CREATIVITY TIME!
READ. JulY 05 - JulY 11, 2015

Kids are up for something fun and interactive as Dubai International Writers’ Centre
hosts a 4 day Children Creativity Camp this summer. The various writing exercises, theatre training and art programs that are in store for children ages 8 to 12 promises not only
to keep the camp participants entertained during their summer break, but also spark
and enhance their creativities. The different creative exercises planned for the camps
will give children the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the art of storytelling.
“We are really excited about hosting our first Creativity Camps here at the Dubai
International Writers’ Centre,” says Abdulla Al Shaer, Director of the Dubai International
Writers’ Centre, “We have had a number of successful children’s workshops over the past
several months, and these Camps promise to be extraordinary. The different creative
exercises planned for the camps will give children the opportunity to fully immerse
themselves in the art of storytelling. We have drama with mime Lara Matossian, writing
with bestselling children’s author Rachel Hamilton, art and a few things in between. The
four days are going to finish too quickly for the children, I think!”
Lara Matossian who runs drama, theatre, improv, mine – performing arts – workshops and activities for all ages and events will be bringing her popular physical theatre
workshops to the camps. She says, “They (the children) will learn how to use their
creativity, how to work both collaboratively and individually, and how to draw upon
their inner selves and their experiences to create settings, develop characters and build
stories through educational, entertaining, engaging, interactive - and fun - activities
and exercises.” The camp participants will most definitely be looking forward to a lot of
“Silliness, creativity, dramatic expression, funny stories and lots of fun and laughter!”, as
Lara puts it.
Also one of the highlights of the camps will be the creative writing class of bestselling
children’s book “The Case of the Exploding Loo” author, Rachel Hamilton. The camps
will be managed by a team of experienced instructors and teachers who will be conducting art workshops and hosting reading sessions. A qualified first-aider will also be
on site.
The Children’s Creativity Camps will be held from the 23rd of August until the 26th
from 10am to 3pm. It is exclusively for children between the ages of 8-12 and has a
limited number of slots.

CITY STORYTELLING
R
amadan is all about
giving compassion and
thanks, you can give your
part to the community
by attending the 16th edition
of PechaKucha Night Dubai. A
community event where everyone
and anyone can share their tales
of inspirations through words
and pictures, taking place on July
10th at The Third Line located
at Al Quoz 3, this year’s theme is
called City Storytelling, and it will
focus on creatives, artists, makers,
musicians,designers, organisers and
instigators who have contributed to
the experience of the city, and have
stories to tell. The list of presenters
will be shared on our social media
closer to the event dates. We got
the chance to talk to Saria Ansari,
PR and Media Manager of The
Third Line, who hosts PechaKucha
Nights, to share with us what this
community event is all about.
READ. JulY 05 - JulY 11, 2015
Where and how did PechaKucha
originate?
PechaKucha originally started in
Japan in 2003 by two architects –
Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham of
Klein Dytham architecture. They
came up with a quick and easy
format to give creative people an
opportunity to present exciting
ideas at an event where they could
meet, network and show their work
in public. Pechakucha is now held
in over 800 cities around the world,
following the famous 20x20 format –
which means that each speaker has
to present their story in 20 slides,
timed sharply at 20 seconds each.
Why did you choose the theme
City Storytelling?
The residents of Dubai belong
to an amazing mix of cultures,
nationalities and languages. Yet they
come together in this dynamic city
in a way that is a happy chaos. Of
those who end up staying for good,
carving a life for themselves and
starting their own businesses and
families here, many of them have
great stories to tell. From music,
publications, design, architecture,
fashion, food, graffiti and a lot more,
these people have in their own way
contributed in shaping the Dubai
experience.
This year, The Third Line will be
celebrating its 10th anniversary
and for us the year has been about
thanksgiving and reflection on how
far the city has come. The theme
City Storytelling pays homage to the
narratives that fuel the good and the
progressive in Dubai.
How can you share your story?
The beauty of PechaKucha is that
anyone can be a presenter. Any
person who has a story to tell, a
project to discuss, and a vision to
share can apply to be a presenter.
After the application deadline
period is crossed, a small number
of speakers will be chosen by the
selection committee to present at
the PKN, with this edition being
held on Friday, July 10 at 9PM at The
Third Line venue.
What are your expectations for
the upcoming event?
The fact that the PechaKucha events
are creative, fun, free to attend,
and open for all age-groups, have
always translated them into being
popular with the public. They have
been hosted in a number of places
over the years, but for this edition
we return back to The Third Line,
where the first PechaKucha in Dubai
was hosted in 2007. With it being
Ramadan, and the venue a nostalgia
trip for many who were present at
the first PKN, we expect it to be an
intimate event of old friends and
supporters of the programme.

For the past decade, Adam Baluch, a UAE singer/songwriter,
has always been leaving his
crowd wanting more and more
of his music. This month, the
remarkable musician releases
‘Answers To Questions’, to show
exactly what he’s about. The
four-track EP is Adam’s first
professionally recorded collection, and includes tracks that
have been part of his constantly
evolving performance repertoire
for both months, and several
years. The melodic keyboards,
guitars and trumpets heard on
the EP are played by Adam himself, as well as every note sung,
hummed or beat-boxed.
The instantly likeable star did
have something to say about his
music “People have been asking
me when I’m going to bring out
my music for a very long time.
I’ve always known I was going
to do that, but it was vital for
me that my first release showed
those people who I really am,
and what I could really do. I
needed to do this right, and I feel
like ‘Answers To Questions’ captures my music, and my soul.”
The funny thing is, music
never really flowed through his
childhood home, but it was apparent from his early years that
this was something Adam was
destined to do; and something
that most definitely came from
within. He started learning how
to play the trumpet when he was
eight, followed by the piano at
10. At 24, he followed his heart
and found a new home in Melbourne, Australia where he spent
the next five years, but Adam always knew that he would return
home to the UAE, with a whole
world of music literally bubbling
between his ears.
After releasing ‘Answers To
Questions’, Adam will spend
the summer hopping between
bookings in Europe – including appearances in Ibiza with
world-famous house music
DJ Nightmares On Wax – a
planned weekly gig in Beirut,
and of course plotting the next,
undoubtedly huge, chapter in
his career.

art and lead them in creative
activities across the GCC. I’m now
based between Qatar -where I am a
children’s television producer and
presenter- and Dubai. DUCTAC’s
summer camp is my first time
being involved in an educational
experience in the UAE. Dubai’s
very culturally diverse - so I think a
universal subject like imagination
has huge potential and importance.
The camp has been devised with
all of the many nationalities of
Dubai. We’re looking to develop
fundamental skills for all of the
creative thinking and activities; I
think it has much potential to bring
children together regardless of
linguistic or cultural differences.
10
EXPLORE YOUR
IMAGINATION
T
here is an indefinite opinion
about summer camps; some
parents think that summer
camps are the same concept
of school since it’s indoors and have
similar activities. But for others who
are working in this field, they have a
different point of view, and to them
it’s about new friends, different
communities, and a new experience.
Imagination is the golden gift
during childhood, so you have to
watch out for it, enhance it and
nurture it. This summer you can
do just that, as DUCTAC’s 2015
summer camp is inspired by the
imagination, fundamental to
children’s cognitive development,
for campers aged 5-11. All activities
are devised to further nourish and
fuel the imagination and have been
developed by, and will be taught by,
leading regional tutors including
children’s TV presenter Rania
Naccour, artists Ognjen Beadar
and Salama Nasib and long term
DUCTAC resident tutors Reema
Asnani and Irene Sutton.
You lived, taught and exhibited
in Japan, Africa and Dubai,
what is the different about the
experience in Dubai?
Rania Naccour: I’ve taught children
You will lead campers across
all camp activities, I was
wondering what inspired you to
title the camp (appreciate and
protect nature)?
Ognjen Beader: In my own work, I
have explored both nature and the
imagination extensively, whether
working with stone in my mosaic
work, or through physical exercises
in my drama and performance
art. I think what is so good about a
universal and broad theme like the
imagination is that we can show
the campers how one idea can have
many applications. We’re exploring
all facets through the weekly themes
and hope that - whether they are
attending for one week or all six campers of all ages will go away with
a better understanding of their own
imaginative potential and diversity!
SKATEBOARDING ON
THE RISE IN THE UAE
By Sarah Al Hoshi

kateboarding is witnessing a
rise in popularity within the
UAE, children and teenagers
can be seen practicing their
favourite hobby in indoor and
outdoor parks, where they showcase
their skills and talent in performing
the amazing moves that sometimes
reach stunt-like levels, or even use
them as means of transportation to
schools.
Historically, skateboarding is a
relatively recent sport, it emerged
during the 1940’s, and since then it
is getting more and more popular
with all action enthusiasts all
over the world. Rohan Thakuri, a
RAGE Skate Instructor is one man
who will be on hand to teach and
instruct skaters this summer and we
personally spoke to him to talk more
about this sport.
At what age can a child learn
skateboarding?
If kids want to learn skateboarding,
I would recommend they start at
the age of 4. Here in Dubai Mall we
start teaching kids at that age, which
gives them a good start.
Why do you think this sport is
becoming popular in Dubai?
Compared to Europe and the US,
where we know it really is popular
and well known, in Dubai I guess it’s
becoming popular because it’s a fun
way to enjoy with friends and family.
How serious do you have to be
in this sport, to be able to do the
stunts?
You don’t really need to be ‘serious’,
you just need a continuous workout
with the board. I would suggest a 2
hour practice for 1 to 2 months, and
you’ll be a good rider, after that you
can start to move on with the tricks.
It’s really fun to learn the basics.
What are the most basic tricks
you will teach the students?
In Dubai mall we have a RAGE bowl;
we teach kids basics things like the
‘Ollie’. We don’t have streets in the
bowl, so we’ll be teaching them
tricks like the ‘Rock to Fakie’.
Is this sport considered a
dangerous sport?
Yes it is, it has its hazards, but every
time you have to practice, you need
to follow the safety guidelines, like
wearing helmets and knee pads.
Here in Dubai Mall we provide all
the necessary safety needs.
It’s the end of June, and the start of July, it’s only fit to celebrate this by –what else of course- shopping! We’ve got the latest
must have items this week, from skin care, make-up, accessories, bags and shoes, this is your one stop shop for window
shopping. So what are you waiting for? Create your shopping checklist and make sure that all these are included.

Shopping for the Summer wardrobe? Statement stripes

tall and lanky, horizontal stripes
probably wouldn’t do as much harm
to you as they would to me at 5’9.
Anyone who’s a little more on the

vertical stripes. If you’re planning on

Whenever I hear “stripes”, the

I’m not a huge fan of horizontal

Also consider pieces that feature

For those who are a little more

HOW TO AVOID
THIRST
SKINNY JEANS: IS IT DURING
A HEALTH HAZARD? RAMADAN
F
ashion can be fun, but it
also has its hazards, take
for example high-heels,
scientifically it’s not
healthy for anyone to be wearing
them regularly but that doesn’t
stop women wearing them. In
most recent news, a new fashion
health hazard has arisen: skinny
jeans. This is in accordance to
news about a 35-year-old woman
in Australia who collapsed and
was hospitalised for four days
after damaging her nerves and
muscles by squatting while
wearing tight jeans. The case,
as described in the Journal of
Neurology, Neurosurgery and
Psychiatry, goes as follows,
“She had been helping a family
member move house. This
involved many hours of squatting
while emptying cupboards,
she had been wearing ‘skinny
jeans’ and recalled that her jeans
had felt increasingly tight and
uncomfortable during the day.
Later that evening, while walking
home, she noticed bilateral
foot drop and foot numbness,
which caused her to trip and
fall. She spent several hours
lying on the ground before she
was found. On examination,
her lower legs were markedly
oedematous bilaterally, worse
on the right side, and her jeans
could only be removed by
cutting them off.” The question
on everyone’s mind now is: Do
I need to get rid of my skinny
jeans? To further get a better
understanding of the situation,
we reached out to Dr. Heike
Jacobs, a Senior Consultant
Neurologist at the German
Neuroscience Center, to give
us his insight on this incident.
When asked if they skinny
jeans are indeed dangerous,
Dr. Jacob’s answer was this:
“Potentially dangerous if you
wear them the wrong way.” He
explained further that, “They
can cause compression of the
peroneal nerves which run
exposed and vulnerable at
the outside area of the knees
close to the head of the lower
leg bone (called fibula). This
can lead to paralysis of the foot
with a weakness to move the
foot upwards. In addition the
tight trousers can compress the
calves muscles, in particular with
prolonged squatting, which leads
to swelling (fluid accumulation)
and reduced blood flow depriving
the muscles of oxygen and
energy causing muscle death. In
extreme cases the toxins of this
muscle death could injure you
kidneys to such an extent, leading
to kidney failure and death. So
yes wearing skinny jeans when
you work physically and have
to bend your legs in certain
positions can cause paralysis of
your legs and could potentially
be lethal.” Another personal
opinion from Dr. Andreas Appelt,
Specialist Orthopedic Surgeon
at the Mediclinic, states that,
“Tight pants can create trouble
for persons with limited blood
circulation of the legs, such as
diabetic persons or long term
smokers. Other problems can be
in the groins and genital area, if
the fitting is too tight.”

NEXtCARE CAPABILITIES POWER DHA’S ‘SAADA’
INSURANCE PROGRAM FOR DUBAI NATIONALS
NEXtCARE, the leading Third
Party Administrator (TPA),
operating in Qatar since 2012,
and working across the GCC and
Mena region as a provider of
health insurance management
services, has delivered cost
optimised innovations to the
Dubai Health Authority to power
the government body’s ‘Saada’
insurance program. Through
the technology implemented
by NEXtCARE, more than
3,500 Saada enrolments are
facilitated every day. ‘Saada’
targets approximately 130,000
UAE nationals living in Dubai
and are not currently benefiting
from any type of insurance
plans. The recently launched
program grants them access
to a wide range of private
medical providers through a
government funded health
insurance program.
NEXtCARE technology
creates a seamless registration
process that does away with
insurance cards by utilising
applicants’ Emirates IDs.
Dubai Nationals with a valid
Emirates ID can download
a mobile app or go through
the ‘Saada’ website to book
a registration appointment.
NEXtCARE -member of Allianz
Worldwide Partners- offers
‘Saada’ beneficiaries access to
a large network of healthcare
providers now part of the Saada
network. Beneficiaries only
need their Emirates ID, to avail
services, when they walk into a
healthcare provider.
At the heart of the system
is NEXtCARE’s provider
portal “PULSE” that allows
providers to instantly check
beneficiaries’ eligibility, obtain
e-authorizations, submit
claims electronically and
access claims history. Providers
can also tailor their proprietary
systems to connect to PULSE.
“We have ensured capabilities
for uninterrupted registration
and processing. Part of our remit
is to create a smart system that
tracks and monitors claims.
DHA has mandated smart
preventative care to be part of
the system – where we offer
functionality such as tracking
whether beneficiaries are
responsibly handing chronic
illnesses,” said NEXtCARE’s
Chief Business Officer, Mr. André
Daoud.
NEXtCARE’s competitive
advantage stems from its
proprietary web enabled
‘TATSH SYSTEM’ that caters
to the need of more than 90
insurance companies across
the region. The company has
more than USD 1 billion in
premiums under management
and processes USD 750 million
worth of claims via its complex
rule edit engine.

It is important to store plenty of water
in our bodies before starting a new day’s
fast. Don’t over drink as this will cause
stomach discomfort, consume a cup
of water every hour or so until Suhoor.
Break your fast with 2 pieces of dried
fruits and a cup of warm water.
Avoid fish at Suhoor time as this will
cause extreme thirst for the next day, especially tuna and sardines since they are
packed with sodium (salt). Avoid as well
all canned items, packaged stocks and
tomato paste as these are very high in salt
content, and salt causes us to dehydrate
even further, so it is better to avoid them
completely during Ramadan.
Use herbs and spices to season your
dishes and plates, and remove the salt
shaker completely from your dining
table. It will be difficult for few days to
get used to the taste with little salt, but
eventually you will get used to it, and it
will bring your great relief to your thirst
cues the next day.
It is very common in Ramadan to drink
lots of juices and syrups and this can be
very calorific. Avoid sugary drinks as they
are empty calories and they will make
you to get thirsty the next day and most
importantly might be the cause of the
“unknown” weight gain during Ramadan.
Ramadan sweets are a tradition after
Iftar, but these should be avoided as well,
because of their high sugary content,
which are very unhealthy in these incredible amounts. Try to have an occasional
small treat once a week, and the rest of
the days try having fruits as your snacks
between Iftar and Suhoor.
Have healthy meals during Iftar to
avoid indigestion and weight gain. Start
with a healthy bowl of salad, followed by
a home-cooked meal cooked in a healthy
way, with very little oil; without lard or
butter.
Keep snacking on healthy snacks
until Suhoor, such as dried fruits, fresh
fruits, low fat yogurt, handful of raw nuts
etc. Do not avoid Suhoor as this is the
number one cause of weight gain and will
keep you feeling lethargic and weak the
day after.

the Angkor Archaeological Park. It
is home to the intricately designed
ancient shrines that withstood
the test of time, war, colonization
and different regimes. Its natural
coexistence with nature has further
enhanced its beauty.
With the temples far apart from
each other, the Temple Run under
the scorching heat of the sun-- from
Angkor Thom, Elephant Terrace,
Bayon to Banteay Srei and even
more if you can-- may drain you
out; but come sunset, the postcardready golden view of Angkor Wat is
sure to make every drop of sweat
well worth it!
The temple run can easily take
up a day, even up to three if you
decide to go visit all the temples.
But if you’re lucky to have enough
time, the Landmine Museum,
Apsara dance performance and
night markets are some of the other
noteworthy things to check out in
Siem Reap.
Cambodia is an adventure and
culture-filled destination, not
to mention one of the cheapest
countries even in South East Asia
standards. If you’re looking for
your next destination or even just
a quick getaway this coming Eid
Holiday, Siem Reap is definitely
worth considering!

eading a book is a privilege
that anyone can afford.
The joy of being able to put
oneself into a world that a
writer has created for us is always
a unique experience. There are so
many benefits in reading a book;
not only does it provide knowledge,
it also instils peace in us. Although
there are a lot of ways to access
books nowadays, the 2012 Arab
Thought Foundation’s fourth annual
cultural development report states
that an average Arab Child reads for
just 6 minutes in a year. This is why
during this Holy Month of Ramadan,
City Walk, The Beach and Boxpark
in collaboration with the UAE
Board on Books for Young People
or UAEBBY have initiated a unique
‘Book Donation’ drive to mark the
spirit of giving.
Read reached out to the President
of UAEBBY Marwa Al Aqroubi to
give us more insight about the book
initiative, its goals and how all of us
can take part in this.
book donation initiative is a great
way for celebrities, key influencers
and just about anybody in the UAE
to give back to the community and
help inspire a love of reading among
children. Given the concern that an
average Arab Child reads for just 6
minutes in a year, we hope that our
collective efforts instil a greater love
for reading among the young in the
UAE.

WHERE WILL THE DONATED
BOOKS GO?
There are plans to donate the books
to schools in addition to public
libraries. Public libraries are an ideal
location for young people to find
all the donated books under one
roof, as well as be able to spend as
much time reading them alone or
with their families. UAEBBY holds
book reading sessions throughout
the year to inspire a love of reading
in children, keep them up to date
with the newest and most culturally
relevant Arabic literature, and
to help create opportunities for
families to bond with one another
through reading aloud at home.

WHAT ARE YOU HOPING TO
ACHIEVE BY DOING THIS DRIVE?
Through this campaign, we are able
to shine a light on the importance
of giving as well as the importance
of reading among children. By
receiving donated books from
celebrities and influencers in the
UAE, young people will have a
chance to read their role models’
favourite literature, understand
what inspired them during their
childhoods, and develop an
appreciation of classic tales and
timeless stories. Furthermore,
Ramadan grants people the
opportunity to share with those
less fortunate and with the
community as a whole, making the
book donation initiative a perfect
occasion to encourage literacy and
education, and make a positive,
lasting impact on young people’s
lives.
Saleh Al Geziry, Senior DirectorRetail Management, Meraas
also shares his thought on their
embarkment. “The Holy Month of
Ramadan brings with it thoughtful
opportunities for giving and sharing.
We would like to dedicate the holy
month to promote the culture of
reading levels in the community.”
Imagination, knowledge, sagacity
and tranquillity, these are just some
of what books can bestow upon
us. This Holy Month of Ramadan
let us support this endeavour by
heading on to The Beach, City Walk
or Boxpark to donate books. Let us
share the joy we experience when
we immerse into manuscripts
written by great authors; let us give
them their own adventures.

A certified chef and TV presenter, who has gathering
thousands of followers on Instagram, where she shares her
latest recipes and cooking tips,
Chef Lamees Attar-Bashi shares
with us how she came to love
cooking and her recommended
dish for Ramadan.
HOW DID YOU COME TO
LOVE COOKING?
It started when I was only 11
years old, and I had discovered
a recipe in one of my books (a
childrens book). This was my
first time seeing a recipe and I
took it to my mom, so she explained to me what it was, and
she asked me, ‘Do you want to
bake it?’ (It was a lemon cake
recipe) I was so excited that
I said yes instantly and from
there everything kicked off.
WHAT CUISINES DO YOU
SPECIALIZE IN?
I do specialize in Iraqi cuisine
but in a modern way, however
I try to feature a lot of dishes
from around the world in my
cooking program.
WHAT DISH WOULD YOU
RECOMMEND EVERYONE TO
TRY DURING RAMADAN?
Since not a lot of people
are aware of Iraqi cuisine, I
would like to recommend a
very traditional one which is
a pastry dish by the name of
‘kleicha’. It is a pastry filled with
date paste, crushed walnuts &
grated coconut.

SMARTBANDS FOR A BETTER CAUSE
Google is working on a smartband much more concerned with monitoring your health which is not content with Android Wear. But to be fair,
it’s not really something you’ll just be able to buy so easily. the Google
smartband is being worked on by the company’s life sciences group. It’s
not really a consumer device. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t get
your hands on one. this band could be used to track biometric data for
drug and clinical trials, a way to collect data more-or-less 24/7. Head of
the division working on the project Andy Conrad says, “I envision a day,
in 20 or 30 years, where physicians give it to all patients.”

HOW TO SURVIVE
Featuring a robust crafting
system, unique survival guide
and a host of playable characters, How to Survive strands
players on a remote archipelago
off the coast of Colombia in the
aftermath of an unexplained accident...but you’re not alone. In
order to survive, you must fulfill
the most basic of needs - seeking out food, water and shelter,
as well as crafting dozens of
tools and weapons from fishing
rods to Molotov cocktails. Players can also team up with other
survivors in local and online
multiplayer story and challenge
modes to take on a growing array of the infected.
Logitech has once again amused its customers with the great UE Roll, the
latest Bluetooth wireless speaker from the Logitech-owned Ultimate Ears.
There was the Boom and the Megaboom, so will this one be any better? Well
for starters, it seems like Ultimate Ears got bored of the can shape, which is
why the UE Roll looks more like a frisbee. But it’s certainly eye catching and
makes for a conversation starter. And despite its shape, the UE Roll manages
to belt out some impressive sound. It doesn’t get as loud or as bassy as its
older siblings, but it still packs a punch with clear, crisp sound that doesn’t
dip too far into the realms of bass, while the mids and highs sound just right.
You can easily pair it up with your phone via its Bluetooth 4.0.

SAMSUNG REVEALS MIRROR AND TRANSPARENT OLED DISPLAY
Samsung has always been one of the first companies you turn to
when it comes to technology, but it’s not only mobile phones and
desktops. In fact, Samsung has recently unveiled their maiden
attempt at Mirror and Transparent OLED display panels that are
bound to wow – making these a very welcome departure from the
standard issue monitors that they have rolled out in the past. This
new Samsung OLED will offer a digital viewing platform that is
guaranteed to make the consumer purchasing experience a whole
lot more visually engaging. When Samsung’s OLED display technology comes together with Intel Real Sense technology, there’s no
doubt that the end result is something big. As for Samsung’s Mirror
Display, it’ll probably be preferable over home mirrors, as it delivers digital information services to sophisticated consumers in the
same space where the traditional mirror now stands.

Even Terminator Genysis director
Alan Taylor thinks the marketing for
his film crossed a line. Mild spoilers
for Terminator Genysis ahead.
Speaking to Uproxx, Taylor said he
was as surprised as we were when the
latest trailer for Terminator Genisys
revealed an important plot twist
regarding Jason Clarke’s John Connor.
“Yeah, it’s funny; I certainly directed
those scenes with the intention that
no one would know”, the director
said. Taylor places the blame on the
pressure to reinvigorate the franchise
and draw in new audiences. “I
think they felt like they had to send
a strong message to a very wary
audience that there was something
new. They were concerned that
people were misperceiving this as
kind of a reboot, and none of us
wanted to reboot two perfect movies
by James Cameron.”
CARA DELEVINGNE
ON SUICIDE SQUAD
According to English fashion
model, actress and singer Cara
Delevingne, the superhero movies of today are ‘totally sexist’
in the way they portray female
heroes. Delevingne who plays
Enchantress in Suicide Squad
told Empire (via TheWrap) that,
“Generally though, superhero
movies are totally sexist. Female
superheroes are normally
exposed or in bikinis. No one
would be able to fight like that.
Wonder Woman, how the hell
does she fight? She would be
dead in a minute.” Why then
has she signed on for the role
of Enchantress? When asked
about her decision to portray
this character in the upcoming
superhero film, her reply was,
“There are only three girls in [Suicide Squad] but in my opinion
they have the best roles.” Suicide
Squad is set to hit theaters
sometime in 2016.

IS PRACTICING
CARD TRICKS
FOR GAMBIT
Classic Gambit fans will be thrilled
to learn that Channing Tatum has
reportedly been practicing card
tricks for the role of Remy Lebeau in
his upcoming X-Men spin-off film.
In an interview with Screen Rant,
Tatum’s writing-producing partner, Reid Carolin, revealed the 21 Jump
Street star’s very practical preparation for Gambit: “Last night, we were
with my friend who I went to college with - this guy David Kwong, who is
an incredible magician - and he was teaching Chan how to throw cards and
do sleight of hand.” Carolin went on to praise Joshua Zetumer’s script for
Gambit (which is based on a treatment by co-creator and X-Men comics
legend Chris Claremont), saying, “The script is really good...To be honest, I
don’t watch big movies for pleasure a lot, but this script convinced me that
we should be making this movie.” Gambit -- directed by Rise of the Planet of
the Apes’ Rupert Wyatt -- hits theatres on October 7, 2016.
GUARDIANS 2 PROMISES

Director James Gunn has confirmed that the Guardians sequel is called
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. On Twitter, Gunn unveiled the superhero
sequel’s official title after Collider reported that Marvel Studios president
Kevin Feige may have accidentally let the cat out of the bag. Previously
rumored to be codenamed Guardians 3000, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is
set to start shooting in February in Atlanta. Gunn has already finished the first
draft for the Marvel movie, claiming the sequel will be a more “emotional”
film. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will hit the silver screen May 5, 2017.

AUDI A7: A
STYLISH,
PRACTICAL
DRIVE
A
udi has always had
a sweet spot for car
enthusiasts; whether
the driver likes luxury
or sport. If you’re looking for a
handsome and powerful car that
won’t disappoint, check out the
Audi A7. There’s almost nothing
the A7 doesn’t offer, it’s got sleek
styling, lots of tech, and plenty
of performance. The car feels
beautifully built and is pretty
practical for an executive car,
making it one of the most enjoyable
drives Audi can offer. It’s no doubt
a highly desirable luxury car, it’s
comfortable to sit in and provides
a surprising amount of practicality.
Obviously, it’s got its competitors
such as BMW and Mercedes, but the
new Audi A7 stands out in its class.
Let’s start with its marvelous
exterior; the way it’s designed just
screams luxury and sport altogether.
It has large dimensions and a
low-slung body combined with a
muscular front
end. The bonnet
is defined by
V-shaped lines,
which eventually
lead to Audi’s
trademark
single-frame
grille and LED
headlights. This style goes all the
way to the back of the car which
looks very sporty. There have been
slight changes to the grille, and
the bumpers have also been resculpted to give the vehicle a more
aggressive look. Doors are frameless,
emphasising the A7’s coupé
character, although the rear panes
don’t fully disappear.
The interior is just as impressive
as the exterior, the A7 feels just
as comfortable and luxurious as
any of its rivals. The layout didn’t
really change but still has the feel of
wraparound luxury. The gorgeous
dashboard design is one of the
best out there, which just makes
you feel that Audi is providing you
with the highest quality materials.
Some people there’s might be
disappointed by its cabin space but
that mainly goes for the rear seats.
This is a long, low car, and it feels
that way when you get in. Up front
it’s actually more spacious and
quite comfortable. the precision
machining of the aluminium centre
console controls and the showy
arrival of the sat-nav screen from a
slot in the dash all create an alluring
first impression.
Let’s get to the fun part, because
as stated, the Audi A7 doesn’t only
boast a beautiful design, but also
great power. That’s thanks to its
3.0-litre V6 engine equipped with
seven-speed S tronic gearbox. It’s
capable of launching from a dead
stop to 100km/h in 5.3 seconds
before reaching a top speed of
250km/h, as it is powered by
333 horsepower and 440 Nm of
torque. All this offers a genuinely
comfortable, pliant ride. The Audi
A7 has strong acceleration and can
pass slow-moving traffic in what
seems like a blink of an eye. It might
be quite bulky, but despite that, it
corners very well. If you can’t see
yourself behind the wheel of a BMW
5-Series or a Mercedes CLS, then the
Audi A7 is could be the one for you.
MUSCLING UP THE A45
READ. JulY 05 - JulY 11, 2015
Mercedes has announced that it will give its A45 AMG a boost from 355bhp up to 381bhp, as part of a wider
facelift for the A-class family. The car still uses the same 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, but the A45’s power
increase is a result of a newly configured valve assembly, adjustments to timing and turbocharging. In case you’re
still wondering, yes it’s definitely going to be faster than its previous model, capable of sprinting from 0-100km/h
in 4.2 seconds, 0.4 seconds quicker than the previous model. The 2016 model year changes are extended to all
models in the A-class family. The looks are barely touched, but there are tech and spec changes across the range.

MEET THE NEW
ITALIAN POWER
Alfa Romeo has revealed a
highly powered vehicle and
added it to its lineup to beat the
Mercedes-AMG C63 and BMW
M3. The iconic Italian car maker
revealed its new Giulia sedan as
part of a lavish 105th birthday
celebration in Milan overnight,
promising the four-door will reignite passion for the brand and reposition it as a genuine luxury and
performance rival to the German
triumvirate of Mercedes-Benz, BMW
and Audi. Powering this vehicle
is a 380kW version of the Ferrarideveloped twin-turbo V6 featured
in the Maserati Ghibli which Alfa
claims can propel it from 0-100kmh
in just 3.9 seconds. It is expected
that the Giulia will hit the markets
starting from early next year.

THEY ARE AUTHENTIC
LIKABLE EMPLOYEES
I
nterviewing candidates can
be an eye-opening process.
You might meet candidates
who don’t exactly fit into the
definition of what you think a job
is, but that person might open
your eyes to what that job should
be. While skills are important to
perform any job, personal traits are
also as important as competence.
We all know through experience that
attitude is contagious; it actually
spreads like wild fire. That’s why you
need to take a very deep look into
the candidates’ personality because
most of the time, the deciding factor
is actually likability and cultural fit.
Akhtaboot is here to help you hire
better by highlighting the top habits
of likable employees.
THEY SHOW INTEREST
IN OTHERS
In a world where many employees
are obsessed with what’s in it for
them, having empathy towards
others is often a forgotten personal
trait at work. Likable employees
tend to show interest in the wellbeing of those who surround them.
They always try to understand
the needs and feelings of others,
and act in sensitive ways to those
needs. Always remember that each
interaction that you have with
others creates a memory; people
may forget your name, but they will
never forget how you made them
feel.
THEY DON’T ENGAGE
IN POWER GAMES
While displaying self-confidence
is a good trait to have at work,
going overboard with political and
power games can take a toll on
your likability. Likable employees
recognize their imperfections
and they don’t try to mask it
with a fake sense of confidence.
They understand that having
weaknesses is only human.
This kind of knowledge breeds
self-awareness, a main factor of
emotional intelligence and an
important element in achieving
work success.
THEY DON’T TAKE
THEMSELVES TOO
SERIOUSLY
Many employees tend to take
themselves too seriously at work.
But adding some well-placed,
light humor in any workplace can
enhance the productivity and moral
of the team. Likable employees are
cheerful by nature, which makes it
easier to approach them. The more
approachable they are, the more
authentic and genuine people will
be around them.
THEY ARE NOT OVERLY
MODEST
In a world where we want what we
don’t have, and nobody’s completely
satisfied with who they are, being
genuine is a rare quality to find in
a person. Likable employees are
confident of their strengths, but
they don’t need to brag about their
achievements nor do they exhibit
a fake sense of modesty. They don’t
need constant admiration, praise
and approval to validate their
existence.
THEY ARE CONSISTENT
Likable employees are predictable
in a good way. They explain what
they are going to do clearly and
follow through with reasonable and
consistent results. Being consistent
is important for making progress. It
also enables you to get through the
situation. It’s all about doing what
you say you’ll do. It’s the best way
to gain the respect and trust of your
colleagues.

5 HABITS OF
Being genuine is a rare quality. It’s
not very often that we come across
someone who we can instantly
connect with. Likable people
possess this gift. Their greetings
stand out, they try to remember
people’s names and they listen with
interest. They’re not obsessed with
being liked nor are they insecure
and narcissistic. They are simply
true to themselves; if you like them,
that’s great. If not, that’s alright too.

FARAH SEEKS
NAME CLEAR
READ. JulY 05 - JulY 11, 2015
o Farah claims
that he wants his
named cleared
from any drug
allegations which seem to be
“killing him”, and has urged
his coach Alberto Salazar
to disprove any allegations.
However, allegations were
made against Salazar during
an interview, stating that he
was involved in doping US
runner Galen Rupp, training
partner of Farah’s, back in
2002. There isn’t really any
suggestion Farah has broken
any rules, but the double
Olympic champion was still
being plagued, which forced
him to withdraw from the
Diamond League in Birmingham three weeks ago. “To
be labelled a cheat – it’s not
fair. If I’m a cheat then prove
I’m a cheat or just leave me
alone and let me do what
I do best,” said Farah. “I
love what I do and I want to
continue to win medals and I
want people to know I’m 100
per cent clean.”
remier League chief executive
Richard Scudamore says that Fifa’s
next leader should be someone
with a corporate background who
can transcend the past. A meeting of Fifa
Congress will be held in December in order
to select a new president after incumbent
Sepp Blatter called for “profound restructuring”. “Quite frankly we need some new
names and new thinking. The thing has
to change. Everybody’s been saying it for
some time. Clearly this a seismic shift in the
dynamic.” said Scudamore. Scudamore says
he has no plans to run himself to succeed
Blatter - and does not believe any English
candidate would be right for the role.
RICCIARDO
HOPEFUL
FOR 2016
Daniel Ricciardo has written off 2015 for Red Bull and Renault
to focus their attention on making a front-running car next
year instead. The 24-year-old was the only non-Mercedes
driver to make the podium last year, winning three times
in his first year with the senior squad after stepping up
from Toro Rosso. But things seem a bit different this
season, with Red Bull’s pace limited by the
much-documented horsepower deficit
from their Renault power unit. “The
fight for the title is already
out of reach so I think
it is important that
the team set up a
championship
target for
next year.”
mir Khan says that Floyd
Mayweather Jr could ruin
his own legacy if he continues to refuse to fight him.
The undefeated, who holds a record of
(48-0-0) beat Manny Pacquiao in May
and says he will have his final fight on
September 12, naming Andre Berto
and Karim Mayfield as his possible
candidates. Khan (31-3-0) has made
it clear that he wants to secure a bigmoney clash with Mayweather, which
so far has been rejected. “We’ve been
talking to Al Haymon and hopefully
we’ll find out in a week what’s going to
happen. Mayweather wants to fight on
September 12 and I’ll be ready for that
date,” said Amir. “He needs to finish
on a high. What he’s probably going
to do is leave the game on a low and I
think that’s the worst thing to do.”
ENGLAND ON THE GO
J
ames Anderson says that England
is on the up ahead of their game
against Australia. It is clear that the
team has been showing signs of
moving on from the 5-0 defeat to Aus-
tralia in 2013/14, winning five of their
last eight Tests. Anderson is confident
that England are ready to improve their
record of victories after having new
coach Trevor Bayliss. “So we’ve shown
signs of turning the corner as a Test
team and going back on that upward
movement, but we’re still a little way
off and hopefully we can continue to
improve throughout this Ashes series.”
MISSING OUT
HAPPY
MURRAY
A
A
CT Brumbies winger Henry Speight will not take part in Australia’s first two games of the Rugby Championship
after his appeal against a five-week ban was dismissed. Speight was banned last week until the 25th of July after
resulting in a dangerous lifting tackle in the Super 15 on Western Stormers captain Juan de Jongh. Speight will
miss Australia’s Tests against South Africa and Argentina, but will have three Tests to force his way back into the
Wallabies side in the lead-up to the World Cup.
ndy Murray is happy to see
the strength British men’s
tennis is offering nowadays, especially in Wimbledon. Murray started his tournament
with a straight sets win over Mikhail
Kukushkin, while new British No 2 Aljaz Bedene and Davis Cup star James
Ward later secured first-round victories. The Scot admitted that he has
a strong interest in his compatriot’s
results and that their success helps his
own performance. It’s good for British tennis. The more wins and more
players we can have in these events, it
makes a difference.” said Murray.

You are the kind of
person who knows
what they want. You
also know how to get things. You’re
going to grab for something in a
daring way.Make sure you retain
your modesty and grounded-ness
when you get what you want.
You are a grounded person. You know where
you are going, more or less, and
whether or not you realize it, you are
the centre of a lot of people’s orbit.
It’s fun to be in the spotlight, but
try not to get a big head about your
social status.
Why are things kind of
tough right now? Why do
you feel held back from doing your
best? You’re going to have a lot of
questions in your mind and everyone
else is going to be acting a touch crazier than usual. Who do you turn to?
Someone you don’t know very well.

You don’t have to be
the life of the party all
the time. That’s not your job in this
world. If you don’t feel like leaving
the house - if the allure of the comfortable bed and a day to yourself is
too strong - consider taking a personal day and doing your own thing.
Just because you have
a strong sense of what
you want doesn’t mean that you are,
arrogant. In fact, you are an excellent listener and you are constantly
surprised by the things you learn
from the most unlikely people, especially by this week.
There’s romance in the
air. You’re going to have
a terrific time. Your general good
mood is likely to put you in the
mood to rethink and reorganize aspects of your life -- maybe you’ll buy
a filing cabinet at a used furniture
store, or a new bookshelf.

possibly while in the middle of a financial transaction. The thing is, you are
perceptive and charming. You could
charm the wings off a bee. Unfortunately, you can’t charm your finances
or your family in the same way.
You are direct and you
know a lot about music
and art. You’re exactly the kind of
person that people love to have as
a best friend. Don’t be shy about
talking to strangers. You could use a
couple of friends outside your immediate social circles.

Finally, you’ve been
waiting for some welldeserved recognition for some time
now, and you’re finally going to get
it. How to behave when the honour
is bestowed upon you? Be modest.
Be honest. The question on everyone’s mind, of course, is: What next?
People’s motivations
are not always apparent. The world hurls forward in mysterious ways. You’re not sure why
things are happening in a certain
way, but the mere fact that you’re
thinking about such questions
places you ahead of the pack.
The group needs a
leader and all eyes
are on you. The group needs a lot
of things, you realize, which is what
any true leader would recognize.
There are also other reasons why
you might be the right person for
the job. Reluctantly, you agree.
