This month we will be celebrating Christmas in July with both residents and
visitors. There are lunches and dinners planned with this Christmas theme.
These functions have always been a great success in past years and will no
doubt continue to be fabulous fun this year!
The sales office will be celebrating this event by offering some limited specials
on new homes in the month of July. If you have any friends or family looking at
the resort for future purchases, now is the time for them to have a look at the
specials board, they may be pleasantly surprise. See page 5 for the Orchid
special.
It is said that people live longer and healthier lives when they are happier, have
friends and keep active. Palm Lake Resort Eagleby Heights ticks all those boxes.
Warmest regards

Well hello everyone again
I am sure you can see we have well and truly settled back in again after our short
holiday and I certainly ‘chilled out’ (in the snow in NZ), but I must say it was really
beautiful and we both enjoyed having a break.
It was another very busy month here at the Resort last month,
with a lot of additional functions happening. The main one being a very successful James Blundell concert which saw a huge
crowd attend.
Our new caravan storage area is now operational, the
Karaoke night was a great hit and some excellent movies in the
cinema are being shown this month with full houses.
We are now gearing up for our XMAS IN JULY dinners. I might drop ‘ Santa “ a
line and see if he will pop in as he did last year. It is a great opportunity to make that
dinner night a little more special than normal and decorate your tables and pop your
bubbly!
We have been so blessed with such fantastic weather lately, but now the weather is
starting to have a crisp bite early mornings and evenings. We really do live in the
best climate and of course the best resort here at Palm Lakes Eagleby Heights.
A very warm welcome to our new Residents over the recent few months and we
know you will enjoy all the amenities and activities available here, and our existing
Residents will always take the time to ‘show you the ropes’.
QUOTE OF THE MONTH
A cup of coffee shared with a friend is happiness
tasted and time well spent
Enjoy

Bowls Report
Page 10
As predicted in last months report, the Palm Lake Resort Social Bowls Club triples
championship has been decided. Those who attended witnessed a tense match and the
Team of Janet Monkhouse, Ian Marshall and Garry Kingston proved too strong and is
our inaugural triples champions.
Congratulation to all who played in the
championships.
The four singles
championships have reached the finals stage
and we will be able to announce the winners
next month. The four divisions are :
-Ladies Novice (Less than 2 years experience)
-Men’s Novice
-Ladies Open &
-Men’s Open
Again close matches played in wonderful spirit L – R Janet Monkhouse (Lead), Garry Kinghave been a feature of these championships. A ston (Skip) & Ian Marshall (Second)
list is on the notice board for the pair's championship. Partners will be selected randomly and
matches played on Tuesday mornings and
Wednesdays.
Arrangements are almost finalised for our annual Gala Dinner Dance and I am sure you
have seen the posters around the resort. Come along as your favourite celebrity – film
star, public figure, etc – or dress in red and or black. A three course meal will be served
to your table and there will be great music to get those feet moving. There are still a
few tickets remaining so see Pat Smith as soon as possible or you may be disappointed.
This is the bowls club’s one major social event for the year and is subsidised by the
club. This is one way we can give the members something back for all the dinners they
have attended and the raffle tickets they have bought. Because of this major event there
will not be a monthly dinner in July.
We had a bumper crowd attend the Bowls Club House on Thursday 14th June for the
lucky members draw. It took us 3 draws to find a winner and John Baker was the lucky
member who collected $100. Congratulations John. To celebrate his win John shouted
us all a drink. Thanks John! Remember you must be present to claim your prize. The
Palm Lake Shield matches are just around the corner and expressions of interest to participate are being sought. There is a list on the notice board in the club house so add
your name!
Until next month – see you on the green!

“THE LAKE”
The rough drive down to my cottage is kept that way to discourage unwelcome visitors.
At the bottom, a sharp right turn leads to my seawater lake, an acre of blissful, clear water.
A narrow cleft between two vertical rock walls leads out to the sea.
My cottage, snuggled amongst some trees, faces the lake.
Last evening, when walking along the shore in my sarong, a strange thing happened.
The lake was a hive of activity and I wondered why. Then, to my surprise, I saw a naked
young woman, standing waist high in the deep water and called out, “this is private
property. You’ve no right to be here.”
Modestly covering her breasts with her long golden hair she called back in a clear
voice,” I’m a Mermaid. Do the fish also require your permission to be here?”
“You, a Mermaid? Pull the other one , ” I said in anger, “and push off”.
“No. You come here and I’ll prove it”.
Intrigued and ready to call her bluff I waded towards her.
“Now, give me your hands,” she said when I reached her.
I did, and to my surprise she ran them down her sides below the water. Astounded I felt
what seemed to be large fish-like scales.
“My god, you must be one!“ I spluttered, quickly withdrawing my hands, utterly
confused.
With sigh she said, “Yes, I am, but I wish I was a human”.
“Not much hope of that,” I retorted, aware of her yearning.
“Ah! But there is a way. According to the lore of the sea should a man make love to a
mermaid she will become a human being.”
“A pious hope, “ I scoffed, conscious now of how beautiful she was.
“But how does a man to make love to a fish?”
She laughed and repeated, “Yes, there is a way,” and as she took me by the hand I meekly
let her lead me into deep water until we both went under…
Later, when wandering around inside my cottage, each wearing a sarong, I remarked on
the ease of her transformation from a piscatorial being to a human and to her ready acceptance of everything around her, formerly alien. She shrugged off the transformation and
explained that there was much to be learned from exploring wrecked ships,“the Titanic for
example” Then, seeing my bed she smiled, laid down on it and said, “Might I suggest we
a rest awhile together?” How could I refuse?
Just before dawn I awoke with a start. Her side of the bed was cold and empty and I noticed
several large fish scales lying there. In a panic I rushed down to the lake and found more
scales on the shore. An early morning ray of sunlight, stabbing through the cleft in the
rocks glistened momentarily off something golden on the water, which caught my eye.
I dropped to my knees, grasped the scales and sobbed, knowing she was gone.
Or had it all been just a beautiful dream?

Firstly, good news that a quote for the third table is now
being requested and hopefully within the next month we
should have an answer on a delivery date. We have seen our

proved to be a skilled player. Hopefully, this will encourage
more ladies to participate on a regular basis.
The Pool Club has seen some great action over the last month with numerous
players in the running to be in the top four players over the season. Between
18 - 25 players participate each week and it has seen some very competitive
pool. The end of season presentation will be held on completion of normal
fixtures Saturday 30th June.
The new season will commence Saturday 7th July
from 1pm until 4pm at Lakeview Clubhouse and any
new players are welcome to come along and join in
the enjoyable, friendly atmosphere whether you are a
current member or a beginner –“all welcome”.

The highlight of our June activities was the day trip to Redcliffe. On arrival our tour guide for
the day boarded our coach and gave interesting commentary on the history of the area. We
had an excellent lunch at Morgans Seafood restaurant and called in to a museum located in
an old church. Our tour guide remained with us all day and was ready to answer any
questions we had.
The James Blundell Concert and Open day kicked of the month of May and many members of
the committee worked throughout the day, alongside volunteer residents supplying food and
refreshments to the large number of people attending. A very good, but tiring day was
enjoyed by all!
The attendance at weekly Bingo remains poor and a decision has to be made about
continuing, especially during the winter months. Happy hour on Friday provides a great
meeting place for old hands and newcomers alike as we supply nibbles, sometimes a special
nibble night when we have a sausage sizzle for all to enjoy and our Pot Luck Meal each
month is well attended.
A recent Karaoke night at Grand Summer House was a great success
with lots of talent on show. The month of July sees a Fashion
Parade featuring “Fashion Is” with our own resort models.
Many activities in the resort are available for you. Check the
notice boards in both club houses frequently to see what
interests you and join in.
