This program also gives us a third destination in El Salvador, the amazing Suchitoto. 3730 Antes 3900 GALERÍA DE IMÁGENES DESCRIPCIÓN Central America is a land of contrasts, where each destination dazzles us with attractive and unique stories; their range of options and short distances, impress all visitors. Our journey through this land of diversity in Honduras begins with two nights in the Copan Ruins, famous for its Hieroglyph Stairway with over 2,500 glyphs and masterfully carved stelae. We continue to Santa Rosa de Copan, a picturesque city that we love, which was established back in the colonial era. We continue this experience in Suchitoto (El Salvador), passing through villages that will enchant us with their charm and the chance to visit Cihuatan whose artistic reconstruction shows a city surrounded by walls, with a pyramid, several plazas and smaller structures. We will visit other archaeological jewels, where we find one of the most interesting attractions, the stone sculpture of a Nahua god. At the end of our visit to El Salvador, we cross the border and arrive in Choluteca, the largest city in southwestern Honduras, rich in history and architecture. Finally, the journey takes us to Nicaragua to discover two of the best preserved and most important colonial cities in Central America, Leon and Granada, with their buildings and streets that take us back to another era. ITINERARY DAY 1: SAN PEDRO SULA - COPAN RUINS (HONDURAS) Our representative meets us in the lobby of the hotel in San Pedro Sula. We take a short walk around the city and visit the Guamilito market before traveling to Copan Ruins. During this journey of about three hours we can see the beautiful countryside of Honduras and get firsthand information about the Mayans and current excavations at Copan Ruins. We enjoy a free afternoon to explore and discover this picturesque town. Two nights? accommodation at Copan Ruins. DAY 2: COPAN RUINS After breakfast we visit the legendary Archaeological Park of Copán, which has two main sites: the Acropolis and the Graves. In t he ruins we can see the impressive Hieroglyphic Stairway with over 2,500 glyphs and masterfully carved stelae. We enjoy the ruins surrounded by giant shady trees. DAY 3: COPAN RUINS - SANTA ROSA DE COPAN In the morning we will go to Santa Rosa de Copan, the largest city in western Honduras. The center of the charming town, with its cobblestone streets and picturesque buildings, dates back to colonial times. In the afternoon we will take a short walk around the city and visit the Flor de Copan tobacco factory. Santa Rosa will be our home with one night. DAY 4: SANTA ROSA DE COPAN - LA PALMA - CIHUATAN - SUCHITOTO (EL SALVADOR) After breakfast we will cross the border into El Salvador. Our first stop is the charming village of La Palma. In the afternoon we will continue to Suchitoto. In route we will stop by the relatively unknown archaeological site of Cihuatan. An artist's reconstruction of the site shows a city surrounded by walls, with a pyramid, several plazas and smaller structures. It is one of the few resort areas whose soccer field has been almost completely rebuilt, after the civil war. We will stay two nights in Suchitoto. DAY 5: SUCHITOTO - JOYA DE CEREN - TAZUMAL - SUCHITOTO On day 5 we will visit the Joya de Ceren archaeological site and then continue to the Mayan ruins of Tazumal. These ruins are considered the most important and best preserved in the country. One of the most interesting attractions of this site is the stone sculpture of a Nahua god. DAY 6: SAN SALVADOR - CHOLUTECA (HONDURAS) In the morning, we will take a short walk around the vibrant city of San Salvador, visiting the National Palace and other important monuments. Afterwards we prepare to leave for Honduras. Choluteca is the most important city in southwestern Honduras, rich in history and architecture. One of its outstanding monuments is the Cathedral dating from the seventeenth century. Choluteca welcomes us with lodging for one night. DAY 7: CHOLUTECA - LEON (NICARAGUA) In the morning we continue along the Panamerican highway to León in Nicaragua. After Granada, which is better preserved, León ha s the best colonial architecture in Nicaragua. One of the highlights of the ancient capital of Nicaragua is the Cathedral, which is the largest cathedral in Central America. We stay one night in the old capital, León. DAY 8: LEON - GRANADA In the morning we will visit the ruins of León Viejo, which form part of the UNESCO Cultural Heritage, and are located outside t he new city center, on the edge of Managua Lake. Then we continue towards Granada. Along the way, we will take a brief city tour in Managua, capital of Nicaragua. We will arrive in Granada at the end of the afternoon, traveling through scenic landscapes along Lake Managua and observing the Momotombo y Momotombito Volcanoes. We spend two nights in Granada. DAY 9: GRANADA - CITY TOUR AND MASAYA VOLCANO During our walk through the historic center, we find colonial houses and buildings such as the Convento de San Francisco or the Guadalupe Church. In the afternoon we will visit the Masaya Volcano, a spectacle of nature. From the vantage point of the lookout at the visitor's center, we will observe Santiago crater and its activity. If weather permits, from there you can see the Apoyo Lagoon, Lake Nicaragua and the city of Granada. DAY 10: GRANADA - MANAGUA Transfer to the airport in Managua in time for your international flight back home. This is either the end of the program or we can extend the stay with another of our itineraries. OBSERVATIONS Optional Transfer back to Tegucigalpa or San Pedro Sula in Honduras (transfer NOT included). You can book this tour in the opposite direction at no additional cost. You can also lengthen or shorten the tour or propose changes to the itinerary. It has coasts in the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea. GASTRONOMY AND WEATHER Honduras The traditional Honduran cuisine is heavily dominated by seafood and corn, which is a typical crop and is part of the food base of the pre-Hispanic Mesoamerican peoples inhabiting the region. The traditional food of Honduras is based on meat, poultry and fish, tortillas, beans, rice, dairy products like cheese and local butters, vegetables or legumes, and fruits. The coffee as an aromatic drink cannot be missed throughout the country, whether to accompany breakfast or dinner, or any other time during the day. Honduras is located in a tropical position 15-16 degrees north of Ecuador, and only has two seasons, which are well defined: the dry season and the rainy season. El Salvador The traditional food of El Salvador is characterized by being based on corn; customs and traditions of their ancestors in the kitchen had corn as the main ingredient, accompanied by beans that make Salvadoran dishes very special meals to taste. The climate in El Salvador is characterized for being mainly warm, with rainy season between May and October. Nicaragua The base of Nicaraguan food has been, since its origins, has been corn, with varied possibilities of use and preparation which constitute the culinary heritage of the ancient indians cultures, native to the área. This explains the relation between the Nicaraguan f ood and the food of the rest of countries in the Central America region. The climate in Nicaragua has particular characteristics in three clearly differentiated zones, which are the Pacific lowlands, the central highlands and the Caribbean lowlands. Between the lakes and the Pacific, it is dry with few rains and temperatures between 27°c and 32°c during the rainy season that runs from May to October. For the dry season or summer that runs from November and Ap ril theaverage is 30°c to 35°c. Towards the center of the country, the heights of the mountain elevations facilitate enjoying cooler we ather that turns more humid towards the east.
