as a way of life in an organisation’s operations.
Lean manufacturing is an area of interest for many
organisations towards productivity improvement and
work flow efficiency improvement. Two Lean
missions were undertaken to Lean industries in
Chennai and Bangalore by CII – IQ which were
participated by more than 50 delegates from 27
companies. The mode of education on Lean
organisations through Study missions has been
acclaimed by the participants as an unique and
effective way of learning. 19 companies were added to
the list of TPM Award winners this year. With 220
awards among 156 organisations, India is the second
largest award winning nation after Japan.
Cost arbitrage was the prime driver for international
partnerships with Indian industries in yesteryears. The
partnership thrived on the reasons of Quality
subsequently and would survive on Innovation going
forward. “Innovation of Quality – Quality of
Innovation” was the theme of the 20th edition of the
National Quality Summit. Acknowledging the services
of CII in the areas of productivity improvement in
Indian industry, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of
Karnataka Mr Jagdish Shettar recommended the
constitution of Karnataka State Innovation Council
besides constituting Vision Groups on Biotechnology
and Information Technology. The speakers in the
Quality Summit emphasised that Quality and
Innovation are two pillars that would lead India to its
next level of glory.
“Accelerating Organisational improvements through
Business Excellence approaches” was the theme of the
First National Conclave on Business Excellence which
was conducted along with the 11th Anniversary day of
CII – IQ. Calling for the need to rethink on the crucial
and critical leadership challenges facing India, Mr
Suresh Kumar, Minister for Urban Development,
Govt. of Karnataka pointed out the role CII – IQ needed
to play in furthering the excellence and quality
movements in the country towards the same. The event
focussed on the quality of leadership as a means of
achieving business excellence. Enough thrust was
given by industry champions from different sectors to
promote the need for becoming World class
organisations and KM, Leadership, Innovation,
Customer focus and People practices as the means of
accomplishing it.

education, Technology, Quality environment for
Innovation, learning methodologies brought out the
paradigm shift witnessed in the educational sector.
“Credible Laboratory practices – building confidence
nationwide” was the theme of First National conclave
for Laboratories. It was emphasised in the conclave
that building credibility in the laboratories of
Measurements and calibration automatically brings in
the required trust in the quality of products produced in
India and acceptance in the global market. The one of
its kind conference brought industries, R & D
organisations, Regulatory and governmental agencies,
accredited and non accredited labs and others together
towards keeping pace with the changes in the in
demand and expectations of user groups and scientific
community.
Inclusive education seeks to develop the potential in
every individual. This flexible system targets to
eliminate all forms of discrimination while meeting the
basic learning needs of all in the country. In order to
accomplish this, the methods and material used in the
school education system need to be focused.
Community empowerment and bridging social
disparities are elements of Inclusive education.
Through a strategic tie up between CII – IQ and British
Standards institution, a series of Risk Management
seminars were conducted during the year across the
country. Risk management has assumed enormous
importance and key aspect of an organisations’
operations and business in any sector. Though this
subject has been in practice for a long time, the new
instabilities in the market and inherent risk factors in an
networked world makes this aspect of business conduct
a paramount importance. Technical, environmental,
cultural, regional, financial and geo-political risks
forms a part of an organisation’s risk profile and it is
essential that all sectors of Indian industry are fully
educated and made aware of the need for a
comprehensive risk assessment and mitigation plan.
CII – IQ is determined to support the industry in this
critical need.
The National Summit on Quality in Education touched
upon various aspects of improving the education
standards in the country in line with the vision of Dr
Abdul Kalam. The importance of innovation in the
field of education has been indicated as the decisive
consideration to help to stimulate economic and
knowledge growth in the country, according to
National Knowledge Commission. Sessions on School
In a significant move, the Directorate of Education,
Andamans and Nicobar Administration is
implementing a new initiative called “Project
Shikshotam” towards improving school education in
the Islands with the partnership of CII – IQ. An MOU
for the same was signed during the year and under this
agreement a roadmap for implementing the initiative in
Govt. Schools managed by Andaman and Nicobar
Administration would be developed. A cluster of 10
schools would work together towards improving their
practices and performances through mutual sharing
and learning.
In summary, the year 2012 has been a remarkable year
for CII – Institute of Quality. This unique institute for
enhancing quality and competitiveness provided its
best to its membership across the various industry
sectors, the value it is expected to provide. With an
unstinted focus and effort towards enriching its
products and services, CII – IQ takes the next step in its
journey towards becoming a world class organisation
for Training and consulting.

Speaking on “Role of Top Management in quality focused
companies”, Mr Jayadev Galla, Past Chairman - Young
Indians (YI), CII & Managing Director, Amara Raja
Batteries Ltd emphasizing on the transition from best to
next practices, noted that unlike Japan and Korea, the
Indian growth story was propelled by its internal demand.
The outsourcing opportunities that came to India were
primarily based on cost consideration stayed on for
quality and would survive on innovation. Quality and
Innovation, he said, should be revolutionary and not
evolutionary and that at the heart of every innovation was
an effective, positive and constructive rebellion.
Companies, he said, citing his own organizational
experiences should move from a disciplined mindset to a
synthesizing mindset. He also cautioned between the
internationally acknowledged “Indian juggad” and
“chalta hai”. While the former was positive in nature, the
latter symbolized a laid back attitude which needed to be
avoided.
In his address, Mr T C A Ranganathan, Chairman and
Managing Director, Export-Import Bank of India
acknowledged the rewarding relationship with CII in the
CII-EXIM Bank Award for Business Excellence process.
5
ANNUAL REPORT 2012
Recollecting his earlier banking experiences, he said that
organizations need to benchmark their quality levels
based on competition which should perpetually be
re-engineered. Innovation, he clarified, was not just
intrinsic but was what one did with the ecosystem. In a
shrinking market where it is difficult for an organization
to grow, it was important to reinvest in technology and
align processes. “The primary judge of sensible
innovation is the market place” he said quoting China’s
example of cumulating its procurements for cost
reduction.
Earlier in his opening remarks, Mr N Kumar, Chairman,
CII Institute of Quality & Vice Chairman, The Sanmar
Group reiterating the Institute of Quality’s commitment to
continue building an India full of Quality as over the past
30 years, recalled the significant decision to set up a
National Committee on Quality with Dr V Krishnamurthy
as Chairman, effectively establishing a private public
partnership in the road to a Quality India. This year’s
theme on Innovation provided a new face to quality in this
journey. Innovation, he said, had become a global issue
being addressed by National Governments. While every
member of the European Union had its national policy,
USA passed an Innovation Act in 2005 and India founded
the Knowledge Commission headed by Mr Sam Pitroda in
2005. The Summit, he said, would focus with case studies
on the two pillars “Quality” and “Innovation” to move
India further. Together with the presence of eminent
national and international practitioners like Dr Richard
Schonberger, Mr Yukihiro Ando, Mr Marc Amblard,
Mr Bernad Gracia, Dr Scott Steedman and Mr Paul Phyall

A cross section of the participants in the National Quality Summit
Recalling the contribution of two world leaders Mahatma
Gandhi and Nelson Mandela and the hardships that they
had earlier undergone to go on to create two major social
changes in India and South Africa, Mr Suresh Kumar,
Minister of Urban Development, Government of
Karnataka called for a rethink on the crucial and critical
leadership challenges facing the nation. CII Institute of
Quality needed to play a significant role in further
championing excellence and the quality movement in the
country he said while delivering the Inaugural address on
the 11th Anniversary Day of the CII Institute of Quality
and the First Edition of National Business Excellence
Conclave 2012 with the theme “Accelerating
organizational improvement through Business Excellence
Approaches”
Delivering the keynote address on this occasion, Mr R
Seshasayee, Executive Vice Chairman, Ashok Leyland
and Past President CII expounded on the changing role
of quality in the workplace. “The discipline of processes
on the shop-floor, plunging ppm rates and customer
satisfaction, comprising the founding tenets of quality,
was a passé”, he said. Examples cited included on how
tactics had become more relevant as a means of staying
ahead in business; a shift away from the regimentation of
process control. “The judgment of assessing latent
demand” was a game changer and needed to be inculcated
in the decision making process”, he said. He further
emphasized on the attention needed in the strategic
decision making process among the top leadership.
“Creative intuition as a differentiator was needed for the
induction leap” he said indicating that budding leaders

L-R: Mr L Krishnan, Chairman, CII Karnataka; Mr R Seshasayee, Past President, CII; Mr Suresh Kumar, Minister of Urban Development,
Govt. of Karnataka; Mr N Kumar, Chairman, CII IQ; Mr Ravi Venkatesan, Board Member, Infosys & Former Chairman of Microsoft & Mrs
Greeta Varughese, Sr. Director & Head, CII IQ
needed to be taught this through the growth of compatible
and conducive eco-systems within the organization.
The IQ Anniversary Lecture was delivered by Mr Ravi
Venkatesan, Board Member, Infosys & Former
Chairman of Microsoft India who delved on the
existing crisis of leadership amidst opportunities. He
eloquently brought out how the leadership pipeline within
the organization can be created and nurtured like
“blowing oxygen into the spark”. He further elaborated on
how such sparks could be identified amongst potential
leaders. He postulated that there are two critical character
traits necessary for leadership positions namely Courage
and High Ambition. Further, competencies of “learning
agility” backed by a track record of taking great “people
decisions” are the needs of future leaders. He felt that for
creating successful leadership policies, companies
needed to hold current leaders accountable for the
development of leaders, their betting on young talent and
exposing them to larger cross-functional roles including
overseas stints. “There is a definite need to integrate
Strategy and Leadership decisions,” he concluded.
Earlier in his opening remarks, Mr N Kumar, Chairman,
CII Institute of Quality & Vice Chairman, The
Sanmar Group while elaborating on the growth of the
Quality Movement led by CII and its National Committee
over the last two decades, enumerated the latest initiatives
being undertaken by the Institute of Quality.

ANNUAL REPORT 2012
Mr L Krishnan, Chairman, CII Karnataka State
Council & Managing Director, Taegutec India Pvt Ltd
in his concluding remarks once again reiterated the
importance of leadership and its concomitant qualities for
organizations to flourish.
A highlight of the day’s function was the formal handing
over of the application package developed by Tata
Consultancy Services (TCS) to CII-IQ; a Java based
software that would automate the Award Management
process for the CII EXIM Bank Business Excellence
Award. CII-IQ implemented this application from this
year’s Award programme itself. Under the leadership of
Dr N M Bhatta, a team of experts from TCS developed the
Award Management Module for the CII EXIM Bank
Business Excellence Award which was formally handed
over to CII-IQ during the Institute’s 11th Anniversary Day
celebrations on 9th May coinciding with the First Edition
of National Business Excellence Conclave 2012. CII-IQ
sincerely appreciates Team TCS’s kind gesture and
goodwill to support its Excellence movement and Award
process.
A significant improvement that is being made to the
Award assessment from this year is the change in the
Award Assessment Process of the CII-EXIM Bank Award
for Business Excellence. The consensus and the site visit
are combined into a single stage onsite assessment
(previously done separately in two stages).
Implementation of the Award Management Module
would enable award secretariat to carry out detailed
analysis of data and bring out more useful inputs for
research on organisations practicing Business Excellence
in India.
The Business Excellence Model propagated by CII
Institute of Quality, is a business model which has helped
hundreds of organizations around the globe to strive for
Sustainable Excellence. It provides a common
framework and language that facilitates the effective
sharing of information between organizations,
transcending sectoral, cultural and maturity barriers.
Adoption of Business Excellence framework as a
management approach, enables organizations to
address challenges effectively and comprehensively to
differentiate themselves from the rest.
The National Business Excellence Conclave, organised
by the CII Institute of Quality on 9 & 10 May, 2012 in

1st National Conclave for Laboratories organised
The 1st National Conclave for Laboratories was jointly
organized and conducted by CII Institute of Quality and
National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration
Laboratories (NABL) on 4th and 5th April 2012.
Measuring systems and laboratory practices have
undergone significant transformation in the last 2
decades. Global developments such as the emergence of
accreditation systems, technical regulations, and
enhanced use and reliance on voluntary conformity
assessments have pitched the need to have reliable test
and calibration results center-stage. India has kept pace
with these developments by setting up one of the earliest
accreditation frame-works. However the increased
expectations and the sheer volumes present new
challenges in sustaining credibility’s nationwide. In view
of these challenges, the first Conclave was held on the
theme ‘Credible Laboratory Practices-building
confidence nationwide’.
Participants from various sectors like Industries,
Laboratories (accredited and non-accredited), R&D
institutions, Equipment manufacturers, Regulators and
Governmental organizations attended the Conclave.
UNIDO supported the event by sponsoring delegates
from SAARC region.
The conclave was inaugurated by Dr T Ramasamy,
Secretary, Department of Science and Technology. Mr N
Kumar, Chairman-CII-IQ welcomed the delegates and
emphasized on the relevance of the Conclave in light of
the increasing importance of testing not only for
businesses but also for the common man. Dr T Ramasamy
in his inaugural address dwelled on the theme of the
conclave –building credibility for Indian laboratories
which played an important part in enhancing the
acceptance of domestic produced goods in the global
markets. He said that credibility had to be earned which
needed a lot of hard work and discipline. He added that
nationwide confidence implies building partnerships and
exhorted organizations like NABL, CII and NPL to work
together. He said that laboratories should become
custodians of trust and also develop a service orientation,
which together will lead them to success in the long run
and help build credibility. Dr Ramaswamy applauded the
effort put in by CII in organizing the laboratory conclave
which brought together all the stakeholders connected
with testing and measurements on a common platform for
the first time. Prof R C Budhani, Director, National
Physical Laboratory said that the entire programme of
Quality & Conformity Assessment is undergoing a
process of change and therefore the respective
organizations such as NPL (India’s National Metrological
Institute), NABL and BIS need to respond to the enhanced
expectations and demands of the user groups as well as the
scientific community.

ANNUAL REPORT 2012
The technical session on ‘Enhancing reliability of
laboratory practices – International & National
developments and future strategies’ set the tone for the
conclave. Mr Anil Relia, Director, NABL spoke about
policy perspectives for laboratory accreditation at
National and International level and the work done over
the past decade in mobilizing mass recognition for the
laboratory accreditation programme, which now has
more than 1650 laboratories under its fold. In the past
couple of years, the notable participation of the clinical,
diagnostic and blood bank laboratories is a watershed in
enhancing the quality of medical care in India. The
challenge lies, he said, in the sustenance of the system as
more and more laboratories join the fold. Dr Ashish
Bandopadyay, Chief Scientist NPL talked about India’s
participation and contribution in the global reference
standards and unveiled plans of a participative
programme for developing certified reference materials
in India, that will not only help improve reliability of
results but also reduce dependence on imported CRMs.
Mr C K Maheshwari, Chief (Laboratories), BIS spoke on
the role played by BIS as a National Standards Body in the
development of standards on metrology and testing. Mr
Anupam Kaul, Principal Counsellor, CII-IQ introduced
the Conclave theme to the audience and informed on the
catalytic role being played by CII in the past couple of
years in promoting credible laboratory practices and
accreditation. He also mentioned that the understanding
developed between CII and NABL is being translated into
a series of national level interventions to the advantage of
Indian industry.
A session on “National System and Global Demand Bridging the gap” was addressed by Mr Dilip
Gianchandani, Country Head, Intertek Services who
highlighted the convergence of conformity assessment
systems globally and how testing and calibrations were
integrated with certification schemes. Dr T Venkatesh,
Professor Emeritus- St John's National Academy of
Health Sciences, Bangalore spoke on how advancements
in diagnostic services is enhancing India’s preference as a
destination for medical tourism.
In the session on ‘Building credibility in laboratory
results’ Dr S K Saxena, Director, Export Inspection
Council spoke on acceptance of lab results in
International trade through mutual recognitions. India’s
export of fish and other food products depended largely
on the tests conducted in laboratories that were approved
in conformance to the standards demanded by the
24
importing region’s technical requirements such as the EC
Regulations. It was imperative, he said that laboratories
sustain the high performance levels as any consignment
rejection by an importing country not only leads to
financial but also reputation loss to the country. This
session also highlighted the importance of Proficiency
testing providers and Certified Reference Material in
ensuring the reliability of test results through two very
well researched presentations by NABL Lead Assessors,
Mr S Subramanian and Ms Shobha Hegde.
As a conscious effort to provide latest developments in the
areas of laboratory practices, a session ‘New Concepts in
laboratory practices’ covered presentations on creation of
energy efficient laboratories by Mr Sathya Murthy,
Managing Director. Kewaunee Scientific Corporation
India Ltd. Mr Robert Benz, Director, AIS, USA, presented
a very informative overview on advances in laboratory
information management systems. In another session on

There was a broad consensus that the National Conclave,
should be an annual feature, as it provided a common
platform to share, discuss and evolve policy on all critical
and emerging issues relating to testing, calibration and
laboratory management practices.
Managing risks in turbulent times
Hence, formal models to deal with risks on an organized
basis have become necessary. The old order of gradual
change is giving way to dealing with sudden shocks
heralding the possible decimation of long term
forecasting and the acceptance of living on the edge as the
new corporate mantra for survival where flexibility and
agility would be survival attributes. The recently
published ISO 31000 Standard captures all elements that
constitute a holistic framework for identifying and
managing enterprise wide risks, encouraging
organizations to adopt a risk based approach in everything
they do.
Speaking at the Delhi Seminar, Mr P K Chophla, General
Manager, IT, Reserve Bank of India said that in the shift
from the de-coupled world, globalization had made risk
into a global function. “Among the thousands of
imponderables which could affect an organization, a good
Risk Management System would help identify points
which need immediate attention”. Even though some of
the latest standards such as BASEL 3 were prescriptive,
they were not in conflict with framework Standards such
as ISO 31000 and could be implemented together to
realize maximum benefit.
Mr P K Chophla, General Manager, IT, Reserve Bank of India
delivering the keynote address at the Imperative of Risk
Management in Turbulent Times Seminar in New Delhi on 31
January 2012. Others from left: Mr Anupam Kaul, Principal
Counselor, CII-IQ, Prof Krishna Kumar, IIM Lucknow and Mr
Venkataram Arabolu, Managing Director, British Standards
Institution (BSI)
CII Institute of Quality and British Standards Institution
(India) jointly organized a series of 4 Risk Management
Seminars in the country (Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and
Hyderabad) on the theme “The Imperative of Risk
Management in Turbulent Times”.
Though Risk management has been in practice for long,
its need is being felt even more due to market instabilities
and the inter-dependencies in a networked world. The
twin downturn of the global economy in quick succession,
the incredible downgrading of the US, monetary deficits
of several European nations hovering on brinks of
bankruptcy, the uncertainty around the fate of Kyoto
Protocol, spurt in dollar demand, the wild swings in oil
and gold prices, and natural turbulences such as the
Iceland ash and Japanese Tsunami disrupting businesses
world-wide, all in a span of 3-4 years, have driven
unprecedented volatility and turbulences.
Mr Venkataram Arabolu, Managing Director, British
Standards Institution (BSI), tracing the evolution of Risk
Management said that its genesis was derived from
corporate failures, more so as there was not much
dialogue in organizations on this subject where the lead
remained with the Chief Financial Officer instead of the
Chief Risk Officer. Defining risk as “effect of uncertainty
on objectives” he also detailed the 7 “golden truths” of
Risk Management and underlined the need for
organization to undertake risk profiling to meet future
challenges.
Prof Krishna Kumar, IIM Lucknow detailed factors like
increase in competitors, excess capacity creation, greater
global integration, disruptive changes in business
environment, opportunistic behavior of firms and the
occasional failure of regulatory mechanisms as factors
leading to high risks. The ease of technology import and
resources, while having reduced the business cycles in
developing countries, had made it incumbent to practice
strategic management with periodic review and revision
in the developing world. Acknowledging that risks
differed from size and age of organizations, he
emphasized on Product design which needed to be
“embedded in local/domestic endowments”
25
ANNUAL REPORT 2012
to create a competitive edge. He also emphasized on
factors like cost control, concern for other
stakeholders/partners, output based planning, modular
expansions to match rise in demand and exploiting asset
potentials as risk mitigators.
Mr Anupam Kaul, Principal Counselor, Confederation
of Indian Industry said that such Seminars help demystify
the subject and present simple approaches in identifying
and managing risks in day to day work across the various
sectors.
The Seminar series greatly assisted Indian managers to
master these twin challenges, which operate both at
strategic and operational level under volatile and
turbulent times and help them incubate resilience to
anticipate the unexpected, prepare to deal with
uncertainties and convert adversities into opportunities.

With a paradigm shift in teaching learning methodologies,
there is an accompanying need to bring about changes in
evaluation/ assessment techniques also. The relationship
between assessment practices and the overall quality of

Administration is implementing a new initiative titled “Project
Shikshotam” towards the improvement of quality of school
education in Andaman & Nicobar Islands through a partnership
with CII Institute of Quality.
Islands through a partnership with CII Institute of Quality.
To formalize the partnership, a Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) was executed on 11th April 2012
between Directorate of Education and CII Institute of
Quality, Bangalore. The MOU was signed by the Director
of Education, A&N Administration and Senior Director
and Head, CII Institute of Quality at Secretariat, Port
Blair in the presence of Chief Secretary. Commissioner &
Secretary (Education), Mr Bhupinder S Bhalla, Secretary,
Education, A&N Administration, Dr A Senthil Kumaran
Principal Counsellor-Education Excellence & others
were also present.
Under the MoU, CII Institute of Quality will help and
assist the Directorate of Education in facilitating
development of roadmap for implementation of Project
Shikshotam in government schools managed by A&N
Administration. This would include the facilitation of
development of a vision document. It will also develop a
cluster of 10 schools, which would work together towards
improving their practices and performance, through
mutual sharing and learning. These schools would
undertake a journey based on an agreed roadmap with the
aim of achieving accreditation by NABET.
Based on the learning & progress made during the process
implementation of the first cluster, more school clusters
may be added over a period of time to accelerate the pace
and scale of implementation of the project.
TFFS approached CII IQ for help in enhancing school
effectiveness. A two day ‘School Excellence Program’
was conducted for the school staff, at the end of which it
was agreed to implement the Quality Control of India
(QCI) – National Accreditation Board for Education and
Training (NABET) School Governance Standards, and
work towards getting the accreditation in the process.
Starting from July 2010, the CII IQ Education Excellence
team worked towards laying the foundation for the
NABET accreditation.
After an initial visit for gap analysis, the CII IQ teamof
counsellors trained the core team at TFFS in TQM
principles, QCI framework, process-mapping and selfassessment using QCI School Governance Standards.
These were followed by counselling sessions to help
TFFS in process mapping and implementation. A group of
assessors was identified and periodic self-assessments of
the school were done to evaluate the progress.
As a result of these efforts, the school has developed an
all-encompassing, robust process manual which acts a
guide and reference for decision-making. Some of the
specific key outputs of this counselling journey have
been:
?
Review of vision and mission
?
Review of school’s objectives
?
Creation of organisation chart
?
Defining roles and responsibilities
?
Planning of resources
?

ANNUAL REPORT 2012
CII Institute of Quality, Bangalore
The CII Institute of Quality Bangalore has been sponsored
by ABB Ltd and is spread over 4 acres of scenic land on
the western outskirts of the garden city. The Institute is a
modern piece of eye-catching architecture blending into
the hilly terrain in which it is located.
The building has been designed to be eco-friendly, with
minimum impact on the environment and using green
energy on saving technologies.
The landscaping has been designed to enhance the beauty
of the surroundings and provide a peaceful ambience
suited to an institute of learning. Some of the unique
features of the building as are follows
.
Passive Downdraft Environmental Cooling (PDEC)
At the very outset, CII decided to introduce
environmental cooling instead of costly and energy
hungry air conditioning. Accordingly, PEDC was
integrated into the architecture at the design stage.
This system has been developed after study of ancient
public buildings and palaces in India, which were
instrumented to record all aspects of indoor air quality.
The data recorded over a period of one year was then used
to design a CAD programme, for adaptation and design of
cooling systems for buildings. Basically, the system
consists of 15-meter tall wind catchers, which are towers
36
that capture and deflect airflow into a large plenum
chamber, which is located adjacent to the main building.
From the plenum chamber, the air is fed into the various
training halls.
The warm air rises and is bled away through vents. During
hot weather, micronisers, located at the top of each tower
dispense an atomized spray of water, which mixes with
the incoming air, evaporates and produces cooling.
Incoming temperatures can be thus be lowered by 100c,
which is sufficient to bring indoor air temperature into the
comfort zone. More importantly, the air being fed into the
building is always new and not re circulated. Therefore it
is always fresh and oxygen rich. No one feels sleepy and
drowsy during sessions, even after a sumptuous lunch.
Day lighting
ANNUAL REPORT 2012
The entire building has been designed to use natural light.
There is no need to use power for lighting even on the
dullest day. On bright days, excess light is filtered through
specially designed blinds. Together with power saved
from air conditioning, this represents huge energy savings
during normal operation of the institute.

Water Management
Since water is not provided by the civic authorities, The
CII IQ accesses and treats ground water from bore wells to
meet its requirements. The waster used is of very good
quality and all of it is recycled through septic tanks and refed into the environment through soak pits.
Rainwater falling on the building and site is also
channeled into natural reservoirs and absorbed as ground
water.

unique design and beautiful landscaping provide a unique
experience for the participants who come to the institute
