IT’S HERE! IT’S HERE! IT’S HERE!
Beautiful sunny days, flowers springing into action
and Mother’s Day. The special day to let mom know she
is appreciated and loved: African Baskets, Rosey Ring
Candles, Wheelhouse Socks, Woodstock Chimes...there is
no better way then a gift card from THE FLOWER BIN. Let
her stroll through and pick the beautiful flowers that she
wants in her garden. Tools, gloves and hats are fully
stocked too if she would prefer these. There are so many
wonderful things here to help make mom feel special.

DARE TO BE DIFFERENT
Are you the kind of person who thinks outside the box? Do you
want to grow something that will make the neighbors stop and ask
“what is that?” If you are a brave and adventurous gardener, we have
just the plants for you!
First, let us introduce you to “Ketchup and Fries”! Take a cherry
tomato plant, and graft it onto a potato root stock (yes, we said a tomato
and a potato!) and you have Ketchup and Fries! This isn't a genetically
modified organism but a plant of two different nightshades: the top of a
cherry tomato grafted onto a white potato.
Above ground, expect up to 500 red cherry tomatoes; below
ground, up to 4.5 lbs of yummy potatoes can be had. Great in a large
container or direct planted in the ground.
Second – try new Kalette Autumn Star. This is a brand-new vegetable which looks a little like a tiny cabbage with green frilly leaves and streaks of purple. Kalettes
get their great taste by combining the best flavors from
brussels sprouts and kale, resulting in a fresh fusion of sweet and nutty.
Grow it like you would a normal brussel sprout and when it is mature,
it can be sautéed, roasted, grilled or eaten raw.
Finally – If you are a brave soul, try growing one of our Super Hot
Peppers! We carry three of the hottest peppers in the world, including
the Guiness Book of World Records Champion Carolina Reaper, which
can heat up to a whopping 2,200,000 scovilles! (trust us…that’s
HOT!!!)
Happy gardening!

Happy Mother’s Day!
At the time of this writing, it’s snowing….!! Fingers
crossed, we wait for some of that “spring astonishment!!” Want
to dump the coats, gloves, and hats, kick off our shoes and play
in the dirt! Finally!!
You’ve been able to plant perennials, roses and shrubs
for quite a while now; our hardened-off selection has been
building weekly: locally grown old standards, new introductions, the well-trialed Plant Select program, cactus, natives, and
xeric plants: too many new items to list here. Come in for a visit! Each week will be different!!
Plants are a gift that gives back all season long and for
years to come. We can be your planning tool for a continuously
blooming garden. See what we have blooming each week!
How is Mom’s garden? Clean-up first: this rough winter and
that November frost really did kill! The plants were so not
ready for it! Prune out the dead; continue to water, more and
more frequently, and start fertilizing as you see new growth.
Our staff can answer all of your questions, make you successful,
and help your garden bloom.

DESCISIONS… DESCISIONS…
With over 100 herbs to choose from sometimes it is hard to decide! I’d like to share with you
which herbs are my ultimate favorites.
First of all Lemon Verbena,
this flavorful and aromatic herb has
many culinary uses and is wonderful
for tea, it even has medicinal uses as
well.
Second, Pineapple Sage, the leaves
smell and taste like pineapple!
This is another wonderful multiuse herb great for culinary use,
tea, medicinal and potpourri.
The flowers are gorgeous and
attract hummingbirds and butterflies! Try adding
finely chopped Lemon Verbena or Pineapple sage to
a fruit salad for amazing flavor.
Third, Basil! The botanical name for Basil is basilicum
which means ‘royal or king-like’
and it definitely is king of herbs
around here! We have 14 different varieties of Basil! I love all
of them but my favorite is
Greek Basil. It has very small
leaves that are extremely flavorful. The plant stays
compact making it a great container variety.
Last I love Kentucky Colonel Mint, an improved form of
Spearmint. It is highly aromatic
and delicious for tea. Plant it in
a container unless you want it
to take over! Allowing mint to
bloom makes the leaves taste
bitter so I suggest planting two
containers, one for you and one for the butterflies!
Which herbs are your ultimate favorites?
Come take a stroll through the herbs and find a new
favorite today!
