INFORMATION GUIDE
The State Theatre in New Brunswick, New Jersey is managed by the New Brunswick Cultural Center, an umbrella
organization that also encompasses two adjacent theaters, the George Street Playhouse and the Crossroads Theatre.
In addition to the State Theatre, the Cultural Center is comprised of both resident and affiliate companies, each an
artistically and administratively independent organization: The American Repertory Ballet Company, Crossroads
Theatre Company, George Street Playhouse, and Mason Gross School of the Arts.
The State Theatre annually presents a season of international performances ranging from symphony orchestras,
classical ballets, Broadway shows to popular entertainers and children’s events. When the facility is not in use for
the State Theatre’s own programming, it is available to outside presenters on a rental basis.
This booklet contains detailed logistical and technical information about the State Theatre. If additional information
is required, please contact the theatre management.

MUSIC AND ORCHESTRA EQUIPMENT
Orchestra Shell:
The State Theatre is equipped with a movable orchestra shell consisting of four ceiling panels and eight rolling
towers. The acoustical surface is made of quarter-saw red oak. The shell has four configurations: the recital, or #1 setup for soloists and small chamber groups; the chamber, or #2 configuration is for larger chamber groups and choir;
the third configuration is for small orchestra; and the fourth is for full symphony orchestra.
In addition to providing an excellent acoustical environment, the shell is visually stunning and provides a comfortable
environment for musicians. The lighting in the shell ceiling provides an even 75 foot-candles throughout the shell.
The following pages show an overhead view for each of the configurations. On the right side of center the space is
defined by the towers, while on the left side of center a view of the ceiling panel is shown.
Risers:
The theatre has a full complement of orchestral risers, allowing three tiers of seating inside the shell at heights of 8”,
16” and 24”. Available are nineteen (19) 4’x 8’ platform risers; four (4) 4’x 6’ platform risers.
Choral Risers:
Five sections of three-tier Wenger aluminum standing risers for traditional choir arrangement.
Piano:
9’ Steinway Concert “D” Grand with artist’s bench.
