BRS Constitution Committee
when it was being drafted. He organized and chaired the first Annual Journal Dinner. He was a Vice President in 1992 and
was elected President in 1993. Although he was already worthy of the greatest of honors for all these accomplishments and
ministrations, Martin was only beginning his service to our community, our shul, and for each and every one of us.
Rabbi Gabriel Ohayon
Gabriel Ohayon has contributed countless hours to all aspects of BRS. He served as our President for
two years, during which we witnessed explosive growth in terms of our ever-expanding congregation, the
volume and quality of learning, the addition of a Kollel, and the outreach programs. Gabriel could have
said at the conclusion of his two-year term, “enough”. Tirelessly, however, he continued to serve on
many committees and boards, always available to supervise new projects. He contributed immensely to the
creation of the Sephardic Minyan. As a Baal Koreh par excellence, he led all services, particularly during
the Yamin Noraim.
Boca Raton Synagogue
In honor of our 30th Anniversary, we pay tribute to our
Past Presidents
Mitchell Stiel
Mitchell Stiel was born in Brooklyn, New York, and graduated from Brooklyn College. His participation in
BRS is legendary. Mitchell was Gabbai Rishon from 1989 to 1995, a member of the Board of Directors for
22 years, Financial Secretary, and President twice (from 1996-1999, and again from 2006-2007). He has
been chairman of the High Holy Days Seating Committee since 1990, chairman of the shul’s Nominating
Committee five times, chairman of the Ritual Committee for five years, and gabbai of the 7:00 a.m. minyan
for 23 years.
These positions all share several things in common—they are thankless, require difficult work, long hours, and true dedication,
and often precipitate the anger and frustration of others. Repeat performances in these positions are, therefore, rare, and the
combination or totality, unique. No, Mitchell is not masochistic; rather he is that rare individual who is perpetually cheerful,
with broad shoulders, who is totally devoted to the synagogue.
Jerry Kaminetzky
After Jerry retired from a 37-year career with the Federal Aviation Administration and a subsequent
two-year stint with a government contractor, and after his wife Gigi’s 30+ year teaching career, they
were ready to move from Silver Spring, Maryland to a more temperate climate. They had heard about
the growing multi-generational Orthodox community in Boca Raton as well as the dynamic impact of
BRS. Jerry & Gigi did their due diligence, including several visits, and determined that this was the
place for them. Jerry immediately became deeply involved in BRS and, within three years, was elected
as its President. During his terms in office, the financial posture of the shul was strengthened, the concept of a monthly
Main Minyan Shabbat Kiddush Club was introduced, the initial set of storage cubbies were installed, and the “Quickie
Hakafot Lite” were initiated on Simchat Torah.
Hommy Tannenbaum
Hommy was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1928. Hommy and Syd met in 1954 and were married in 1955.
Initially they came to Boca Raton as snowbirds. They became full-time residents in 1995 and moved to
Montoya Circle in 2000. Hommy and Syd joined BRS in 1996, and that is where the real saga begins.
Hommy was the shul President for three years, after serving as a Vice President and a member of the
Board of Directors. He became the “official” Executive Director after functioning in that capacity on a de
facto basis for years. However, Hommy has been a major player in quite a few less obvious roles. Hommy
was instrumental in instituting fiscal responsibility to the Shul’s financial affairs, including developing an investment bond
program (affectionately known as “Hommy Bonds”) to enable paying off the debt for the construction of the first floor of the
Jacobs and Rubin Youth and Senior Center. He was the key player in acquiring and expanding the Beit Olam (cemetery) for
BRS and then continuing to handle many of the ongoing activities. He was chairman of the House and Property Committee.
He “leveled the playing field” for BRS-approved caterers by creating a standard contract agreement with the Shul. He
negotiated agreements with BRS tenants. He re-organized the Shul custodial staff services to ensure appropriate coverage
during normal operating hours as well as for events and programs. His approach was always “hands-on,” and leading by
example. The internal communications were improved through weekly Executive Board meetings and open monthly Board
of Directors meetings.
Boca Raton Synagogue
In honor of our 30th Anniversary, we pay tribute to our
Past Presidents
Joseph “J.B.” Bensmihen
J.B. grew up in Montreal where he attended the Hebrew Academy of Montreal. Following high school he
spent a year in Israel at Yeshivat Ohr Yerushalayim and then entered Yeshiva University where he received
a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. An interest in Torah study led him to the Chaver program for an
additional year. He then received a master’s degree in Social Work from Yeshiva University’s Wurtzweiler
School of Social Work. He specialized in Community Organization and Leadership Development.
Inspired by the spiritual leadership of Rabbi Brander and Rabbi Goldberg, J.B . became active in a variety of BRS activities.
At the invitation of Hommy Tannenbaum, the former president, J.B. joined the shul Board. He served as Treasurer, after
which he was elected President, a position he held for two years. In reflecting on his term of office, J.B. said, “I served as
President during a transitional period requiring special sensitivity. I am gratified that the congregation exhibited trust in my
ability to lead during this critical juncture.” J.B. advocated for the creation of a catering hall as a synagogue-based profit
center.
Jonathan Marriott
London born Jonathan Marriott crossed the pond in 2004 (alongside many a hurricane), with his wife
Janice and children Aliza and Ruby, to settle on the Circle. Having enjoyed Shabbat hospitality in the
BRS community a number of times prior to their move, they felt at home instantly; Janice and Jonathan
soon assumed leadership positions. Encouraged by Jerry, Mitch and Hommy, Jonathan became a board
member, VP, and President of BRS in 2005/6/7 respectively. In addition to finding efficiencies in running
the shul, the revamp and growth of the Pillar Society was a proud achievement, ensuring a firmer financial
footing. Presiding over the 25th Anniversary (under the stewardship of Georgina Rice), reworking the Constitution (chaired
by Doug Cohen), and running many a Journal Dinner (thank you Lynn) were all part of the fun. Above all was the privilege
of working so closely with the talented and dedicated rabbinic and lay leadership teams and being a link in the distinguished
chain of past, present, and future leaders of our world-class and unique community. Personal highlights included chairing the
installation of Rabbi Efrem Goldberg as Mara D’asra (2006), welcoming Rudy Giuliani and Joe Lieberman to BRS during the
2008 US Presidential Election campaign, hosting Lady Jakobovits z’l as Scholar-in-Residence (2006) and arranging the visit
of Chief Rabbi Emeritus Lord Jonathan Sacks as Scholar-in-Residence (2014).
Daniel Katz
Daniel Katz was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. When he was going into 8th grade, in 1970, he moved to
Israel for 4 and a half years, where he attended high school. Daniel returned to the US in 1975 to attend
Washington University, where he received an undergraduate degree in Business and a Law Degree.
When he graduated from Law School, he returned to Milwaukee where he worked for his father for a few
years until he started his own company, Katz Properties, Inc., which he stills owns and manages. Daniel’s
greatest passions in life are his wife, kids, Hillel Day School, and the all-encompassing love and pride of
being Jewish and a proud, unabashed Zionist! In the 1990’s Daniel was the National Chair of New Leadership for the State
of Israel Bonds. He is presently the president of Hillel Day School of Boca Raton, the American President of the American
Friends of Israel Scouts and serves on the national boards of the Zionist Organization of America, Yeshivat Chovevai Torah,
and Yad Vashem. He is also on the executive board of WYHS. It was a great honor and privilege for Daniel to serve as the
president of BRS, a role he treasured, as it enabled him the opportunity to spend quality time with our Marah D’asrah Rabbi
Efrem Goldberg, the person for whom Daniel has great love, respect, and admiration. Although Daniel’s list of goals as
president of BRS was much greater than his list of accomplishments, he hopes he was able to inch along the
process of making BRS the best Modern Orthodox Shul in America!
Boca Raton Synagogue
Divrei Bracha
Rabbi Efrem Goldberg
Senior Rabbi
Dear distinguished honorees and beloved guests,
As Boca Raton Synagogue celebrates its 30th Anniversary, we are overwhelmed by a sense of gratitude and
appreciation for the remarkable community we have become. We look to the future with great excitement and
anticipation, eager to pursue our goals and realize our collective vision.
While our present is blessed and our future is so promising, tonight is about pausing to reflect and honor those
that have worked tirelessly and selflessly to help build our Kehilla Kedosha, our sacred Boca Raton Synagogue
community.
Mike Senders is much more than an esteemed member, respected community leader, and generous philanthropist. He
is a teacher and mentor to so many of us who have learned from his words of wisdom, countless divrei Torah, joyful
insights and enlightening conversations. More than from his words, we have learned so much from his example.
Watching Mike pour over his davening, concentrating on each and every word and getting lost in its moving themes
is more inspiring and uplifting than any class on prayer could possibly be. While most of us bench because we
ate bread, Mike eats bread everyday so that he can tap into the richness and experience the privilege of benching.
Mike has been incredibly generous with our community over the years including helping launch and greatly
supporting our Jewish Education Scholarship Fund. The Senders library is constantly filled with the sound of
Torah learning and study. Mike’s warmth, bright smile, insights into prayer or divrei Torah on the parsha add
immeasurably to our community every day.
Chazzan Moshe and Gali Nadav came from Israel on shelichut and as they return to their beloved Israel it is
safe to say they have fulfilled their mission. Moshe’s sweet voice has led our Sephardic Minyan and elevated the
prayer experience for all. He has taught a daily dvar Halacha, shared a weekly email, and taught Sephardic
children in BRS all with incredible humility, modesty, and amazing talent. Gali and he have transformed the
lives of their students at Hillel Day School through their commitment to Judaism, love of all Jews and their
passion for Israel. Though their return to Israel is bittersweet for us, their impact and influence will be felt for
many years to come.
One of the most thankless roles in Jewish communal life is Shul President. Countless hours and boundless
energy are invested and in return there is mostly grief, complaints and criticism. Tonight, as we celebrate our
30th Anniversary and all that it took to get here, we turn to you, our dear Presidents and say thank you. Thank
you for leaving your family to attend meetings, for soliciting funds, for mediating disputes, for leading board
meetings, for listening to grief, for promoting a vision, and for everything else that you have done. Each one
of you put your stamp on our community and left your indelible impression on our development. Without your
selfless leadership, our community would absolutely never be who we are today.
Personally, I am incredibly indebted to you for your support, guidance, wisdom and partnership. I have never
taken for granted how fortunate and blessed I am to work with lay leadership and particularly Presidents who
are humble, hard working and incredibly supportive confidants. Thank you.
The Mishna says sheloshim l’koach, at thirty, one attains strength. Our community is
just hitting its stride, thanks in large part to those whom we honor tonight.
Boca Raton Synagogue
Divrei Bracha
Rabbi Philip Moskowitz
Assistant Rabbi
It is with great joy that we gather for this year’s Journal Dinner to celebrate honorees who have given so much of
their time, energy, creativity, resources, love, and dedication to our Shul. We are forever grateful to all of them.
The Gemara in Maseches Berachos says that there are “devarim she’omdim berumo shel olam”, certain things that
are so important that they “stand in the loftiest heights of the world,” and yet they are not appreciated; people are
disparaging toward them and don’t give them their due respect. The Gemara, however, leaves us hanging. It simply
says that important things exist, but doesn’t articulate what these important things are. Rashi fills in the blanks
and says, “an example is tefilla, davening”. Tefilla is one of the loftiest things we do, and yet people do not fully
appreciate how truly amazing it is to be able to stand before the Creator of the universe and have a private audience
with Him. This notion is backed up by a second, different Gemarah in Berachos, which tells us that four things need
constant chizuk, constant reinforcement, and one of those four things is tefilla. The Gemara is communicating to us
that we need to perpetually work on developing new strategies and approaches to improving our davening to make
it as meaningful and effective as possible.
While meaningful prayer might be a challenge for the rest of us, it is the trademark of our honorees tonight. When
I think of both Mr. Senders and the Nadav family, I think of honorees whose entire raison d’être is to improve their
own davening and to inspire the davening of those around them.
Mr. Senders is a beloved member of our community. We are so appreciative of our Beit Midrash that bears his and
his late wife Peppy’s names. One can only imagine the constant merits they both receive as a result of the vibrant
learning that takes place in the Senders Library on a daily basis. But in addition to Mr. Senders’ generosity to the
shul, Mr. Senders embodies the words of Dovid Hamelech, who wrote “V’ani Tefilasi”, I am prayer. Anyone who
has ever talked to Mr. Senders knows that he always has a dvar torah or an innovative thought about a phrase in the
daily davening. He is always thinking about how to make davening relatable and meaningful. And anyone who has
ever watched Mr. Senders daven, in his unhurried, meticulous, and deliberate fashion, knows how much davening
means to him and how great a role it plays in shaping his life. He is a role model for me, my family, and the entire
community.
Chazzan Moshe and Gali Nadav have been pillars of the Sephardi Minyan for the past number of years. The two of
them conduct themselves with such humility and modesty that one can easily take for granted how much they mean to
our community. But just listen to Chazzan Nadav lead the minyan, hear him stretch out a breath singing on Simchat
Torah, learn from his divrei Torah, or watch the care and love that both he and Gali show all of their students, and
you will know that both Moshe and Gali are living examples of the sweetness of both torah and tefilla. They and their
family have been generous enough to share their love and passion of the land of Israel and the torah of Israel, and
our community is enriched as a result.
And to our past shul presidents: none of this could have been possible without your tireless effort, love, and care for
our community. One can only imagine the countless hours that you have collectively put in on behalf of the shul,
whether through board meetings or committee meetings, attending events or soliciting donations. Words are not
adequate to express our appreciation for your friendship and generosity and for your determined leadership and
stewardship of our community.
May Hashem bless all of the honorees tonight with continued success, happiness, and health,
and may you all continue to go from strength to strength.

This year, BRS salutes a group of extraordinary individuals who have played leadership roles in the development
of our shul. Leadership comes in multiple forms. At one level, it consists of the officers elected by the congregation
to run the affairs of the shul. At another level, it consists of those charismatic individuals whose personalities
and talents inspire others and who lead by example. The individuals we honor at this year’s annual dinner come
from both categories.
Mike Senders is a perfect illustration of one who leads by example. I had the good fortune of meeting Mike and
his late wife, Peppy (Z”L) in the 1980s, when they joined our newly formed synagogue in Lauderhill, FL. At
that time, the Senders were “snowbirds” and spent only part of the year in our community. Nevertheless, they
had a tangible impact on the level of Yiddishkeit in our congregation. Always eager to share divrei Torah at
seudot shelishiet, Mike inspired others with his love of learning. When the Senders joined BRS in the early 1990s
and found the shul in the midst of a building campaign, Mike’s passion for learning led him to endow the Mike
and Peppy Senders Library. The sounds of Torah emanating from the library at all hours of the day and night
are fitting tributes both to Mike’s commitment and generosity and to the memory of his beloved wife. Mike’s
commitment to BRS is also evident by his long-time membership in the Pillar Society and by the commentaries on
Tefilla that he shares with us from time to time in the BRS Weekly.
Chazzan Moshe and Gali Nadav are beloved leaders of the Sephardic Minyan. To appreciate Moshe’s role, one
must understand that the members of this minyan come from both Moroccan and Middle Eastern traditions, each
with its own nusach. Moreover, in the Sephardic tradition, the Chazzan recites the tefillot in their entirety out
loud. It is unusual to find a Chazzan who is expert in both nusachot, but to the delight of the Sephardic Minyan,
Moshe is that rare individual. Leading the services every day, Moshe unites the community with his beautiful
renditions of the tefillot and involves the entire minyan in communal singing. Both Moshe and Gali are teachers
at Hillel Day School, where they serve as role models for their students. For their many contributions to our
community, Chazzan Moshe and Gali Nadav are most deserving of the Keter Shem Tov Award.
As we celebrate our 30th anniversary this year, it is also fitting that we pay tribute to our past presidents, whose
leadership, talent, and hard work helped pave the way to our current status as one of the flagship synagogues
in the country. Each of these individuals faced a unique set of challenges, and each marshaled the strength and
the resources to take BRS to the next level. Our appreciation extends not only to them, but to their spouses and
children as well, because every minute spent working on behalf of the shul was at the expense of time with their
families. As the current president of BRS, I have come to appreciate, even more than I did previously, their
dedication and their accomplishments. I know I speak for the entire congregation in expressing our profound
thanks for their leadership and for all they have contributed to the success of BRS.
Mazal tov and yashar koach to all of our honorees! May BRS always be blessed with great leaders.

Outreach Rabbi
It is so exciting to be celebrating another year of incredible accomplishments here at Boca Raton synagogue. It’s amazing to see how
BRS is still able to grow in its capacity and to create new and innovative programming that caters to all members of our community.
There is a good reason why this shul is known as the flagship Modern Orthodox synagogue in the United States: because there is truly
nowhere else that can match the length and breadth of its programming and ability to appeal to so many people from such diverse
backgrounds. What makes it even more exciting is there is always still more work to do and more to come in the future. In particular
the outreach program, the Boca Raton Jewish Experience, has really become a powerhouse to be reckoned with in the greater Jewish
community. Jews all over our community are finally finding a way to connect with something that they feel passionate about in Jewish
life. It is only due to the incredible efforts of the members of our community, the members of Boca Raton Synagogue, who are always on
the lookout for opportunities to help fellow Jews that they encounter. I am so proud to be able to call this community my home.
Tonight’s list of honorees is remarkable. It is nice to be able to call each and every one of them friends of ours. Our Journal Honoree,
Mike Senders, is a special man whom I truly admire and respect. Mike has always been there to offer advice when it comes to how I
should interpret and understand parts of the Torah and how or what would be the most effective way to teach those parts as well. He
has such a refreshing way of approaching a subject and you can feel how much he cares about each and every word he learns by the
way that he describes the lessons he’s trying to impart. Mike, I want to thank you for your continued support of the outreach program.
It means a lot to me. Mazal Tov on your well-deserved honor tonight.
Chazzan Moshe and Gali Nadav, the recipients of this year’s Keter Shem Tov Award, have added so much to our community. They are
so likeable and have won the hearts of adults and children in our community. They are an integral part of the success of the Sephardic
Minyan. They both have a gift of working with children. They have added immeasurably to the lives of the students they have had in Shul
and at Hillel Day School. I want to thank them personally for their enthusiasm and assistance at Vishinantam and other programs at the
Shul. I also want to thank them for their friendship and support personally. I wish them bracha and hatzlacha as they return to Israel.
They will be greatly missed!
Every one of the past presidents of BRS has contributed tremendously on behalf of the Shul and I want to thank them personally for all
that they have done to build and strengthen BRS. Our community has been fortunate to have such exemplary people lead our Shul. I am
so grateful that I’ve had the opportunity to work with most of you over the years in my different capacities at the Shul. Mazal Tov to all
the past presidents!
I want to thank the staff at Boca Raton Synagogue for once again making this year so successful. Linda, Kerry, Amy and Jamie, Theo and
Junior, Wendell & AJ, thank you all that you do!!! Matthew, our new and amazing Executive Director, thank you for your partnership
and allowing BRS and the BRJE to work so well together. Uri and Aliza, you have taken the youth department to an extraordinary level!
You both are so talented, creative, intelligent, and thoughtful! Phil, it’s hard to believe another year has gone by. I am so happy that you
and I had a chance to get to know one another so much better this year and become closer friends on all the programs and trips that we
shared! I got to see you in a way that many others don’t and I am blown away by the fabulous person you are and everything that you
do for BRS and the greater Jewish community. Rabbi Goldberg, my dear friend, my Rabbi, my amazing leader and king of the Empire,
there are really no words to describe the feelings that I have when it comes to working with you. You constantly amaze me and the
support that you have given me and the outreach program from the beginning has meant so much to Simone and I. We both appreciate
your guidance and assistance with the outreach department and with everything. I look forward to continued years together personally
and professionally.
I want to thank my sweet wife, Simone. I am very well aware that I could not do everything I do without her support. I sincerely thank
her for always keeping up with all my ideas and plans and doing so with a smile! I recognize that there is no better partner in life for me
than Simone. I love the fact that we are partners at work and at home! I love you! Lastly I want to thank my terrific kids Ayala, Avigayil,
Eliana, AJ, and Ahuva for participating in whatever programs I am involved in and for contributing In their own cute ways. Although
I am busy a lot of the time I want you to know you guys are my most precious accomplishment in life! I continue to feel
blessed to be part of this unique community and I feel grateful to have the privilege to work in this spectacular Shul
and I look forward to what’s to come!

Rabbi, BRS West
On behalf of the families of Boca Raton Synagogue West I would like to express our most heartfelt Mazal Tov to
the Rabbinic Staff, Lay Leadership, and to the entire community on the celebration of the synagogue’s thirtieth
anniversary. We at BRS West are fortunate to benefit from the amazing groundwork that was laid by the early
pioneers of BRS who worked diligently to bring forth what is today considered a flagship representation of
everything a synagogue can and should be.
As we at BRS West work to grow our satellite community we can fully understand the level of dedication of the
past Presidents who greatly deserve the nachas and pride of their achievements. From those who toiled early on
to get the shul off the ground to those who later added their own stamp, they each are due our thanks and a huge
Mazal Tov on being honored this evening.
Mike Senders is known to us former Clevelanders as someone who was always at the forefront of the leadership
of the Modern Orthodox synagogue community. We are fortunate that his move to Boca Raton has benefitted our
own community in such a powerful way.
Rabbi Moshe and Gali Nadav have proven to be amazing teachers of our children at Hillel Day School. We are
well aware of all that they have brought to this task including giving our students an appreciation for and love
of Torah and Eretz Yisrael. We wish them all the best on their return to the homeland.
As we begin the next thirty years of growth it is exciting for us to know that the BRS leadership continues to be
behind the efforts to expand the appreciation for diversity and Modern Orthodox Zionist philosophy beyond “the
Circle.” At BRS West we have created a family-friendly community where we all feel the warmth of Torah and
the unity that a small community shares. We extend an open invitation to the wider community to visit us for a
shabbat to experience the special atmosphere at BRS West.

On this day of Hakarat HaTov to the wonderful synagogue that we have created together, it is appropriate to recognize
such extraordinary individuals as Mike Senders, Chazzan Moshe & Gali Nadav, and our past presidents.
Mike, who was our neighbor for fourteen years, is a true shochen tov. For him, being a neighbor was about so much
more than proximity; it was about great concern for those around him and the larger Jewish community. He was so
kind to our family and even taught Yoni how to ride a bicycle. His precision, seen in the way he carefully manicures his
lawn, is even more apparent in the clarity of vision he brings to all conversations. A true Torah u’Mada personality, he
is always speaking deeply about nature, Torah, and all areas of philosophy. For a generation the Senders name has been
synonymous with leadership. This is due to his support for local initiatives in Cleveland and in Boca, as well putting on
the agenda of our North American Modern Orthodox community the need for a national movement promoting quality
Torah and religious Zionist education.
Chazzan Moshe & Gali, your energy and compassion to educate our students is admirable, and it is appreciated. The
Sephardic minyan is a key component of what makes Boca Raton Synagogue unique: multiple portals of spiritual entry
under one roof. It is an inspiring rarity in our day to have such a synagogue, and tonight we celebrate your work to
shepherd the Sephardic minyan and ensure its vitality and continued force in the tapestry of our synagogue.
Ruchie and I owe the past presidents of our community so much. We have worked with all of you and benefited so much
from your dedication and wisdom. We are the benefactors of your munificence, and not a day goes by that we don’t
realize how blessed we have been to have you in our lives. As a group and as individuals you exemplify what it means to
be “lay kodesh” – holy communal leaders.
May the synagogue continue to celebrate its wonderful legacy as a true makom Torah and Tefillah.

It is my great pleasure to welcome everyone to our 30th Anniversary Journal Dinner. We are honoring such wonderful pillars
of the community this year, and I feel blessed to have been able to work on making tonight’s event so special.
Our Journal Honoree, Mike Senders, is a leader of our community in every sense of the word. Mike can be found each day
sitting in the same seat at the daily Minyan. Watching Mike interact with people of all ages, especially his grandchildren, is
very heartwarming. Spending time with Mike has taught me a very valuable lesson: in order to connect with your children and
grandchildren you need to become interested in that which interests them. Mike is a role model to me personally and to all
those who interact with him on a daily basis.
Our Keter Shem Tov Award recipients, Chazzan Moshe and Gali Nadav, are true lights onto our community; they both have
such amazing hearts and will do anything to make sure that the people around them are happy and taken care of. The Nadavs
have been with us at BRS for a little more than six years, and it is truly sad to see them go. I feel so blessed to have known them
and have learned from them during their time here.
Lastly, in honor of our 30th Anniversary, we are paying tribute to our Past Presidents. While I have only been in the community
for the last six years, I am beyond proud to see how this community has grown, and I know that the BRS community would
not be anywhere near what it has become today without the dedication and hard work of everyone who held the position of
Synagogue President. It is for that reason that I am truly thankful to Dr. Israel Bruk, Steven Marcus Z”L, Dr. William Rand,
Dr. Aaron Kaweblum, Joe Dalezman, Jack Berkowitz Z”L, Martin Judovits, Rabbi Gabriel Ohayon, Mitchell Stiel, Jerry
Kaminetzky, Hommy Tannenbaum, Joseph Bensmihen, Jonathan Marriott, and Daniel Katz. May everyone gain much Nachas
from the great accomplishments that BRS continues to have for many years to come!
This amazing celebration does not just happen overnight. I would like to thank our Dinner Chairs, Chaim Elkoby, Glen Golish,
and Linda Melcer, for putting in the time and effort to truly make this a successful event. To our Dinner Honorees, Mike
Senders and Chazzan Moshe and Gali Nadav, thank you for taking such a hands-on approach to ensure that everything we
needed was received in a timely manner, and for checking in to see how we were doing, showing us how much this event truly
means to you. It was a true pleasure to work on this event in your honor.
Aliza, Amy, Jamie, Kerry, and Linda: knowing that I have the opportunity to work with each of you on a daily basis is what
drives me to be the best that I can be. Amy, Jamie, and Kerry, I cannot thank you enough for the amount of time you put into
every aspect of this Journal Dinner in order to make sure it went off flawlessly. Kerry, the Journal and the invitations are
gorgeous; thank you for all of your hard work and for making this a true labor of love. Theo and Junior, no one spends as
much time in the shul as you do. The genuine care and concern that you both show to ensure that the campus always looks
beautiful and your willingness to help our congregants with anything that they might need is very special. Rabbi Goldberg,
Rabbi Moskowitz, Rabbi Broide and Rabbi Pilichowski, you each push me to be the best person, mentor, leader, Executive
Director, and father I can be. I am forever appreciative to be able to call you my colleagues but more importantly to be able to
call you my friends. David Wolgin, working with you as the President is a wonderful experience; not a week goes by that I do
not learn something new from you. Thank you for your continued support and commitment to BRS.
Lastly, but certainly not least, I would like to thank my amazing wife, Tova. I know how much time I spend talking to you about
work, and I am sorry that my schedule is always crazy, but I cannot thank you enough for allowing me to put all of my heart
and soul into BRS. You are an amazing wife and an exceptional mother. Zev and I are very lucky to have you in our lives!

30th Anniversary Journal Dinner Chairs
It is a great honor and privilege to co-chair Boca Raton Synagogue’s 30th Anniversary Journal Dinner. We have a very unique
community with awesome leadership under our Mara D’atra, Rabbi Efrem Goldberg, as well as Rabbi Philip Moskowitz,
Rabbi Josh Broide, and Rabbi Uri Pilichowski. It is remarkable that such a diverse community, whose members represent
and reflect the entire cultural and religious spectrum of Orthodox Judaism worldwide, all turn to a single synagogue, under
a single roof, to seek inspiration, spirituality, and closeness with Hashem. This year’s honorees, Mike Senders, Chazzan
Moshe & Gali Nadav, and all of our Past Presidents have collectively devoted their energy, resources and time, both past and
present, to ensure that Boca Raton Synagogue continues to be a haven of Torah life.
Upon graduating from Yeshiva University, our Journal Honoree Mike Senders chose business as a profession. He founded
and was President of Plymart, a home improvement center in his native Cleveland, Ohio. Mike’s main business was, and
continues to be, M Senders Properties, a property management company. Mike and his wife Peppy Z”L lived most of their
lives in Cleveland where they raised four children. Mike served on the Board of Trustees of two of the local day schools, the
Hebrew Academy and Fuchs Mizrachi School, and as President of the Young Israel of Cleveland. They moved to Boca Raton
over 20 years ago where they became one of the first 50 member families of Boca Raton Synagogue. Their love of Torah
learning is perpetuated by the endowment of the Mike and Peppy Senders Library at BRS.
Chazzan Moshe & Gali Nadav, our Keter Shem Tov Award recipients, moved to our community in 2008 from Israel and
immediately became an integral part of our community. Chazzan Nadav’s beautiful voice can be heard leading services in
our Sephardic Minyan every day. He also tutors Bar Mitzvah boys and teaches Judaic Studies at Hillel Day School. Gali,
or Morah Gali as she is known to her students, has been a third grade Judaic Studies teacher at Hillel Day School for the
last six years. Her love of Limudei Kodesh and her positive attitude make her an amazing teacher. She is loved by all of her
students and friends. Together Chazzan Moshe and Gali are raising their five beautiful daughters: Ruth, Sapir, Adi, Tamar,
and Shira Miriam.
Thirty years ago, Boca Raton Synagogue was just a dream. No one could have ever imagined that the tiny little Shul known
as BRS would become the flagship Synagogue that it has become, boasting a community of over 715 families, including
more than 1,000 children, and amazing programming for adults and students of all ages. This dream became a reality
due to the vision and guidance of our past presidents who gave of their time and resources to lead our congregation and
community from those early days until today. For this reason, we pay tribute to the following individuals at this year’s 30th
Anniversary Journal Dinner: Dr. Israel Bruk, Steven Marcus Z”L, Dr. William Rand, Dr. Aaron Kaweblum, Joe Dalezman,
Jack Berkowitz Z”L, Martin Judovits, Rabbi Gabriel Ohayon, Mitchell Stiel, Jerry Kaminetzky, Hommy Tannenbaum, Joseph
Bensmihen, Jonathan Marriott, and Daniel Katz.
We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who has joined us this evening to pay tribute to our Honorees. We
owe an enormous thank you to our generous Tribute Committee sponsors who have helped make our 30th Anniversary Journal
Dinner one of the most successful ones to date. Our gratitude goes to everyone who generously and selflessly contributed ads
in this evening’s Ad Journal.
In addition we would like to thank Loren Stein for designing our beautiful cover illustration and magnificent gifts for our
honorees. A special thank you to Kerry Purcell for her cover design for our invitations and all of her tireless work that
went into creating this beautiful Journal, and to Amy Downs and Jamie Lebersfeld for all of their hard work to make sure
everything came together for this amazing night.
Additionally, we would like to thank Doug & Claudia Cohen for taking pictures tonight, and Lorys Stiel who, like every year,
assisted us with the seating arrangement for tonight’s Dinner. We are also very grateful to Binyamin Muschel for proofreading
and editing this Journal. A special THANK YOU to Matthew Hocherman who makes our dreams become a reality.
May Hashem continue to bless our honorees and their families and give them the strength to continue doing Mitzvot.

Boca Raton Synagogue
Dear Mr. Hocherman:
It is always an honor to share words of greeting with the members and friends of Boca Raton Synagogue,
and the 30 th anniversary journal dinner is an especially joyous occasion. BRS is renowned nationwide as the
kehillah others aspire to emulate. Such status is the product of many contributors, only a few of whom are
being recognized tonight.
Journal Honoree Mike Senders is a businessman of renown, founding the hom e improvement center Plymart
in Cleveland as well as the property management company M Senders Properties. There, with his wife Peppy
a”h and their four children, he became active in all aspects of the Jewish community. The same held true
upon relocating to Boca Raton more than two decades ago. Among their many contributions to the
community was the endowment of the Mike and Peppy Senders Library at BRS.
Chazzan Moshe and Gali Nadav are being honored with the Keter Shem Tov Award. Chazzan Moshe and Gali
came to Boca Raton from Israel, where they were involved with eretz Yisrael, am Yisrael and Torat Yisrael.
Arriving in Boca, they joined BRS, where the Chazzan became the voice of the Sephardic minyan. Chazzan
Moshe and Gali – who have five daughters - both teach Judaic Studies at Hillel Day School, further placing
their mark on the community through its most precious resource – our youth.
Finally, in recognition of its storied legacy, BRS is honoring the shul’s past presidents: Dr. Israel Bruk, Steven
Marcus a”h, Dr. William Rand, Dr. Aaron Kaweblum, Joe Dalezman, Jack Berkowitz a”h, Martin Judovits,
Rabbi Gabriel Ohayon, Mitchell Stiel, Jerry Kaminetzky, Hommy Tannenbaum, Joseph Bensmihen, Jonathan
Marriott, and Daniel Katz. Each of these gentlemen has played a unique role helping BRS to become the
remarkable institution it is today.
On behalf of the entire Orthodox Union, I congratulate the honorees, mara d’asra Rabbi Efrem Goldberg,
President Dr. David Wolgin, dinner chairs Chaim Elkoby, Glen Golish and Linda Melcer, and the entire Boca
Raton Synagogue family. We look forward to your continuing and growing successes over the next three
decades.

Jerry Kaminetzky, Past President of BRS, embodies this quote.
To our dear Machetanistas, spouse, father, and Zayda -- Jerry Kaminetzky.
You are an amazing role model whose chesed knows no bounds.
You are a shining example of a patriarch who is caring, compassionate,
giving, respectful, and loved by everyone who interacts with you.
May you and all your fellow honorees continue to be blessed with a
life filled with good health and happiness for many years to come.

‫וראה בנים לבניך שלום על ישראל‬
“May you see the children of your children, peace be upon Israel.”
(Psalms 128:6)
Dear Dad,
In one of your favorite quotes from Sefer Tehilim, you have wondered about the
curious juxtaposition between seeing one’s grandchildren and peace coming to
Israel. In your wisdom you have put forth the interpretation that more than
visually “seeing” your grandchildren, the real blessing of King David is “seeing
eye to eye” with them. When the generations share values, it creates a peaceful
and harmonious relationship that extends beyond the nuclear family.
We believe that your insight can be extended to one’s communal family as
well. When you live in a community with rabbis with whom you are personally
connected and where you are able to relate religiously with multiple generations
of friends and neighbors, then truly there is “Shalom Al Yisrael.”
Dad, we are proud to carry on the religious legacy that you and Mom z’l have
bequeathed to us. And we give Hakarat Hatov to Boca Raton Synagogue for
becoming part of our extended family in Florida. May you continue to be a role
model for us, your community and all of the Jewish people, “Ad Meah V’esrim.”

simchas hachaim, and genuine warmth. We have learned so much about
davening, emunah, chesed and more from you. We feel so blessed to share a
special closeness with you and we look forward to many more shabbos and yom
Tov meals together. May HaShem continue to bless you with health, happiness,
and nachas from your wonderful family.
To Gali &Chazzan Moshe Nadav,
Having you in our community for the past few years has been incredible. We have
gained so much from you and from the sweet, bright, and wonderful people you
are. Your family has played such an integral role in the Sephardic minyan and in
all of our lives and we will miss you terribly. We wish you much mazel and bracha
as you “go home” and embark on this next chapter of your lives.
To all of the Past Presidents of BRS,
There are no words that are adequate enough to properly express the tremendous
feeling of hakaras hatov that we have for you and all that you have done for BRS
and for us. It is because of you that we are able to enjoy and participate in all that
BRS has to offer. We feel so fortunate to have had you at the helm and we are truly

Dearest, Morah Gali and Rabbi Nadav:
Mazal Tov on this well-deserved honor and recognition!
Morah Gali, you have been the most amazing Third Grade
Judaics teacher to our children at Hillel. Your warmth,
happiness, kindness, and love of our Torah have made you
and Rabbi Nadav the best role models for our children.
For that we will forever be grateful.
We wish you, Ruth, Sapir, Adi, Tamar, and Shira Miriam,
much good health and success when you return to Israel!
Mazal Tov to Mike Senders on this well-deserved honor.
Wishing you good health and much Nachat from

JOURNAL DINNER HONOREES…
Mr. Mike Senders, your generosity to our shul and your
love of davening are an inspiration to me, my family and our community.
I thoroughly enjoy watching you daven in a meticulous, deliberate, and
meaningful way and continuously draw strength from your love of tefillah.
May Hashem continue to bless you with good health, happiness, and
nachas from your beautiful family.
Chazzan Moshe and Gali Nadav, the two of
you are incredible role models and represent the sweetness of Torah. You
have meant so much to our community and we appreciate your sharing
your love and passion for Israel, the Jewish People, Torah learning, and
tefilah with our community.
Past Presidents, thank you, thank you, thank you. The
community that we enjoy today is the fruit of your collective efforts. We
know your job has sometimes been thankless, but from the bottom of our
hearts we appreciate all that you have done to make BRS such a special

A TRIBUTE TO THE PAST
SYNAGOGUE PRESIDENTS
Dr. Israel Bruk – for having the vision to purchase five acres and welcoming a young rabbi who
thought he had all the answers and educating him to be more reflective.
Steven Marcus Z”L - You left us too soon. You would be proud of what BRS has become and the
wonderful families your children have created.
Dr. William Rand – Thank you for never saying “No” and always showing us how challenges
can become opportunities.
Dr. Aaron Kaweblum – The sense of caring for fellow members during their sad and joyous
times is a key component of BRS - one that you and your family ensured is part of the
community’s genetic makeup.
Joe Dalezman – We came to this shul when the whole community could fit in your living room
and you had the tenacity to plant seeds that continue to grow.
Jack Berkowitz Z”L – We miss you. Know that our child that you held as sandek at his brit
serves in the IDF and represents the values you lived for.
Martin Judovits – Thank you for being our B’tzalel. “Build it and they will come” was your
motto before it was popular. You created our field of dreams.
Rabbi Gabriel Ohayon - Under your presidency the campus began to expand, and you kept
the shul together at very tumultuous times – people have no clue of how much we are in your
debt.
Mitchell Stiel – You are the truest model of what it means to be lay kodesh – a holy selfless
communal leader. A regal man of dignity and respect. We love you.
Jerry Kaminetzky – Thank you for bringing constitutional order to a synagogue that was in
desperate need of structure.
Hommy Tannenbaum – Dreaming is possible with fiscal responsibility and you proved it.
Joseph Bensmihen - We have known each other for decades and you continue to model for us
how adversity can become a non-issue in achieving one’s goals.
Jonathan Marriott – Your stay in Boca was too short but what you accomplished endures a
lifetime.
Daniel Katz – A Kohen who is not only invested in ensuring the continuity of Jewish tradition
but a Jew who is committed to guaranteeing its relevance.

Mike Senders,
You are an unbelievable person, always teaching me life lessons in how to be a better person and, more importantly, how to be a better father. Watching you interact
with members of the community as well as with members of your family is a true
example of how to act as a person. I am so very grateful that I have had the pleasure
to get to know you and be able to call you my friend.
Chazzan Moshe & Gali Nadav,
Tova and I think you are both the most amazing, warm-hearted, caring individuals.
Chazzan Nadav, it is always a true pleasure to watch you lead the Sephardic Minyan
with your beautiful voice. You are always so happy, and that excitement carries over
to the lives of the people you touch on a daily basis. Morah Gali, it has been wonderful working with you, and seeing how much the children love and respect you is
awe-inspiring. You are an amazing and caring teacher who has not only taught our
community’s children but your colleagues as well. I will miss seeing your smiling
face every day.

In Tribute to Our
I was not around in the early years of BRS, but just seeing what this Shul and
community has become over the last 30 years is absolutely breathtaking. Without
each of you guiding the directions the Shul should go during your presidencies, we
would not be where we are today: a thriving community of over 700 families that
calls BRS home, and one of the largest Orthodox Synagogues in the United States. I
am forever indebted to all of you for having the dreams and foresight to make this
community a reality!

Holocaust Memorial Committee and sits on the Board of the Museum of Jewish Heritage.
