Artists in
Residence
No. 3 - September to December 2016
Ciarán MacAoidh
Ciarán MacAoidh is the new artist in residence at the Dock. After training
and working as a traditional blacksmith for some time he moved into sound
art and field recording in 2011, inspired both by a series of recordings that
he made while visiting the Kurdish region of Iraq and by another Leitrim
field recordist. He occasionally works in visual arts, making installations in
abandoned buildings and working in film.
Originally from Dublin, Ciarán has been living and working near Carrick on
Shannon for the past six years and he regularly returns to Dublin to present
an experimental music programme on NearFM called The Crooked Button
Radio Show. Ciarán has become increasingly interested in telling stories
through sound and especially through audio documentary. His field
recordings have been used by a number of artists in their own sound art
and music and currently his Kurdistan recordings are being used in work
by American artist Saeed Shabaz. Ciarán’s plans for his time at The Dock
include blending pure field recordings of human activity with elements of
documentary to tell short stories about people’s lives.
Sorcha Fox
Writer, actor and producer Sorcha
Fox will continue as an artist in
residence at The Dock. Sorcha is
working on a writing project and
will provide one on one mentoring
workshops for actors and writers.
Born in Dublin she lives and works near Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim,
Sorcha is co-director, with Donal O’Kelly, of Benbo Productions. She
directed Donal O’Kelly’s new one man show; Fionnuala – a play about the
Shell Corrib Gas Project which won a Fringe First in Edinburgh in 2013
and was nominated for the Amnesty Freedom of Expression Award. In
2014 Sorcha played the part of Molly in Ken Loach’s film – Jimmy’s Hall.
She studied Drama and Theatre studies at the Samuel Beckett Centre in
Trinity College Dublin.
Orla Murphy
Writer and Director Orla Murphy
will begin a residency with us in
September. Orla is experienced
in all aspects of theatre, film
and radio production with
a strong focus on original
project development. She is
currently directing/producing
“Remember to Breathe” for Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2016 and National
Tour September 2016. She was shortlisted for the Fishamble Best New
Play Award Tiger Dublin Fringe 2015 and BBC International Playwriting

Foreign Languages, Sigbjorn Bratlie
Artist in Residence, LSC 2016
18 NOVEMBER - 3 DECEMBER
A key ingredient of Bratlie’s work is what he calls ‘the artist as anti-hero’ ie, – the artist who
desperately tries to create profound, deep-felt and groundbreaking work, but who usually
fails miserably. This strategy accounts for a lot of the humour in his work, a strategy that
allows the artist to see serious matters from an unexpected angle.
For the LSC show Bratlie, from Norway, proposes to use Irish in a number of recorded
performance encounters in North Leitrim involving local students, learners of Irish or other
community groups.
