In the 18th century Napoleon used it for barracks and then became a national monument in 1870. It’s best to visit in the morning, or in the late afternoon. If you go south you will want to pack light (shorts, t-shirts, dresses etc.) If you go north you should pack normal (jeans, tshirts, maybe sweatshirt). Spaniards are stylish, so take caution when packing. By: Val WHEN TO GO • • July and August are very hot and is not smart to go during these months. During this time Madrid is usually empty due to vacations. The best months to go are May, June, and September. April and October are good if you’re going south. By: Val CUSTOMS AND COURTESIES • • • • Polite Phrases- Hola= Hi, Como estas? = How are you?
