For every 4 shifts you folks work your name will go into a draw for additional prizes. The Kinsmen Club of Calgary and the Stampede Lotteries have donated many 1,000s of dollars to these projects in your community. Page 2 K I N S ME N WH E E LS 2 012 W W W .K I N S ME N CL UB O F CAL GAR Y .CO M Page 11 Cerebral Palsy .Cerebral Palsy History The Calgary Cerebral Palsy Association - Light up a Childs’s Life was formed in 1952 by a group of parents looking for a better future for their children affected by Cerebral Palsy. KCC and Cerebral Palsy Over 29 years ago, the Kinsmen Club of Calgary began sponsoring our annual Christmas Party. Since that time, our Christmas Party has over 300 people attending, and the Kinsmen are still supporting this event. For the previous years the Calgary Cerebral Palsy Association has held an adaptive bike clinic. They provide bikes to their members who are unable to ride a typical bike. Sometimes this means Saturday July 14th supplying a bike trailer so the individual may participate in family outings or just a set of balance wheels to offer more stability while riding out in the community. These bikes can also be adapted so that even a severely physically disabled child can ride.. They are extremely grateful to the Kinsmen Club of Calgary for provided $15,000.00 to fund adaptive bikes for kids affected by Cerebral Palsy. In 2012 The Kinsmen Club of Calgary donated 5,000.00 for there funding request program. Cheque Presentation On this day July 14th a cheque presentation will take place at the main Wheels tent at 2:30pm. Direct the buyers of the Wheels lottery tickets to come and see fore themselves where the money goes from this lottery. Page 10 Mile of Dimes History In 1941, at a National Convention, the Kinsmen passed the “Milk for Britain” fund resolution. The goal was to provide enough powdered milk for British children in bombed-out areas of Britain. By Sunday July 17th nette – Adopt a Family, Hull Homes youth parties and projects, Easter Seals Camp Horizon winter and spring work projects, Great Strides Walk for Cystic Fibrosis, Calgary Interfaith Food Band drives, Camp Enviros construction projects, Ronald Macdonald House, build a bear, Kids Cancer Ride and many, many more. Through community projects the Kinsmen Club of Calgary has put thousands of dollars and manpower hours into your community in 2011/2012. Watch for the Kinsmen Club of Calgary’s red shirts in your community. Cheque Presentation Direct your buyers of the Wheels tickets to see for themselves where the money goes by telling them a cheque presentation will be made today July 15th at 2:30pm at the Wheels main tent. 1942, the Kinsmen Club of Calgary made it their goal to raise $0.10 per Calgarian and entered a Milk Wagon in the Calgary Stampede Parade. Spectators were encouraged to throw dimes into the wagon. That first Mile of Dimes raised $1,600.00 with all proceeds going to Milk for Britain. By the end of the war Calgarians had donated $100,000.00 through the Calgary Club ($300,000.00 was raised nationally.) This translated Friday July 6th lion for C.F. over the past 49 years. In 2011/2012 Calgarians donated over $10,000 in change to this worthy cause. Cheque Presentation A cheque presentation will be made on this day, Friday July 6th at the main tent to Cystic Fibrosis Calgary at 2:30pm. Please tell ticket buyers to visit the main tent to see for themselves where their money goes from buying the Wheels lottery tickets. www.kinsmenclubofcalgary.com The Kinsmen Club of Calgary The Calgary club decided to direct the Mile of Dimes towards this fight. The Mile of Dimes has become a Calgary tradition and each year, through the generosity of our citizens and visitors, between $5,000.00-$10,000.00 is raised along the parade route. Kinsmen, Kinette and Kin Clubs across Canada have raised more than $32 mil- Selling Tips HAVE FUN! Always Dress Western Study the sell sheets on the counter.. Know the value, the cost of the tickets and some details. The actual prizes are always in the main tent area. Eye contact is important Be friendly and smile, smile, smile! You will have more fun interacting with people. Remember customers who buy tickets are not only getting a chance to win a great vehicle but are helping their community. Please read about them in this book and talk about it. Keep moving around in the booth and maintain a lively interaction with the customers as the walk by. Lend a hand if a partner is having difficulty . After the war The Mile of Dimes continued and funds were directed towards the Children’s Hospital, the T.B. Association and other organizations in the community. In 1963 Kinsmen across Canada begin to unite in the fight to cure Cystic Fibrosis. What is C.F. C.F. is a disease that affects hundreds of thousands of people around the world. It is a disease that can affect the whole body. A person with CF has to under go daily treatments to fight this disease for the rest of their lives. The Kinsmen motto is ‘Serving the Community’s Greatest Need’. Here are just a few of the many groups that the Kinsmen Club of Calgary have donated their time and funds from the Kinsmen Wheels Lottery: Alberta Children’s Hospital Halloween, Christmas and Canada Day parties for the kids, Ki- Cystic Fibrosis and The Mile of Dimes If 2 people who know one another each wish to buy 20 tickets for $20.00, you may want to suggest that they combine their money and buy 100 tickets for $50.00. This way they are getting 50 tickets for $25.00 each instead of 20 tickets for $20.00. If you see that buyers are going to buy $20.00 worth of tickets on all the vehicles, be sure to tell them about the Rainbow package. For a $100.00, they can buy sheets of tickets for all the vehicles at one time and it saves them $20.00. them. Cross sell: Make sure to mention The Dream Home after they have bought our tickets. Have Fun While your selling Local Albertan’s who bought tickets on all of the lotteries by phone or on-line prior to the start of the Stampede may ask if their purchase included all of the Wheels vehicles. The answer is no. Their purchase included a chance to win the truck and fifth wheel, the truck and toys and the boat and wheels only. Advise buyers not to fold sheets of tickets. The tickets will go through the printer easier. Direct the buyers to the closest printer booth and show them where the nearest drop box is for tickets. Page 3 Easter Seals Camp Horizon Easter Seals History Easter Seals Camp Horizon was established by the Kinsmen Club of Calgary in 1965 out of a need to establish a permanent residential camp facility in southern Alberta for children and adults with special needs. Located on 66 acres in Kananaskis Country with excellent access and beautiful views of the Elbow River and the Rocky Mountains. Through the support of the Kinsmen, Easter Seals Camp Horizon has grown from a summer camp to a year-round full-service facility. Since inception, the Kinsmen Club of Calgary has remained one of Easter Seals Camp Horizon’s most prominent and valued supporters. Together they have witnessed over 100,000 Albertans of all abilities overcome their physical barriers through specialized outdoor recreation. KCC and Camp Horizon The Kinsmen Club of Calgary has Saturday July 7th provided funds for capital projects and countless hours towards camp improvements and repairs. The Kinsmen and Kinette members continue their support through Kinsmen Wheels main tent. The Kinsmen Club of Calgary has donated an estimated 2 to 3 million dollars in cash, services and labour to Easter Seals Camp Horizon over 46 years. Cheque Presentation A cheque presentation will be made on this day July 7th at 2:30pm at the CUPS– Health and Education Centres– Calgary, Sunday July 8th A cheque presentation will take place at 2:30pm on this day July 8th at the main Wheels tent. Please direct the buyers of the Wheels lottery tickets to go there to witness for themselves where the money goes when they buy the Wheels lottery tickets. Since this time, Enviros has grown into an organization that supports over 1,000 children, youth and families every year. The Kinsmen also come out to Base Camp yearly and help with the projects. The Kinsmen have CUPS helps individuals, families and communities thrive. Thursday July 12th Rotary and Lion’s clubs of Calgary. The Food Bank drive takes place outside the main Christmas For more information on the food bank please visit: www.calgaryfoodbank.com fundraising season in order to raise awareness that Food Bank clients need help throughout the year. The Food Bank drive also coincides with Kinsmen and Kinettes Week, marking 89 years of our clubs throughout Canada.Due to the success of our fourth annual Food Bank drive, over 150 families in Calgary will receive food for a week. Enviros Wilderness School Association Friday July 13th Cheque Presentation The Kinsmen Club of Calgary is proud to support this organization this year. We are donating $35,000.00 towards the purchase of a mini bus. For more information on CUPS please visit their website. TaKIN' Your Food to the Bank The Kinsmen Club of Calgary teamed up with Brinks and Safeway at Westhills and Shawnessy to make this event happen. On one Saturday in February 2012, we encouraged Safeway customers to buy food packs with the objective of filling the trucks that were parked outside the stores. Together with the guys from Brinks, we collected food items and cash valued at $18,000.00, thanks to the generosity of Calgarians that made this happen. Enviros History with KCC For over 36 years, the Kinsmen Club of Calgary have been a major supporter of Enviros Wilderness School Association. We began our partnership in 1976 when Kinsmen donated funds that were instrumental in the building of our cornerstone program “Base Camp”. KCC and CUPS CUPS is a non profit organization dedicated to helping individuals and families overcome poverty. Their programs focus on health care and education to address the root causes of poverty and achieve lasting solutions. Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank also donated funds that have helped Enviros to purchase and maintain their fleet of vehicles resulting in programs being able to work with children, youth and families both within the city and in the wilderness. Over the last 36 years this has equalled over $500,000 in donations. KCC’s donations Past years the Kinsmen Club of Calgary donated $40,000.00 towards a Challenge Ropes Course. This year $52,000.00 was donated to help purchase a wood burning boiler, a diesel generator container and a solar panel. Cheque Presentation Hull Child and Family Services Hull History with Kin The Kinsmen, were the first to help Hull Child and family services and now 24 years later we continue to help the needy, atrisk kids at Hull. In the earlier days through Kingo Bingo, we funded the library, providing books, encyclopedias, specialized reading materials for illiterate teens, as well as furniture, shelves and AV equipment. Through the Kinsmen Wheels we have been able to provide several Hull vans to transport their children to home visits, medical appointments, shopping, recreation and camp trips. This Year’s Donation This year the Kinsmen Club of Calgary contributed $25,000.00 towards renovations at their Cottage kitchen. Please direct your ticket buyers Calgary Learning Centre to see for themselves where the money goes. www.hullservices.ca Youth with low literacy skills face serious challenges coping with the daily demands of living – frequent negative outcomes include dropping out of school and coming into conflict with the law. Kinsmen Club of Calgary and the Stampede Lotteries have been instrumental in assisting these youth by supporting the work of the Calgary Learning Centre. www.calgarylearningcentre.com KCC and CLC Kinsmen have been great advocates of literacy and learning and have made a positive difference in the lives of children, youth and their families over the past 36 years as founding and continuing partners of the Centre. The Centre brings hope and an improved quality of life by addressing learning, literacy and attention difficulties of children and youth. Learning changes everything! Kinsmen have donated over $500,000 dollars to support the work of the Calgary Learning Centre since 1979. This year $7,500.00 was donated for Smart Technologies for Youth-at-Risk Workshops. SECURITY Keep your float and ticket proceeds separate from your own personal money Never leave tickets books unattended Extra books of tickets should be stored in the cabinets under the booth. If you feel unsafe at any time please radio in and we K I N S ME N WH E E LS 2 012 Services for youth at risk with low literacy include assessment, strategy tutoring, assistive technology training, self-advocacy coaching, etc. to help them stay in school, to increase their success in school or at the workplace, and to minimize future involvement with the law. Monday July 9th will send someone out right away. When returning from a shift, make sure you are not walking alone. RADIOS Use your radio for the following: Low on Tickets. Call in say your pouch number, your location and what kind of tickets you need (20 for20). Try to call in before you are completely out.
