PRESSURE
Sound is air in motion and consists
of pressure variations that the
human ear can detect. It is a form of
overpressure. Sound pressure can
vary from barely audible to (in the
case of explosives) lethal pressures.
Because of the wide range and
unwieldy numbers, sound levels
are expressed as a logarithmic ratio
(decibels) of the measured pressure
to the threshold of human hearing
(defined as 0 decibels or dB).

Firearm sounds are short-duration
pulses produced by a sudden
release of extremely high pressure
gases suddenly exiting a barrel at
the instant of bullet uncorking. The
sound produced varies with cartridge,
powder charge, caliber, and barrel
length from approximately 140 dB
(.22 rifle) to over 166 dB (centerfire
rifles). As barrels shorten, the
pressure at uncorking increases
dramatically. Firearm sound levels
over 140 dB will damage hearing.

The purpose of a sound suppressor
(often called a silencer) is to reduce
the high pressures and sound levels
before the gases have a chance
to escape to the atmosphere. This
consists of a chamber which reduces
pressure by increasing volume and
decreasing temperature before exit

reduces the damaging peak by
delaying gas exit through baffles
and turbulence.
There is a lot more to designing
a sound suppressor than stuffing
washers into a pipe or jockeying
a flow simulation program.
Knowledge of design comes
from years of trial, error, and
experience. Gemtech designers
each have multiple decades of
design experience. Gemtech
believes that the most important
aspect of suppressor design is
to provide products that are first
hearing safe and structurally
sound and secondly as compact
and lightweight as consistent
with the first priority. To achieve
these goals a myriad of designs
are prototyped and tested. Sound
signatures are recorded with tools
that meet the requirements of MILSTD-1474D, and all suppressors
have been tested for structural
integrity by measuring internal
peak pressures and material
strengths at elevated temperatures.
Gemtech uses only the strongest
alloys of titanium, inconel,
aluminum, and stainless steel.
Material choice will vary with the
intended caliber, duty cycle, host
weapon, and barrel length. Then
and only then, are the designs
submitted for production.

HUNTER
Gemtech’s new Tracker is the first suppressor made
specifically with the hunter in mind. At 11 ounces
it doesn’t add bulk to the already weight conscious
hunter and only adds a little over 7 inches to the
overall length of the rifle once threaded on the barrel.
You can still stalk your prey without getting hung up
on the brush and low hanging trees. The Tracker
is suitable for most major hunting calibers and is
adaptable to most rifles. Hunting with the Tracker
offers hearing protection, improved accuracy, faster

The GEMTECH Suppressed Bolt Carrier (SBC) is revolutionary. It will increase the reliability of any suppressed ARplatform firearm. This adjustable bolt carrier is a drop-in replacement, available in 5.56 for AR-15 and DPMS/SR-25
pattern for 7.62 rifles. It will allow the shooter to choose between suppressed and unsuppressed settings without

The ONE is titanium built with extra heavy duty inconel
blast insert and was designed to withstand the abuse of the
SOCOM test. The ONE can be used on short barreled 5.56 or

GEMTECH DEPLOYMENT CASE (GDC)
The GEMTECH Deployment Case (GDC) is designed for
U.S. military units to have a standardized accountable
way to issue suppressors to their in-country indigenous
forces. The kit assists an operator with accountability
and maintenance during deployments, while at the same
time outfitting the recipient with M16/M4 compatible
GMT-HALO suppressors. The kits can be modified to
support a handful of suppressors up to a platoon sized
unit (up to 30 suppressors per case). The GDC is also
ideal for Law Enforcement to maintain accountability
and maintenance for their issued suppressors.

Putting together a heavier bullet, a cleaner powder, and
a premium lube on the lead round nose projectile gave
us consistent velocities and harder hitting performance at
subsonic speed. Harder hitting and “.22 LR” are not usually
associated together. The 42 grain lead round nose bullet is
heavier than traditionally available rounds and has a great
stable trajectory. Steel silhouette shooters will appreciate
a knockdown vs. a wobbling target that stays up!
